Rather than confront Rezmir immediately, the adventurers decide to first investigate more of the castle. In a tower on the western wall, they find two Red Wizards deep in conversation. Malkior's rat familiar spots them before they realize they have company, allowing the party to take them by surprise. Thanks to Ulrik's silence spell, the mages are no match for the assault! One of them falls almost immediately, and the other likely would have as well if not for a magical disappearing wall that allows him to flee outside. Once there, he turns invisible and flies away. Searching the wizard tower turns up several letters and a heavy iron-bound book. Most of this is written in Infernal, but the parts that are in Common are letters from Severin, the leader of the Cult of the Dragon, to Rath Modar, a Red Wizard. The Cult is partnering with the Red Wizards to perfect the ritual they will use to summon Tiamat from her imprisonment in the Nine Hells. Malkior takes some of the Red Wizard robes to disguise himself. Deciding the time is ripe to pursue the treasure, the adventurers return to the central structure, quietly deal with the guards, and descend the stairway into the ice cave. Jamna leads them to a large ice cavern where many creatures are frozen as trophies into the icy walls. Lariat recognizes this as the sign of a white dragon's lair! Cautiously they explore further, and before long come across the treasure horde and the dragon himself. This is Glazhael, an adult white dragon who has been charged by the cult with guarding the treasure meant for Tiamat's return. He mistakes the adventurers for servants at first, but soon grows more cordial when Ulrik mentions that they are working on behalf of Talis the White. After some discussion, Glazhael agrees that he will not interfere with the party's actions against Rezmir, since that will benefit Talis' campaign against Varram. However, he will not abandon his post with the treasure! In thanks, the adventurers feed him the bodies of the dead guards, which he accepts gracefully. The party returns to the courtyard and finds a room containing two giants, which they leave alone, and a storeroom with building supplies. Some of the ogres wandering about the courtyard grow curious and approach, but Malkior in his Red Wizard robes easily convinces them that nothing is amiss. In the process he learns that the ogres obey a Lord Blagothkus, who is in the largest central tower. Still not ready to face Rezmir, the adventurers move into the central tower. Several floors up they find the main entrance and several more ogre guards, who again are easily swayed by Malkior the "Red Wizard." On the next floor, the party finds Blagothkus, who turns out to be a cloud giant! They decide to avoid confronting him for now. Instead they go up to the very top of the tower, and find the castle's control room. However, it is magically locked...
