[LFP][Online][5e][Saturday][Homebrew][Discord] Rumors Of The Forgotten

Edited 1593702390
About the game:  I am going to be starting up a long term 5th Edition game of Dungeons and Dragons based in a homebrew world. The game is intended to be a sandbox style game to avoid the feeling of railroading plot forced upon players. Along with the homebrew world there will be some tweaks and additions in the form of homebrew rules which will be fully elaborated and presented later on . Also I'd like it that we (Myself, as Dungeon Master, and players I hope to add to the game) take our roleplay seriously, or at least not cracking jokes every other word. I hope/plan for this group to become more than a random group of strangers who only converse and associate with only on game days, to a group of friends and companions who can enjoy each others company for many times to come. Playtime & Timezones:  Currently. The game is planned to play Saturdays at 2 PM EST and often lasting until 6-7 PM EST, that is  4-5  hours . I also quite enjoy doing bonus sessions, so long as people agree to being up to play on none game days (Aka not Saturdays) and it works for everyone else we can play on other days as well. Important Information: I welcome and encourage new and inexperienced Dungeons and Dragons players! If you are new to Roleplaying or Dungeons and Dragons in general, then please do not be discouraged to send in your application. I highly discourage rules lawyers in my game and because of this have no problems welcoming new comers into the game. I will be willing to fully assist you in character creation and understanding the rules required to play. We will be using  Discord  as our VoIP and will also be the application I use to interview everyone a tiny bit before just blindly inviting someone in. Enjoyment and Roleplay is my top priority!  Enjoyment control isn't easy with two people not conversing correctly to one another and explaining how they feel about something, so I ask that if there is an issue or something preventing you from a better playing experience that you inform me. This way we can see what we can do to try and improve the situation if at all possible. As stated before, I enjoy more serious roleplay. This means that we can have many sessions that consist only of dialogue and minimal dice rolling. So if you’re looking for action and combat packed session each day we play then you may not fully enjoy this game, unless you go about causing conflicts. Hook/Pitch: An ancient engraved stone map forged long ago by prophets who discovered and forced the evils out of this land has been rumoured of lighting up with magics imbued in it. After a string a recent freak earthquakes across the land, things feel indifferent. Though this has just been a wild rumour as of late that something has reawakened all the evils sealed away long ago. The map is supposedly showing locations of old legendary catacombs, tombs, battlefields, and sites of importance of evil from the period this continent was formed and colonized. In Northwatch a wealthy patron, Gavin Remorsk, is calling out for those who live their lives on different accords from normal citizenship life. Gavin is a well known Magi who was one of the head professor’s at Butterfly Lake’s Ethereal University, though long past his prime now. He currently has a date set for numerous meetings at the Eleventh Flame Adventuring Guild, to send various people on a plethora of tasks whispers say. Gavin claims to pay handsomely either with coin, gems, reagents, or other things worth value. People speculate something to due with the recent events that have occurred over the land. Most adventurers have been picking up sword and shield in hopes of ancient treasures and riches. Will you follow the path of lust for loot, finding yourself wanting to figure out the mystery going on, or even just trying to survive what the legends and old tales may have stated. How Do I Join? To join our game, simply send myself a private message with the following information inside of it. Any applications posted on the forums will be ignored. Please note:  I will be looking over every application and responding to each one on whether or not you will move to the second phase of the interview process, or if your application simply isn’t what we’re looking for. Also, please be as descriptive as you can! The more detail you put in, the more you’ll stand out from the rest! And please note that unless specified, I am asking for your real life information, not that of your character. Thank you! Name:   Age: Player Motivation:  (This means what style you as an Rper distinguish yourself as. I will leave information about Player Motivation below this form) Why do you want to join this campaign? What does a character focused game mean to you? How familiar are you with Dungeons and Dragons? What types of Roleplay are you familiar with?  (e.g table-top, L.A.R.P., online gaming, private server RP, etc.) What, if any, lines do you draw when it comes to roleplay? Even if it is handled maturely. What are your wants and desires out of this campaign? What do you expect out of character death? Do you think it should happen at any point during combat if the player doesn’t keep their guard up? Or should the GM go easy to keep the game flowing? To what extent is rule-lawyering allowed during a game? How long would you like this campaign to go on for/how long can you commit to it? Rough Character background:  (This should not be the character you want to play! This is simply to test and see how well you can formulate a background for a character. Please be studious enough to invest at least a paragraph or two for this portion.) Any Additional information you’d like to address? Questions, comments? What kind of player would you say you are with these example provided? The Power Gamer: Get more powers and use them often and efficiently. The Butt-Kicker: Enjoys combat and destroying NPCs! The Tactician: Likes to beat complex situations through thought and planning. The Specialist: The one who always plays a <insert character type>. Ninjas and Dritzz clones are popular. The Method Actor: Likes total immersion in a character’s assumed persona, whatever the costs! The Storyteller: Enjoys exploring a story unfold around a character’s actions and choices. The Watcher/Lurker: Shows up to be with friends and share the social energies of the group without necessarily being motivated by the usual incentives. The Instigator: Likes to make things happen and trigger awkward situations The Outlier: Seeking the emotional kick of subverting a group’s dynamic by creating weird characters or actively seeking failure.
