The group's fight with the water weird drew the attention of the Sapphire Song, and the cult set off their ritual immediately instead of waiting for morning. The party had barely regained their strength and were planning their next steps when the town came under attack by a swarm of mist mephits. After the party fought off the mephits outside the inn, the guards established a line and asked for their help in reaching the magic-users in the Ghostforge neighborhood. Oscar, using his nature magic to become a horse, ran through the mephits and cultists in the way to carry a messenger to the wizards. The other four, with Captain McKinnon's begrudging support, sought out the source of the fog to try and disrupt it. The two groups reconnected at the center of the ritual, a great whirlpool under the city's central bridge. While the magic users of Ghostforge banded together to take out the mephits and their summoners, the party leapt into the whirlpool to stop the ritual to release Ayk within. They arose victorious, and were simultaneously rewarded and threatened that acting without the knowledge of the city guard would have repercussions in the future.
