Ch. 19: The Party Returns to Phandalin with Sildar, Learn of More Things Going On, Then Head to Conyberry

Opening Scene: Day 12: May 11 th ; 6:00 am: The party had a restful night sleep, along with the fighter, Sildar Hallwinter, whom they rescue from being captive by the Cragmaw goblin tribe. Sildar had went about Phandalin, telling local friends, that he is safe but that Gundren Rockseeker, was taken elsewhere by the goblins, along with their gear and a map. The townsfolks tells Sildar it’s been about 7 weeks, since they have seen Gundren’s brothers, Tharden and Nundro. Some of the townsfolks join Sildar and the party at the Stonehill tavern, for some breakfast. Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Morning folks, hope your all having a good day" Linene Graywind the Coster Boss Says: "Cool to hear that you folks rescued Sildar! He tells me there were crates and supplies with the Lionshield Coster blue lion emblem on them there. is that so?" Willie the Elf Ranger Says: "i am having a great day" Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "I believe so, yes, not familiar with that emblem" Dungeon Master (GM): [You saw the Blue Lion emblem on the crates in the goblin cave] That's where you saw the supplies, where i just pinged on the map of the Cragmaw goblin cave. Linene Graywind the Coster Boss Says: "I work at the Lionshield Coster, I run the place." Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "I saw lots of supplies there, need to get them back to where they belong" Linene Graywind the Coster Boss Says: "If you need to buy armor and weapons, i have some." Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "I might be interested in something better" {I assume I can wear something better] Linene Graywind the Coster Boss Says: "Perhaps, as i have every kind of armor and weapon, you could imagine." Daran Edermath the Orchard Owner Says: "Nice that that goblin cave was found, would be interesting to find out what tribe they were from. Anyways, now we have Orcs to the east of Phandalin and at least out to Connyberry, pestering that village and people traveling along the Triboar Trail." Says: "The miners from here and Connyberry tell me tales of someone digging around the old ruins of Old Owl Well, somewhere south of Connyberry. Several prospectors reported being chased away by undead zombies. It would be good to know who is there and what they are up to." Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Got some studded leather? or some other light armor? dont want the heavy stuff" Linene Graywind the Coster Boss Says: "Yes, i have studded leather, for you." Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Could ya tell me more about this old owl well?" Daran Edermath the Orchard Owner Says: "Old Owl Well, is an old watchtower of an ancient magical empire known as Netheril, and I do worry that dangerous magic might be dormant there.” Halia Thornton the Miner’s Exchange Boss Says: "It is so cool that you folks rid the town of the Redbrands, still if you find their leader whom you mentioned you've met, my offer of 100 gp for him dead or alive still stands." Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "If we find him, we'll remember your offer" Roqar: So is it off to Conyberry and Orcs or after this Old Owl Well and zombies? Qelline Alderleaf the Farmer Says: "I'm glad you all helped Reidoth in Thundertree. He knows the lands around here well, to bad he didn't come down with you from there, but I guess the green dragon you mentioned is why he stayed, otherwise he should know where old owl well is." Sildar Hallwinter the Fighter: Says: “Well, it is easy to get to Connyberry but of course you could try to bee-line to old owl well, without knowing exactly where it is yourselves.” Roqar: Maybe hit Conyberry find someone there that knows about the well Off to Conyberry Sister Garaele the Cleric Says: "I hope you folks still have the jeweled comb I gave you to give to Auglathla (Agatha), I do hope she knows about that spellbook." Keziah the Dwarf Cleric Says: "If you're going after those orcs, I'd like to join you. ", "They've been giving the locals no end of trouble." Sildar Hallwinter the Fighter Says: "Don't forget Harbin Wester, the town's master, is offering coin to deal with the orcs, along the trail. And keep an eye out for this dragon that has been reported flying around just east of here." Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Ya wanna come along with us? Welcome, we do dangerous but exciting things, come along for the ride of the life, bumps an all" Keziah the Dwarf Cleric gives a feral grin. Keziah the Dwarf Cleric Says: "Sounds like my kind of adventure!" Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "glad to know you kez" Sildar Hallwinter the Fighter Says: "I think I will come along with you folks, maybe we'll get some info on the where-abouts of Gundren Rockseeker's two brothers." Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Your welcome to come along, but it won’t be a safe trip, where ever we go, danger seems to follow" The party, along with Sildar, head out of Phandalin around 11:30 am. The trip takes two days so after 10 hours of travel (9:30 pm) they break off to the side of the Triboar trail to make camp. Nothing bothers them that night, as two members of the party watch over the camp every two hours. So they get a full rest and all spells either memorized or prayed for, for the day. About, 6 am, they continue back on the Triboar Trail, heading to the town of Connyberry, once an ancient village, that crumbled to ruins during the Orc wars and is now being resettled. They reach the town just before dark. Sildar Hallwinter the Fighter Says: "I think we can find room at the Fewmets Inn here in Connyberry, at least we can get a meal. Two twin brothers run the place." head there? Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Sure we can rest there find out any news" Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "A bottle of your best whiskey, whats the latest news here?" Bob Zeissin the InnKeeper Says: "Hello there! What can I get you? Need a room as well?" Buddy D.: i need a whiskey, and I would like ale
Bob Zeissin the InnKeeper Says: "alright, coming right up" Zath Zeissin the InnKeeper Says: "You folks come here to sight see the dragon flying around?" Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "We'll need rooms as well, here to clean up the area, got a problem with Orcs is what we heard" Bob Zeissin the InnKeeper Says: "Oh yea, those buggers, have been pestering the trail and the town, good thing we have like 140 watching over it." Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "The dragon as well, get rid of problems is what we do" Willie the Ranger: Says, “Barkeep here is one gold if you can tell me any good juicy gossip.” Zath Zeissin the InnKeeper Says: "Yea, and since that dragon came around, the orc attacks have increased along with way more orcs showing up." Roqar the Elf Rogue Takes a drink of whiskey, grimaces "Ah" Bob Zeissin the InnKeeper Says: "The Banshee Agatha, has been a great help, keeping them at bay." Roqar the Elf Rogue shudders at the word "Banshee" takes another drink of whiskey Zath Zeissin the InnKeeper Says: "We have reports that orcs have taken up residence at the old shrine of Savras, about 5 miles south of the town here." Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Which way to see Agatha? as much as I dont wanna go anything she can tell us would help" Bob Zeissin the InnKeeper Says: "Agatha, is a few miles north of here. Someone can guide you up there, otherwise she can get really nasty." Roqar: Go see Agatha or go right after Orcs? Buddy D.: either Zath Zeissin the InnKeeper Says: "We have not heard from the town's former sheriff for a tenday now, Alfonse Kalazorn, is his name, lives about 5 miles east of here. I sure hope the dragon doesn't have anything to do with it, since he does raise a farm these days." Roqar the Elf Rogue chuckles Thinks to herself Shes a Fing Banshee of course she can get nasty Bob Zeissin the InnKeeper Says: "Yea, a white dragon, would enjoy farm animals as morsels, i'm sure." [note the bartender did say she (Agatha) helps