The fate of Skyreach Castle is of great concern for the Council, as an alliance with the giants will be of great value against the Cult of the Dragon. Little is known of the situation at the crash site, though the councillors do know the location and some information about a nearby dwarven settlement. The party agrees to investigate and boards a ship to head north. Skyreach Castle has crashed in the southeast corner of a large ice-covered island. From the information provided by the Council, they know that there is a giant settlement in the center of the island, and they decide to visit this first. In the great mead hall of the frost giant chief Brunvild, they find Blagothkus trying to convince his kin to assist with repairs to the castle. Brunvild does not seem to be in any hurry to do so, but the adventurers offer to assist. Blagothkus asks them to check on the castle and assess the need for repairs. Travel to the crash site is slow in the cold and snowy terrain, but they reach the castle without incident. Skyreach Castle lies in a large crater caused by the crash, with the front gate and outer courtyard largely destroyed. The main tower and inner courtyard seem intact, but have been frozen into the crater by the snow and ice. It will take a major effort to clear the ice to free it, and additionally the magic powering the castle's flight requires repairs. Still present in the castle's stables are several wyverns, which the party is able to handle well enough to ride. With this much faster form of transportation, they choose to visit the dwarves in the northern part of the island. With their introduction from the Council, they are able to gain an audience with the leader. He is uninterested in helping with the castle, but if they could convince the giants to allow the dwarven trade caravans to pass without tolls, he would be willing to assist. Induris buys a large goblet from him as a gift for Brunvild. Before returning to the giants, the party chooses to fly south and investigate the mountain there. Here they find a crotchety hermit, who has no interest in being part of any castle repair effort. In exchange for being left alone, he is willing to provide information, and gives the adventurers an overview of the rest of the island. As part of this, he mentions that a white dragon has been seen in the area - quite possibly working with cultists! Flying back to the giant hall, the party tries to convince Brunvild to make a trade pact with the dwarves. Despite Induris' fine gift, he doesn't seem likely to do so, but he is intrigued by these small folk. So he sets them a task - retrieve the egg of a remorhaz, a kind of cold-loving beast prized by the giants as guard animals and mounts. If they can complete this task, he will consider their requests. Thanks to the hermit's information, the party knows where the remorhaz nesting grounds can be found. They fly up into an area of rocky high ground, land at a distance, and sneak up close. Watching the beasts reveals the entrance to several burrows, so they choose one that a remorhaz has just left and enter stealthily. Inside, a long tunnel slopes downward into a large room. Induris sneaks up to the entrance, and spots another remorhaz in the corner with several eggs...
