Equipment and Encumbarance Options

Hi, not sure if this is the right place to ask this but. I want to use the Optional Encumbrance Variant on the character sheet. In the game, characters can just dump thier backpack and other stuff before combat so they wont be encumber but of couse pick them up again after combat has ended. Is there a quick way to remove the weight of the item and return it back again without needing to memorize and jot down each item's weight on a separate notepad? Players might decide to drop 10 or more items so he wont be encumbered but it might slow the game a bit down if we need to wait for each one to re-add the weight manually.

Hi Wynther, what sheet are you using?  A workaround might be to only put the total of your gear's weight under the "container" that holds your gear. ie backpack, sack, or whatever.  Use a weight of "0" for the individual items that are stored in that container.  Then just toggle the container's carried/equipped option as needed. Another option is to just put a weight of "0" for everything if your table doesn't care to track encumbrance.
Hi Vince. I'm using the DnD 5e by Roll20 (i think its the default one). I'm also using the "carrying capacity" rule. There are some items that doesn't need weight recorded, but for items like backpack, bedrolls, ropes, torches etc, we need them to show their weight. The sheet does have a an option to click on the weight box and i can just write down the items inside the backpack. So there is no macro or quick way to do it then?

I don't think there's a quick way other than my thoughts above.  You could have 2 or 3 different "loadouts" that have your total carried weight.  Toggle on of the loadouts that matches your situation.  Again, you would simply track individual items as weight "0", since your loadout will represent your current encumbrance at any given time.  Or maybe toggle the encumbrance to "off" under sheet settings if you drop your stuff.  Macros by themselves can only read attribute data.  It takes an API script(pro level option) to manipulate attributes, such as toggling itemweight, or itemcount to "0".