Name:  Emil Age:27 Player Motivation: I haven't really done anything like this before, but I would love to give it a try!  Looking to make new friends and play with them on a regular basis. I would like to give your campaign a try! Character development, friendship, challenge and fun! I've finished Critical role and the current High rollers Aerois campaigns, so I know some D&D, though there are probably lots more to be learned! I'm familiar with online gaming, online social etiquette, but I am fairly new to D6D. I don't really know if I draw any lines at this point, wich is why I want to give this a go, but generally racism and negative attitude is where I would draw the line. My wants and desires for this game is to make friends, have fun and explore a totally new side of myself. I would like the game to be somewhat challenging. Exploring and planning should pay off if done properly! I don't know what rule lawyering is per se. For as long as possible to both!                                                                                     Dear Mother. Vampires. Bloody beasts feasting on the very essence of man. Ever present in our daily lives, but kept out of sight during the day. Out of sight, out of mind the scholars say, yet they continue their reign of blood. All it takes is for some poor unlucky sod to stray down the dark alleyways in their drunken stupour, never to be heard from again. It kept going like this for a while. Hell, I grew up with this mess happening all around, even though you couldn't see them, you knew they were there. I like to think of myself as a hunter of these vampires, having fought these things since I joined the holy order. My party finally received some orders, an assault on Dimlife Hollow, rumored to be a lair to these bloodsuckers. It's a welcome pace, finally being let out of the city, taking the fight to these damned beasts. I don't think we'll have a problem weeding out these freaks, we have, after all, fought their kind for five years now. How hard can it be? I was wrong. We were not prepared. A party taking down a single vampire it one thing, but fighting an entire coven of them was something else entirely. Kenneth was the first to fall. They ambushed us from behind, giving us little to no chance to survive. Lareth was the second casualty, felled by one of those blasted rebukes. Laudrel and Santar died just minutes ago, having their blood sucked by a swarm of them, but we cut them down, only to make it too late. Fuck, is there no end to this? Nexxrahlmar he called himself, the previous leader of this blasted coven. Bree was cloven in two by a greatsword, while myself and Sander each took a handful of ice shards to our chests. Managed to end his reign, but at what cost? Sander won't last for long, a shard pierced his heart, yet I can only sit here and watch as his life fades away while resting his head in my hands. we have no magic or  potions left, results of bad planning I suppose. There are strange things going on all over the region. Earthquakes. Fiends. Catacombs. Ancient fiends. Rumors of a fragment of immense power, soime kind of map carved onto stone, wich is the freshest topic of every tavern I enter. Dug up by some scholars I reckon. Mother, If you are reading this letter, I have gone to answer the call to arms, issued by one Gavin Remorsk, a magi down by Butterfly lake, at the Eleventh Flame Adventuring Guild. I hope this letter finds you and Moira well, although I have no right to request an answer, what having left you behind to, "fight the good fight, ending this war of blood once and for all". Should you, by any chance want to send me a reply, you know where I can be found. S incerely, your son, Dahlgrim. Do you have any questions regarding what I have written so far, feel free to reach out, and I will clarify to the best of my ability! I like to think of myself as a kind and fair player!
I'm getting an error when trying to PM you so I've sent you my app through PM on Reddit if that's ok?
Name:  Austin Age: 26 Player Motivation:  (This means what style you as an Rper distinguish yourself as. I will leave information about Player Motivation below this form) Why do you want to join this campaign? I am looking from a change of pace from my current campaign which is primarily a dungeon crawl.  What does a character focused game mean to you? Characters are the forefront of the story. They aren’t just a part of the world, they mold it with their decisions.  How familiar are you with Dungeons and Dragons? I’ve played 5e for about 1.5 years and played 3.5 for about 6 months.  What types of Roleplay are you familiar with?  (e.g table-top, L.A.R.P., online gaming, private server RP, etc.) Tabletop What, if any, lines do you draw when it comes to roleplay? Even if it is handled maturely. Nonconsent and rape are off limits for me. Anything else is fine if dealt with maturely.  What are your wants and desires out of this campaign? To experience a new world and help create it.  What do you expect out of character death? Do you think it should happen at any point during combat if the player doesn’t keep their guard up? Or should the GM go easy to keep the game flowing? Both. If you are too lax, death should be an option, aka resting for three days outside a dragons cave without any prep. If it was just a minor miscalculation or ability, give a chance for redemption.  To what extent is rule-lawyering allowed during a game? Rule of fun should be king, but within the rules.  How long would you like this campaign to go on for/how long can you commit to it? Yes Rough Character background:  (This should not be the character you want to play! This is simply to test and see how well you can formulate a background for a character. Please be studious enough to invest at least a paragraph or two for this portion.) I have a couple ideas that I’ve loved for a while: Cheddar a kenku wizard who was experimented on by an archmage. He gets his name from the one thing that brings him joy, cheese. Cheese was his only food when he was a prisoner and was only given it when he did something right.  Bjorn Svenson, a father of four. His small village lies in the foothills of a local mountain range. For generations his family has taken the oath of the bear, giving him the strength to defend his village from the giant and owlbears. He is looking for an adventure so that he has bed time stories to tell his kids.  His eldest son Eirik is about to take the oath, but is scared. Bjorn wants to encourage him that the oath is good. So he seeks a path of doing good outside his village to encourage him. Bjorn is seeking the root of the strength to bring it back to his village.  Any Additional information you’d like to address? Questions, comments? What kind of player would you say you are with these example provided? A combo between story teller, power gamer and instigator.
