Last we left the adventurers in Ravensholme, having found the merchant and acquired work before the night's end. The coming morning saw the adventurers rising at the break of dawn and preparing for the journey ahead. Unfortunately, the weather did not seem to be on their side as thick dark-grey clouds loomed overhead and a biting wind chilled their exposed skin - well, except for Larg, the Goliath, whose mountain born heritage was used to such weather. Naivara, the High Elf sorcerer, took the opportunity of rising early to head back to the horse-yard in the hopes of purchasing a horse after her unsuccessful attempts the day before. Thankfully for her, the gods were on her side and Sugarlight, a sabino horse of white coat and off-white pigmented mane, took a liking to her. Meanwhile, at the Inn, Bardryn had her morning pickup mug of rum, Larg helped the Merchant's servant ready the horses and caravan, and Leonithas joined the others shortly after. The Paladin went to speak with the Merchant and was met with a rather grouchy and offensive demeanour with the Merchant informing Leonithas that he had heard tales of bandits attacking travelers on the King's Road; or was it monsters - he couldn't be sure. Either way, he was greatly concerned and, in no uncertain terms, he reminded Leonithas that the adventurers were hired to protect him and if he died; they would not be paid. After reassuring the Merchant, Leonithas returned to the group and they set off shortly after, heading north out of Ravensholme and toward the Gogalla Empire, and Ealinor. About an hour-and-a-half into the trip, with Larg being overly watchful (rolling a crit on his perception!), the clouds unleashed their watery burden on the group as they came to a bend in the road with a fallen tree laying across their path. At the behest of the Merchant's servant driving the caravan, and oblivious to what could be a trap, Larg and Leonithas successfully attempted to move the fallen tree (with Leonithas rolling a crit on his STR!) just as six Goblins ran out from the cover of the nearby trees, three on each side of the road. The ensuing combat saw Leonithas, Bardryn, and Naivara focussing on the three to the left of the road, while Larg was left by himself to take on the three on the right. This did little to sway the goliath as he entered the foray in a rage, picking up on the smaller goblins and successfully throwing him into another, knocking one prone and taking health from both. As he did so, Yckacka Ibrado, the Goblin Chieftain, attempted to spear the large man before him; however, Larg's stone's endurance saw that the spear merely caused a tickle. Meanwhile, Leonithas and Bardryn made successful attacks on the other Goblins, while Naivara struggled to get a hit on any of them, though she did manage to dispel a blight bite made against her by Vul Cleh, the Blight Goblin. As Leonithas and Bardryn made short work of the two goblins next to them, Vul did manage to successfully evade their reaction attempts as she ran toward the Merchant's caravan after seeing that one of the Goblins who had escaped Larg made a successful attempt to climb on top of the caravan despite the rain. Naivara had a moment of clarity at this time, running after Vul and leaping at her with her longsword, lopping the head off the Blight Goblin before she managed to get to the caravan. Leonithas quickly followed, managing to clamber on to the drivers pew and with his morningstar, swipe up and take the goblin on the roof out sending blood across the top of the caravan and splattering down on to the driver. Bardryn had joined Larg at this time and took off after a fleeing Goblin successfully taking it out and Larg turned his attention to Yckacka, bringing his mighty battleaxe down upon him and in one fell hit took 22 points of HP leaving the Chieftain severely hanging on to life (only 6hp left!). Yckacka, seeing his end was nigh, made an attempt to run for the trees and despite Larg and Bardryn making last effort reactions to end him, he was able to dodge out of their way and dash into the foliage beyond. While the four spent a few moments regathering themselves and taking what coin they could from the bloody, muddy remains of the fallen, a very disgruntled - and thankless - Merchant, bade them to move on before more turned up.
