The final two nights of travel with the caravan are uneventful, and the caravan leader pays the party 100 gold each for their service as guards. The destination is Carnath Roadhouse, a waypoint camp on the edge of the swampy Mere of Dead Men. The roadhouse is used to store construction supplies for the Neverwinter road. It's managed by the half-orc Bog Luck. He assigns everyone rooms and then oversees unloading the caravan wagons.  Varcus helps with the unloading, and in the process notices that the crates unloaded from the cultist wagons are put into a locked secure storage room by Bog Luck. Meanwhile, Bron finds Bog Luck's room, but chooses not to break in. Induris befriends a stableboy and takes his place temporarily, infiltrating the stables. And the monk finds the kitchen and buys drinks from the cook. The party chooses to lay low for the rest of the day, sneaking out of their room after night falls and activity in the roadhouse ceases. Induris opens the locked storage room, but finds that most of the cultist crates are gone. He reports this to the others, who take a look for themselves, and the monk notices that one of the crates hides a secret trapdoor leading to a tunnel. Shortly thereafter, a group of lizardfolk burst out of the trapdoor and attempt to take the rest of the cultist crates. They get most of them, but the party chases after and emerges from the tunnel in the nearby swamp. The majority of the lizardfolk party disappears into the swamp with the crates, but a rearguard engages the party. This is a short-lived encounter thanks to a mighty fireball from the wizard, which toasts not only most of the lizardfolk but also the giant frogs they brought along. But moving in the swamp is difficult and the main lizardfolk party is long gone. Still, the party is able to follow them along an apparently well-used trail, following various markings and signs. Near sunset, a campsite comes into view, followed immediately by attacks by swamp spiders, lizards, and a shambling mound. The mound eats the barbarian, but another fireball from the wizard and many deadly blows from the monk finish it quickly enough to avoid any lasting damage. The party sets up for the night at the camp, only to find that yet another group of lizardfolk is approaching in canoes from ahead. An ambush is set, another fireball is unleashed, and that threat is ended. The next day, the party sets out in canoes, since dry ground is in short supply. Around mid-morning they are surprised by a giant crocodile attack from under the water, which inflicts heavy damage and knocks the cleric out of the boat. He begins to sink rapidly, but fortunately the monk and wizard manage to kill one of the crocodiles. That distracts the others as they see easier meat available, particularly after the rogue and monk dive into the water and encourage them along with daggers. Meanwhile, Bron dives to retrieve the cleric, who has suffered no lasting damage (except to his pride). Around noon, a group of bullywugs ambush the canoes, but they quickly learn the error of their ways as four of their number are defeated in quick order. The rest turn tail and disappear into the swamp. Finally, around mid-afternoon, the destination comes into view - Castle Naerytar.
