Jardeth reports grave news from Murghôm. The cult has divided the dragon council. The blue dragon prince Skalnaedyr responded to the sounding of the Draakhorn by throwing his support behind the cult, and the sapphire dragon prince Domborcojh has since joined him. Chelnadatilar convinced the emerald dragon prince Astanalan to stand against the cult, and so civil war spreads across Murghôm. Jardeth requests that the adventurers return with him to assist Chelnadatilar, and uses a teleportation rune to return them to Greenest. Governor Nighthill meets the party and briefs them on the situation. Chelnadatilar is with his armies, leading them against the cult allies. Civil war rages across the land, but it is clear that the advantage of numbers lies with the enemies. He hopes that the adventurers will be able to tilt the balance. The immediate need - a cult raiding force has been operating out of the old cultist camp and cave, where the party first found the dragon eggs. With the main army engaged in the civil war, the governor has been unable to rally a force strong enough to defeat them and is forced to keep strong garrisons in the surrounding towns. If they are removed, he will be able to send more support to the front lines. The party joins one of the supply caravans heading for the front lines, hiding in plain sight as guards and drivers. After several hours of travel, the wagons are passing through hilly terrain when Al the monk spots cultists hiding above! The adventurers leap into action, subduing a dozen cultists including their half-green dragon leader. After a short rest, everyone dresses in cultist robes taken from the fallen, and heads toward the camp. Induris convinces the guards that they've returned early from the raid to report victory, while the rest of the raiding crew are celebrating their victory elsewhere. This story gets the party all the way into the cave and to the dragon shrine, where the half-red dragon leader of the remaining cultists waits. Abandoning subterfuge, the party surprises the cultists in the shrine with an all-out attack. These fall quickly, but they are not the only foes - a young black dragon emerges from deeper in the cavern! One egg had escaped destruction when they were here before, and the dragon has been living here ever since. The sound of battle draws cultists from other areas of the cave, and the adventurers are caught between the reinforcements and the dragon. George the bard, knowing that the dragon is the larger threat, sings a spell of transformation. An older dragon would shrug off such a spell, but this one is still young and inexperienced, and so is unable to resist. As the song ends, where the dragon once stood is a mere angry duck. Ignoring the furious quacking, the other adventurers quickly dispatch the cultists. Having cleared all other enemies from the area, they are then able to surround the duck and attack it with maximum force. With the first blow, the spell is broken, but their advantage is overwhelming and the dragon soon falls. The few remaining cultists in the camp see that their leaders have fallen and flee, leaving the party free to return to Greenest. Governor Nighthill is very pleased with their work and provides food and shelter for the night. In the morning, they will continue their efforts to win this civil war.
