When the adventurers had prepared themselves, the spirit of Diderius opened a secret door leading into the lair of the yuan-ti. The way was guarded by lizardfolk and yuan-ti who did not take kindly to interlopers. The party was forced to fight for nearly every step as they made their way through the lair. The battle was far from easy. The terrain was against them - both Lariat and Ulrik nearly fell into a pit filled with hissing snakes. The yuan-ti attacked not only the body, but also the will, planting confusing mental suggestions. But the adventurers fought through both physical and mental hazards, eventually finding themselves in a long hallway. Malkior sent his familiar to scout the area, learning that a hatchery lay to the west, barracks to the east, and a large chamber to the south. The party decided to clear the barracks of lizardfolk and yuan-ti, but leave the hatchery. Then they proceeded to the large chamber, finding it occupied by more warriors as well as huge, snake-like yuan-ti priestess. The priestess does not immediately order her minions to attack, wishing instead to avoid any more bloodshed for her people. She offers to turn over the dwarf Varram if the adventurers will leave without doing any further harm. Happy to avoid any additional battles, the party agrees and leaves with the badly beaten and unconscious dwarf. They retrace their steps, leaving the tomb behind. There's an awkward moment when they pass by the devils who still wait where Varram left them, but Lariat covers the dwarf with a blanket and the devils seem none the wiser. Once outside, Ulrik is able to heal Varram enough to allow him to travel, and they return to the tent city near Boareskyr Bridge. Here the party meets with their Harper contacts, and arrange a return to Waterdeep. On the way, they are able to question Varram. They learn that he no longer has the white dragon mask, and in fact had been hoping to find it using the divination pool in the tomb. But all his efforts told him only that the Cult has already reclaimed the mask, and then he was captured by the yuan-ti and severely beaten. Despite the failure to capture the white dragon mask, the Council is pleased with the capture of Varram, who can provide many details of Cult membership and plans. His information is old, but still useful. The dwarf is left in the custody of the Harpers, and the party rests for a few days before setting out on their next assignment.
