In the darkness before dawn, the adventurers awake and the lizardfolk gather. The plan is simple - the revolutionaries will sweep into the castle at dawn, overwhelming the bullywug guards at the end of the night shift. Then the gate will be lowered to block bullywug reinforcements, while the attack sweeps through the rest of the castle. All goes according to plan at first, with the lizardfolk attackers quickly overwhelming the bullywug guards at the gate. But when Noram tries to lower the gate, it drops only a few feet and stops, stuck fast with rust. Brin unleashes a knock spell to force the gate to move, but the stress proves too much, and the gate falls to rubble! This serves the purpose, though, as the entryway is blocked and a few lizardfolk guards are able to hold it against any incoming bullywug reinforcements. With their rear secured, the lizardfolk army pushes ahead into the castle proper. They drive bullywug guards before them, but soon meet stiffer resistance in the form of well-armed lizardfolk - cult collaborators. The two groups trade insults and are on the verge of coming to blows, but Twinkle Tom steps between them. In a short but impassioned speech, he appeals to the new group of lizardfolk, promising swift victory over the cult if they join the revolution. Swayed by his words, the new arrivals join the cause, and the united army battles bullywugs and cultists in the main courtyard and around the keep. As the fighting moves north, a familiar figure emerges from the southwest tower - Frulam Mondath, the purple-robed cult leader of the raid on Greenest. She is accompanied by several cult warriors, including a bronze dragonborn and a cultist who can fly! The party engages them quickly, before this cult sortie can disrupt the lizardfolk army. Luna entangles several of the cult warriors with a spell, then shifts to bear form and tears through several others, with inspiration from Mella's bardic skills. Twinkle Tom's arrows drop several more, Brin's magic missiles hit with devastating force, and Noram shows not only mastery of his cleric powers but also surprising dexterity with a crossbow. The cult attack is over almost before it begins, with the bronze dragonborn cultist captured, and the others slain. By the time the sun has risen to noon, the battle is over. The lizardfolk revolution is victorious, with all the cultists fled or slain and the bullywugs driven underground. Those who survive have taken refuge in a cavern under the northwest tower - the same cavern where the cult's looted valuables are stored. Snapjaw and the other lizardfolk thank the adventurers profusely, and are even happier when Mella makes them a gift of several cultist weapons and armor. The afternoon is spent exploring the castle. They find the chambers of Rezmir, but no sign of the half-black dragon cult leader herself. She must have fled before the battle, and all that remains is some of her clothes and a black dragon statuette. More searching uncovers a guest room in the keep containing a set of red robes...a strange finding, considering that all the cult leaders thus far have worn purple. Brin also finds a spellbook here, indicating that the resident of those rooms must have been a mage. Also in the keep, they search the rooms of the elvish cultist Borngray, finding a locked strongbox but little else. According to his pet raven (who is happy to speak with Tom), Borngray left his rooms when the fighting started, but whether he was slain or managed to escape is unclear. At the top of the keep, the party finds a strange telescope-like device. Tom peers through it and sees a cave guarded by lizardfolk, but before he can get more than a glimpse, four statues on the keep walls come to life and attack! The four gargoyles cannot be reasoned with, but Mella reacts quickly and shows them the dragon statuette from Rezmir's quarters. This gives the animated stone statues pause, buying enough time for the adventurers to escape back down the stairs and bar the door. In later conversation with Snapjaw, they learn that the cave that Tom saw was the lair of the black dragon Voaraghamanthar, who the lizardfolk worship as a god. The lizardfolk hope that with the cult gone, the dragon will once again rule the swamp. In the southwest tower, a quick look upstairs reveals nothing but some strange sounds from above, which Tom identifies as the skittering of giant spiders. Leaving well enough alone, they retreat to the first floor and find a small chapel, complete with a wooden carving of Tiamat. Snapjaw shows Mella how to open a secret compartment in the carving, revealing a dagger of venom which he gifts to the bard for all her help in the revolution. Having explored the majority of the castle, the party chooses to rest for the night. The lizardfolk hold the castle securely, and will keep watch over the dragonborn cultist prisoner. Tomorrow, the cavern under the northwest tower awaits.
