The Council of Waterdeep meets again, calling together lords from across the land. The threat of the Cult of the Dragon has only increased, with dragon and cultist raids affecting many of those gathered. The Emerald Enclave, representing druids and other like-minded lovers of nature, report attacks by a green dragon in the Misty Forest. The elf King Melandrach says that his forces can handle the situation, but the representatives of the Enclave disagree and ask the adventurers to investigate the attacks. The party is brought to Altand, an elf village which recently suffered a dragon attack. They question various survivors, including the town's leader, Galin. Unfortunately the bard's line of questioning shows little empathy for Galin's losses and he refuses to speak further, but they find others who are more willing. The dragon attack was quick and devastating, and he was followed by dragon cultists wreaking even more destruction. After killing many, they retreated to the southeast. Following the path of the dragon's retreat to the southeast, the adventurers make their way through the woods. After a few hours, they come across an old druid caught under a fallen tree. She begs for their help, and after some initial suspicion, Bron frees her. (Though it seems she may not have needed help after all...) She blesses them for this act of kindness, granting everyone a flower wreath that hides their passage from the dragon's animal spies. Further into the woods, webs begin to appear between the trees. These quickly thicken until there is no choice but to cut or burn them, which draws the attention of several spiders and ettercaps. Glowing with the power of Lolth, the spiders are dangerous foes who are drawn to attack Induris. The battle would have gone ill had he been alone, but with the whole party engaged, victory is swift. The monk harvests the spiders' eyes and poison sacks for future experimentation with his drunken master craft brews. Having broken through the webs, their destination comes into view - a cave behind a waterfall. Green mist seeps out, marking this as the lair of a green dragon. They approach carefully and slip behind the waterfall...literally in the case of Bron and George, who fall on the slippery surface and slide down into the cave. The others make their way down more cautiously, to find that a group of guards confronts them. The guards are elves who demand to know their names and affiliation. No one knows quite what to say, and a few abortive attempts to convince the guards that they are here as allies fall flat. Suspicious, the guards ask the party to name the green dragonspeaker, and when they cannot, try to raise the alarm. Induris is quick enough to shoot one guard who tries to run for help, though, and the others are easily and quietly defeated. Knowing they must move quickly before anyone comes to check on the guards, the party pushes forward. They find a large cavern with a deep pool, and several tunnels leading deeper into the cave. To the north, they find a smaller cavern full of cultists. Deciding to take advantage of surprise, the entire party rushes these enemies, quickly cutting them down. This alerts more cultists in a nearby room, though, who attack from behind and injure the bard before the others can return. These also are defeated, but the sound of the battle carries through the cave... ...and is heard by the dragon, who emerges from the water in the larger cavern with an elf riding on his back! Though too large to enter the tunnel, the dragon breathes a poisonous vapor toward the adventurers, badly injuring several of the party. While the others recover, the monk charges forward and upward, using his winged boots to meet the dragon and rider in mid-air. A powerful blow stuns the elf rider, who falls from his perch and into the pool. This rouses the ire of the dragon, who soon knocks the monk unconscious and down into the water. By this time, Bron has reached the water's edge and engages the dragon, who is hovering near the surface. In an amazing feat of acrobatics, Induris runs up to the barbarian, vaults from his shoulders into the air, and lands on the dragon's back! But the scaly hide proves too tough for his attack. Not appreciating this unwelcome passenger, the dragon dives into the pool, knocking the rogue off his back. He picks up his rider and swam away to the south end of the pool, while Induris splashes back toward land. Another group of the dragon's allies arrives from a deeper corner of the cave to the southwest, but George calls on his deep bardic lore and summons a fireball that burns most of them where they stand. Shazz'm and George use their healing skills to wake the monk and heal the others as much as possible, but the situation was dire. The dragon chose this moment to attack again with his poison breath, another devastating blow. Seeing that the adventurers are badly injured, the elf calls out for them to surrender. Moments later the dragon himself adds his voice to the call. Most of the party refuses to listen and runs back into the northern tunnel, but George is convinced and even begins to bow to the dragon. Not wishing to see a bard eaten, Induris hits him over the head and drags him away. But this was only a temporary respite. The party rushes headlong through the cavern tunnels, finding two other rooms. These prove to hold no escape, and they soon found themselves trapped by the dragon's servants. Induris launches one last desperate attack, but another cloud of poison filled the air and the adventurers knew no more. You awake to find yourself tied spread-eagle to the wall of the cavern, in the southwest corner on an open bluff overlooking the pool. Your belongings are piled in front of you in some sort of trophy display. In the cavern below are a group of about a dozen terrified-looking elves, and hovering over the pool is the dragon and his rider. "Behold the mighty adventurers who would challenge Chuth!" sneers the dragon in your direction. "None can withstand my might." He addresses the cowering crowd. "Never doubt that I am your master, now and forever." The elf on the dragon's back speaks to the crowd, too quietly for you to hear. Several of them climb up onto the bluff, and pick up some of your weapons. "Thus fall all my enemies!" roars Chuth. Shaking with fear, the elves approach you. Some are crying, and others choke out apologies in voices too low for the dragon to hear. One older-looking man, better composed than the others, shakes his head. "If only you had come when he was not at home!" They lift the weapons, and the last you see is the blades descending.
