Questions on mechanics when Running 'Curse of Strahd'

So, I purchased Curse of Strahd from the Marketplace, and both I and my players have really been enjoying it, to the point I'm running the game for two different groups.  One thing I was curious is how many DMs – if any – run the larger area maps (like the world map of Barovia, or the town maps) with the active Advanced Fog of War and Dynamic Lighting in effect, so that players have to wander around to get the area cleared and visible?  I felt at first like it added something to the ambience but right now, I don't know.  I'm also concerned about if possibly slowing things down in regards to the players making decision or getting to where their going.  Any thoughts?

For Barovia, I used normal fog of war, as the AFoW and DL was too much work. It definitely adds to the horror feel, but that's subjective.
