TIP - Modern Maps

I thought I'd share something I've found for creating modern maps. I've been using a site called www.floorplanner.com which allows you to setup a free account and create one map. You can change this map as much as you like and print it as required - I tend to use a pdf printer and then extract the pic :) Obviously you can sign up and create more maps but the really nice thing is that maps that others have created are readily available for you to search through. So simply putting something like hotel and floorplanner in google brings up a whole series of floorplans that others have created for hotels - obviously theres a bit of dross but ive not failed to find a suitable map yet :). Linking to the map then gives you the option for printing it or viewing it as a 3d model on screen. For a game like shadowrun where technology is supposed to be bleeding edge this adds a new level to someone searching around for blueprints of a building as you can send the link and they can look at it in 3d :)
Thanks man, this is exactly what I was looking for. Playing mostly games set in the modern world, like the WoD setting, I found it always hard to find maps that deal in more conventional stuff like appartments, restaurants, parks and such.
I've also had good luck making modern day maps by taking screenshots from the Sims 3. This way, you can also get exterior views and "what your character sees" views. Plenty of people out there trying to make things like restaurants, parks and etc, so you can piggy back off of their work without needing to get too involved in creation.
Reading this post I just realized I could use the H&G House designing program that comes with a landscape designing program ( since I already own it).
Funny you should mention that, Dave D. I needed a government bunker facility for a modern superheroes game the other day and found myself remembering the old Fallout series video games. "If only I could grab a screenshot of a Vault 13 floorplan," I thought. Within a few minutes of googling, I found a wiki for Fallout which contained high-resolution maps of each area in the game. Downloaded them, did some slight cleanup in paint, and uploaded into Roll20. In short - stealing floor plans from video games is a great idea. :)
