As the party wakes from their rest in the kobold barracks, Induris reports that no creature approached their area in the night, though he did hear movement from elsewhere in the cave. They proceed back to the dragon shrine and the rogue attempts to disarm a trap on the chest. He gets the chest open, but triggers the trap in the process which fills the cavern with acid mist. Fortunately everyone thinks quickly and moves out into the next room before breathing in too much of the mist. This room is the dragon hatchery, where they discover two dragon eggs protected by two guard drakes. Hidden in the corner are some kobold guards as well, who throw glue and fire bombs. The monk and cleric are stuck, but Bron charges to engage the kobolds and prevents further bomb attacks. Meanwhile, the others take down the guard drakes, sustaining no major injuries. The party also discovers a strange rock-like creature in the corner of the cave, but manage to convince it to leave by telling it where it can find the meat larder. Varcus realizes that these are black dragon eggs, and though it takes some convincing to bring Bron around, the party decides the best course of action is to destroy them. They bring eggshell fragments with them as proof. On the way back through the shrine, the monk retrieves several valuables from the chest. Back in the entrance room, the rogue carefully investigates the hidden passage which had not yet been explored. There are several rooms but no inhabitants behind the passage: an empty storage room (probably had the loot), a guard barracks, and a comfortable-looking living chamber. All are deserted, but in the final room they find some papers left behind. These include a map of the surrounding area showing past town raids, and a note about the loot indicating that it is being moved north on Rezmir's orders, to someplace called Naerytar. As the party leaves the cave to return to Greenest, they notice that fresh tracks lead away from the cave. Someone may have left while they were resting, but their skill is insufficient to glean any more detail. They are received gladly by Leosin and Governor Nighthill in Greenest, and are able to rest for a night before Chelnadatilar arrives. The dragon prince arrives in the morning and hears the reports. He is very happy to hear that the black dragon eggs were destroyed, and is grateful for the information about cult activities that the party has obtained. He provides the rewards that were promised, and in addition grants a minor magic item to each party member. Leosin also asks for his help in tracking the monk's stolen items that are part of the cultist loot, and Chelnadatilar obliges. The loot has moved all the way to Waterdeep on the Sword Coast, which must have been accomplished in such a short time through magical means. The dragon prince does the same for the party, providing a portal leading to Waterdeep. The paladin Ontharr Thume receives them gladly in Waterdeep, on Chelnadatilar's recommendation. He also knows Leosin, since both Leosin's Harpers and Thume's Order of the Gauntlet have been concerned about Cult of the Dragon activities. Both organizations are willing to help anyone that is against the cult. Leosin also tracks the loot further to a warehouse in the north part of Waterdeep. After a day to rest, shop, and otherwise take care of business in Waterdeep, the group heads to the warehouse. They find that it stores building supplies for the repair of the road to Neverwinter, and a supply caravan is leaving shortly to head north to the Carnath Roadhouse. The three cultist wagons are here as well, with a dozen or so cult members as escort, and will be traveling with the supply caravan. The party hires on as guards to travel with the caravan, keeping an eye on the cultists along the way. A few nights into the journey, the party meets Jamna Quicksilver, a gnome rogue who introduces herself by thwarting a cultist plot to poison the party's breakfast. Later she asks them for help in investigating the cultist wagons, which they do, but are unable to learn anything more than that the wagons contain looted valuables. Shortly thereafter the caravan spots the Mere of Dead Men in the distance, a wide and dangerous swampy area. Their destination lies on the edge. On the eighth night, while on guard outside the camp, Bron, Induris, and the monk are attacked by Lolth cultists and giant spiders. The cultists scream about enemies of Lolth as they attack, single-mindedly coming for Induris. The attackers are defeated, though they do injure Induris enough that the cleric must heal him. The rest of the caravan is surprised to see such enemies here, and Induris has to explain that he may have made some enemies of followers of Lolth.
