Can't Select Stuff

First, I was making the maps, and had to reload the page. Once it reloaded I was unable to select the map layer. I couldn't right click and when I tried selecting it I could only drag the rectangle selector (not the shape draw function). The map was close enough so I went with it.  Then I started placing the enemies in the dungeon. When I switched them to a GM layer to prevent the players from seeing them at first I could not select those either. They became translucent which I assumed was to show the GM layer status. So now I can't edit or move the map or the enemy tokens. Could I have some setting or something messed up? This is the first game I've run through Roll20.
I've had problems selecting things sometimes, but I found that if zoom is set to something low like 20% or 30% then I couldn't select things, but resetting the zoom back to 100% made the selection possible. Another thing that my players keep doing is switching the toolbar to a different mode so that the top tool isn't selected (the select tool).
Yeah I tried that as well, and it still can't be selected.
Oh and now when I make an image a map layer I can no longer select that either. Before it is a map layer it covers the grid. Once its a map layer it is behind the grid, but I ant select it to sign it to the grid or move it or anything

Question, it sounds like you are moving things from layer to layer through the popup menu. If you want to select something on the map layer, are you changing yourself to the map layer with the layer tool? There are three layers you can work on at the free level: Token/Object, GM/Notes, and Map. Each requires you to select that layer using the layer selection tool in the toolbar on the left in order to affect things on that layer.
Oh. My. God. You, sir, just blew my mind. I KNEW it had to be something like that I was overlooking as a Roll20 newbie. Thank you so much. That makes so much sense now.