the town] Roqar: [ Noted but SHES still a Fing BANSHEE!! :D] Buddy D.: exactly Roqar: Agatha or go check on the Sheriff? Dungeon Master (GM): [you have 5 things you can do from the town now] Buddy D.: sheriff Roqar: Oh Yeah Should go see Agatha offer her the comb for the spellbook, then go after Orcs Shudder hehe Zath Zeissin the InnKeeper Says: "The miners think the orcs were actually at another location south of the town prior to the recent, uptick in attacks, it appears they were coming from the old Wyvern Tor mountain." At this point the party decides to go see the elven maiden banshee known to the locals as Agatha or Auglathla, which means winter breeze in elven, early the next morning. It is about 6 am on May 13 th , as they travel the north by northwest trail from Connyberry into the Neverwinter Woods, a lovely female voice can be heard singing the tune, “Early One Morning”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cG3Bd51ACLM Nothing disturbs them on the trip up, as they are guided along the trail by a local. Area Description: The forest grows dark and still as the trail winds deeper into the trees. Heavy vines and thick layers of moss drape the branches, and the air is noticeably colder than it was in the ruined village. You hear the sounds of a lovely female voice, singing off in the distance. Rounding a bend in the trail, you see a screen made from the warped branches of trees standing close together, woven into a domelike shelter in the shadows. A low doorway leads inside. Anyone want to crawl their way inside? Roqar the Elf Rogue Steps aside "After you all, I'll wait out here" Willie, is the first one to crawl through the opening and this is what is seen inside: A home of sorts is sheltered within the dome of woven branches. It is sparsely furnished with chests, shelves, a table, and a reclined couch, all of it old and of elven craft. Kaiser, Keziah and Ravoprax also enter the home. Moments later, the singing stops and: The air grows cold, and a powerful feeling of dread grips you. A cold, pale light flickers in the air, rapidly taking on the form of a female elf, her hair and robes waving in a spectral wind. She might have been beautiful once, but a hateful expression twists her features now. “Foolish mortals,” she snarls. “What do you want here? Do you not know it is death to seek me out?” Flint and Roqar, get ready to run away at a moments notice, while Keziah, rethinks her life choices. Ravoprax the Dragonborn Fighter Says: "We are here to fight the Orcs people have told us you have been helping them" Agatha (Auglathla) the Elven Banshee Says: "Yes, that is true." Says: "The Orcs where small in number at first and the raids infrequent, then after the white dragon appeared, they have increased in numbers and raids." Ravoprax the Dragonborn Fighter Says: "Can you tell us anything that may help us fight off the Orcs or anything about the dragon in the area?" Agatha (Auglathla) the Elven Banshee Says: "A group lead by a paladin knight, once visited here, with the same idea to help rid of the orcs." Says: "But I am afraid to report they have met a terrible fate." Ravoprax the Dragonborn Fighter Says: "So the dragon maybe the new leader of the Orcs" Agatha the Elven Banshee Says: "I had followed them in their search for where the orcs were staging the initial attacks." Ravoprax the Dragonborn Fighter Says: "What tragedy befell them?" Agatha (Auglathla) the Elven Banshee Says: " They found a cave base in the foot hills of Wyvern Tor, however, none made it out alive." Ravoprax the Dragonborn Fighter Says: "Hopefully, we wont suffer the same fate" Agatha (Auglathla) the Elven Banshee Says: "Do you wish to seek out their base at Wyvern Tor? The orcs now occupy the old Savran Shrine as well." Says: "There are many more at the old shrine, I believe." Ravoprax the Dragonborn Fighter Roqar crawls inside "We have an offering for you, in exchange for a spellbook that you may have" offers her the comb Agatha (Auglathla) the Elven Banshee Says: "Such a beautiful comb it is, thank you young maiden." Says: "what is the spell book you seek?"
Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Something for a Priestess I think" Dungeon Master (GM): [the legendary wizard's name is Bowgentle, of which you were told by Sister Garaele, whom gave you the jeweled comb to give to Agatha] Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "A book by a Wizard named Bowgentle?" Agatha (Auglathla) the Elven Banshee Says: "Ah, I see, I do not have that book anymore." Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Do you know who has it now?" Agatha (Auglathla) the Elven Banshee Says: "I have traded the book to a necromancer by the name of Tsernoth from the city of Iriabor, and this was more than 100 years ago, I am afraid. So thus, I know not what ever became of Bowgentle's spellbook." Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "So He maybe a Lich by now" Agatha (Auglathla) the Elven Banshee Says: "Perhaps" Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Keep the comb, Which way to this shrine?" Agatha (Auglathla) the Elven Banshee Says: "I can guide you to the Orcs, the shrine is just 5 miles south of here, while their Wyvern Tor home is 30 miles south east, about 15 miles south of the old owl well." At this point the party wants to go check on Connyberry’s retired Sheriff, Alfonse Kalazorn, and then seek out Old Owl Well and the Shrine of Savras. Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Do you know anything about the Sheriff?" Agatha (Auglathla) the Elven Banshee Says: "Big Al, retired as Sheriff about 10 years ago, and built a farm from his acquired wealth. The towns folks has not heard or seen him in a tenday and they grow worried." Keziah the Dwarf Cleric Says: "Is that unusual for him?" Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Lets go check on him, before the Orcs" Agatha (Auglathla) the Elven Banshee Says: "Yes, as he still frequents the town for supplies and gatherings and good walking exercise." Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Which way to his farm?" Willie the Ranger Says, “Does he disappear a lot?” Agatha (Auglathla) the Elven Banshee Says: "Well, not since his sheriff days, but this is recent and it's been awhile.", "Big Al's farm is just about 5 miles east just off the Triboar trail." Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Lets go check on the Sheriff" Keziah the Dwarf Cleric Says: "Thank you for all your help." The party leave’s Agatha’s place and head back to Connyberry, for breakfast, then head eastward along the Triboar trail, (a trip of about 7 miles on the map but the description says 60 miles!), when after a couple of miles they come upon 3 horses grazing to either side of the path. Keziah, with a good wisdom perception roll of 18, and needing 10 or more, spots a branding on a horse’s hindquarters, and says, “These aren’t wild horses, they’re loose.” Willie, tries to approach a horse but an animal handling roll of 8 and needing a 10 or more indicates the horse backs away from him, not letting him near. However, Keziah also tries, rolling a 10, so she was able to approach a horse and pet it, an noticed the brand spells out the letters ‘BAK’. Keziah the Dwarf Cleric Says: "We should try to return them to their owner.” Willie agrees but Roqar says, “May be too late for that, Lets keep going to the ranch and see what happened there.” Keziah the Dwarf Cleric Says: "I suppose you’re right. Maybe we can try and bring them with us.” Keziah notes the horses are not wearing halters or saddles. Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Leave for now, we can gather them up if they have a home still later.” Keziah the Dwarf Cleric Says : "Alright.” Onwards towards Big Al’s farm they go, when a couple more miles later they come upon two cows, a male and female grazing north of the path. Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "I have a feeling we’re not gonna like what we find.”, as she ignores the cattle. The bull has it’s eyes on the party as they walk by but does not charge them. Finally the party reaches the farmland and this is what they see: Butterskull Ranch occupies a large plot of land on the north side of the Triboar Trail, nestled between two hills. Beyond a ramshackle wooden fence stand corn fields, an apple orchard, gardens, and pasture land. A path breaks off from the trail to lead to a two-story farmhouse next to a pond. West of the farmhouse are the charred remains of a barn and smithy that have been burned to the ground. ok, see part of the map??? Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: Yep, there was trouble here.” Keziah the Dwarf Cleric Says: "We should look for survivors.” The party cautiously approaches the farmhouse that is still standing. They see pigs harmlessly wander the fields and orchard. Roqar rolls a successful perception check indicating she spots bodies swarming with flies, between the farmhouse and gutted barn. When approached Willie could tell they are five humans (appear to be young farmhands) and two orcs. Nothing of value is upon any of the bodies. Having a closer look at the farmhouse they see: The farmhouse is a two-story log building with a pitched, shingled roof and a stone chimney. Its wooden doors are set with iron handles and hinges. Its windows are fitted with wooden shutters that can be bolted shut from inside. All the shutters are open. There are 3 first floor windows visible from the front, as the party moves up the stairs to the front door. Willie, opens, the door into a kitchen area which holds a large butter churn, worktables, shelves of foodstuffs and ale, and hanging pots and pans. Atop a small table is a skull-shaped wooden butter mold. There are also two orcs in the kitchen whom see willie come running in and shout “Intruders!” out in the Orcish tongue. Adventure Time is now May 13 th , at 2:30 pm.
