A good night's rest has the adventurers feeling much stronger, ready to pursue the cult and rescue Brin. Mella also stops to buy a chicken pet, but fortunately this slight diversion does not significantly delay the pursuit. After a half-day of cautious travel along the obvious trail left by the cult's raiding party, they spot a thin column of smoke ahead. Twinkle Tom is able to sneak close enough to see a cook fire, where a few cultist guards are eating lunch. These cultists look much more capable than the rank-and-file that raided the town, particularly their leader. The guards aren't completely oblivious, though, and spot Tom among the rocks and brush. As they move to investigate, the party moves to the attack. Luna summons entangling vines and a ball of fire, simultaneously holding some of the enemy back and scorching them. Tom and Noram hold the line against the cultist leader, and Mella mocks his fashion choices...which does nothing for his attack accuracy. As the battle rages, more guards come from the northwest, soon followed by a line of chained prisoners...led by Brin! Mella runs to free them and heal Brin, leaving herself open to attack but fortunately the cultists are unable to take advantage. The rest of the party quickly finishes off the remaining guards. Brin relates his story of capture , and introduces one of his fellow prisoners as Leosin Erlander, the monk who was reported missing by the leaders of Greenest. Leosin is able to tell the adventurers more about the cult, including the identity of the camp's leader...Rezmir, a half-black dragon. He confirms also that Mondath, the purple robed cleric cultist, and Cyanwrath, the half-blue dragon warrior, were also part of the camp leadership. Further, he relates that a cave in the rear of the camp is being used to hatch a clutch of chromatic dragon eggs. The birth of those evil dragons would be a great victory for the cult and must be stopped. Leosin and the other prisoners are sent back to town, and the party moves on toward the camp. From a vantage point on the walls of the canyon where the camp lies, they see that the cult is moving wagonloads of supplies out and to the north. Following these for several hours reveals only that they are headed north, into an area with no known towns. Heeding Leosin's warning about the dragon eggs, the adventurers decide to return to the camp to deal with the cave first, leaving the wagons for later. Rather than try to sneak or fight through the camp, the party decides to try disguise. Mella disguises herself with magic to look like the half-blue dragon Cyanwrath, and the others dress in cultist garb as her escort. The camp is nearly deserted, as most of the cultists have headed north with the wagons, but those who remain defer to Mella-as-Cyanwrath. The same holds true as the group enters the cave, where they search through several rooms containing kobolds or cult guards without raising suspicions. Deep in the cave, they find a shrine room dedicated to the Queen of Dragons. Mella steps forward to convince the guards to let them pass... ...and is confronted by the real Cyanwrath! The guards are confused by seeing two of their leader, but Cyanwrath has no such qualms and quickly attacks, striking down Mella nearly instantly. The party springs into action, with Luna taking the form of a huge black bear, Tom firing arrows, Brin sending magical darts at the half-dragon, and Noram stepping close into harm's way to inflict grievous wounds with his cleric magic. The battle is over almost before it begins, and with a large bear staring them down, the other guards are in no mood to challenge the victors. After reviving Mella, a quick look into the adjoining room reveals the two dragon eggs. Tom fires arrows to destroy them, and even finds a third egg hidden in a shadowy corner and destroys it as well. Tentacles snake from the dark corners and consume the eggs, and the party decides to leave well enough alone. Further investigation reveals only a trapped chest in the shrine and one more room, where Mondath had been staying. She fled once Cyanwrath was defeated, along with all the other cultists. The party does find a few papers she left behind, including one referencing "Naerytar" as their next destination, as well as a set of her purple cultist robes. Mella uses an unseen servant to recover the trapped chest without incident, and the party heads back to Greenest to report all that has happened.
