Thought I would give the players a little behind the scenes information. Gottrod is a young adult male red dragon, he is also a terrible coward. Therefore, Gottrod has been able to exist so close to Shackled city over the years without being detected. He never attacks travelers, nearby villages and tends to shy away from any humanoids. Gottrod has learned through the death of other dragons, that when a dragon tends to meddle in the affairs of humans that they tend to eventually end up dead. Jared is the exception that makes the rule true. This crazy spell casting hermit was once a high-level illusionist that had lost his party during an adventure, this traumatic incident made Jared to slowly start to lose his grasp upon reality. Jared retreated into a world of his own, using his illusions to create a beautiful kingdom that he could rule over peacefully. Jared with his knowledge of illusions, coupled with his Rod of Splendor, is able to make elaborate kingdoms for Jared to live in, and even the servants were illusions. When Gattrod first met the senile Jared, he at first thought it would be an easy snack that no one would miss. After figuring out that Jared was touched and listening to Jared praise him as a fearsome dragon that was a scourge to all of Forena, he decided to let Jared live. So, began their game. A game that Jared consciously never knew he was playing. Jared would use his spells to create his wonderous castle and surrounding city, then Gattrod would come and destroy it. Jared would go out and fight Gattrod, using illusions, summoning an illusion of the great gold wyrm Sylzarian and the king of the earth elemental Cargonew. Some of Jared’s illusions would slightly hurt Gottrod(because they were phantasmal forces that were partly real), but for the most part Gattrod would get away unscathed, all the while being cursed and praised as the horrible threat to the great kingdom of Audriel. This way, Gottrod felt like he was a fearsome dragon that plagued the countryside, all the while staying safely hidden away in the forest. That was until the adventures stumbled upon him. Gottrod is the son of the legendary great wyrm Hookface that fought famously during both the Demon wars and the Elvin wars. His uncle is, a black dragon by the name of Dhrollot, tends to bully him and Gottrod usually seen sporting wounds from Dhrollot's "love" taps. Before we say anything, yes dragons can mate between colors. If a dragon can mate with a human and have various offspring, it should be very conceivable that various chromatic dragons can mate and produce young. So, Chromatic dragons and metallic dragons may have differing ideological philosophies, but they are the same species. Later in the story arc it is discovered the Jared is really Gabriel, a Mystic Theurge from a different dimension. Gabriel had traveled to Forena