Let me know if I missed anything. Also, I'm still not very familiar with this website. Name: Tom Age: 22 Player motivation: I see DnD as a two-sided coin. On the one hand, there are the tactics of combat. Do I use this spell or save it? Where do I position myself so that I'm out of range an in range from who and what I want? On the other hand, there is the literally acting involved in RPing your character. What would someone wiser than myself have to say about this? How can I put myself in the shoes of someone less charismatic? I like both of these aspects of the game! Why I'm interested in joining this campaign: I've had more of an itch recently than can be scratched by the campaign I'm currently playing in. Several people have wanted to join, which is great, but the newer members truthfully aren't very engaged, and do to the size of the group we now meet infrequently. I'm also interested in picking up DMing, and I sometime like to learn by watching. What "Character Driven" means to me:  The most important part of any story is the characters. In DnD, that's the player's responsibility. It's a legitimate challenge, but can also be super rewarding. Lines in the Sand:  In terms of what happens in game - I can't imagine a scenario off the top of my head. In terms of what happens at the table - hatred, spite, and similar behavior. Familiarity with DnD:  I've played 4 characters through a total of 12 levels, not counting 1 shots. Watched Critical Role. I'm only familiar with DnD. What are My Desires for this Campaign:  I'm interesting in seeing how other people approach DnD! When you play in a group with the same people, it's fun, but you can get into a rut, too. I'm due for a good rut-bust. Character Death:  In me and friends' main campaign, I'm the only one who's had a character death. I think they can be really compelling, and that the game loses some of its meaning if they're not allowed to occur. That said, it can be jarring if occurs at the wrong time. We need to have the chance to get attached to characters. I don't exactly know what you mean by "rule-lawyering." Time Frame to which I Can Commit:  OK, this is important. I'd be interested in committing for 2 months. I understand if you're looking for a longer commitment. That said, if you want one extra player for the first act, I'm your guy. Playstyle:  50% tactician, 50% method actor. --- Example Character 1: Jebediah (Jeb) Willford could not make his firbolg clan understand: the world is bigger than just their forest. Gods are out there, and their schemes are more consequential than the lives of any one being. So, he left. Jeb knows little more than that he has much to learn. The mysteries of the universe are difficult to grasp, but how can we ever hope to understand them if we don't try? Jeb... definitely considers himself lawful good. He's more concerned with the greater scheme of things than with a petty "good deed." In his quest to understand the big picture, can he remain grounded enough to stay truly good? - He's a death cleric, far traveler, firbolg. --- Example Character 2: "Tillotson" - son of one who tills the lot - is a poor man's surname, and Amber certainly fits the bill. She grew up in a hovel with three older brothers and their parents. Some of her earliest memories are of talking the cows to water, and meanwhile making meticulous mental notes of the routines of her neighbors, so that she wouldn't have to run into them on her way to the river. They would always try to engage her in conversation, and she could never manage to reciprocate as they seemed to want. A primary school teacher noticed her cunning, however, and later recommended that she make the daily commute to attend secondary school in a nearby city. Her brothers scraped together enough for her to afford the supplies and the commute, and her life was revolutionized. Long story short, she befriended a girl whose father is an amateur wizard and, for her high school graduation, gave Amber her first spell book. She gradually found herself imbued with power and recognition that she had never before known. She was finally fitting in with her neighbors, whom she helped whenever possible using her newfound abilities. Eventually, unable to afford further study, she somehow got it in her head to break into the home of one of the area's landlords - who also happens to be a wizard - with the intent of theft. Things took a turn for the south, and she ran. Her only regret is not having the chance to say goodbye to her family. She's a human, folk hero,  (conjuration)  wizard.

I tried to DM you my application for the game last week, but Roll20 wasn't cooperating (I kept getting an error), so I DM'd you on Reddit instead (username: Serasiel). It looks like you used a throwaway account on Reddit, so if you didn't see it and you've already got a group, that's fine! I just wanted to get some closure on what the situation is lol. If you still have space/haven't decided yet, I'm still interested in joining up!
