List Other Games & Play, Experience New Games!

If feels like this community lacks diversity when it comes to the choic e of games. It is wonderful to see other games listed in the "LFG" corner than just the usual ones, such Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder. It would be a nice addition if there would be other games listed as well, discouragingly I must remind myself that some titles have never been heard of such as RuneQuest, Shadowrun, Deadlands, many, many more titles. This is merely a topic posted for discussion
Speaking as someone who runs both a GURPS and a FATE Core campaign here on Roll20 - the best way to get your favorite game represented on the site is to run it yourself. Interestingly enough, despite the prevalence of new school D&D posts in the LFG section, "only" about half of the active campaigns being run are new-school D&D. I've seen groups try to gel around both Shadowrun and Deadlands recently in the forums, although I'm not sure of their current states. What could be a good resource for other fans of smaller market games is the publisher's own forums (like The Design Mechanism in the case of RuneQuest) and relevant Google+ groups. Not every group running a successful campaign on Roll20 spawned from the LFG forums here. All that being said, it would warm my heart to see someone try to get a Pendragon game off the ground.
Personally I run NWoD and GURPS, that's it for now, with a newbie campaign for Pathfinder (since it was requested) I've also run MUA (not here mind you) and some other "never heard of" games. Worthy of metion though is that I never actually list my games publicly, they're all invite only, so I do much to "fix" the LFG list.
I'm going to demo Dungeon World with my group this evening; we normally play with D&D or Talislanta, with a little bit of Hellas thrown in every once in a while. I ran a zany session of Danger Patrol! a few months ago while away on a business trip; it's a nice little pick-up game. I'd love to play games like 3:16: Carnage Amongst the Stars, or Fiasco, or Durance some more, but have not taken the time to setup sessions. On the non-RPG front, I tried out a few sessions of Two Hour Wargames' game "Warrior Heroes". Like Asaram, I don't tend to list games in LFG.
Asaram said: Worthy of metion though is that I never actually list my games publicly, they're all invite only, so I do much to "fix" the LFG list. Me too...while I have looked for prospective players on the LFG forums, only an aborted attempt to get interest in Twilight:2000 game ever made it there.
I've played a lot of games, and it might be cool to play in another THRASH game, or MAID RPG or Mascot-tan or BESM with a new group of people. But the big thing is that yes, in ordor to get more niche games up and running you have to run them yourself and I tend to be bad at that...
I want to try playing Battletech. Not Mechwarrior, Battletech. Hex maps, mechs, torso twists, heat phases. All on 2d6. I can't be doing with using MMOs, FPSs or specifically built software.

Chris, count me in on Battletech. What version? My books are all from the FASA era right up to about 3055. (Missed out on the last couple books before FASA shut down). I also play Star Fleet Battles but that is even more rare to find players for. This summer I will try to get some Battletech stuff going if you are interested. - Gauss
Sounds good. I only have FASA stuff. I re-bought the Battletech Compendium which details Inner Sphere and Clans. It's the 1990s edition: http://www.sarna.net/wiki/The_BattleTech_Compendium

Yeah, I have pretty much every edition and book Battletech put out from 1st edition up until FASA closed (except for the books that are post-3055, about 2-3books). That includes the Compendium. :) - Gauss
The frequency of dnd and pathfinder are because they are what the majority of people are familiar with. If I create a game with an obscure rule system, say for example Powers & Pearls, the odds of finding enough players to attempt it is pretty slim. If I start a pathfinder game, the odds are a near certainty. Sometimes I wonder if there aren't too many systems. Its great having variety, but with so many different systems, it will get more and more difficult to locate someone else that wants to play the same game as you do.
