The adventurers enter the ice caves unseen, using the shaman's private tunnel. It is cold, but their winter gear keeps them comfortable as long as they keep moving. Fog limits visibility, but thanks to information provided by the shaman they know the general layout and are able to move decisively. Their first stop is the trophy rooms, where the dragon displays tokens of his victories. In one room they find the frozen bodies of many giants that Arauthator has slain over the years, and in the next room several other monster corpses. There is also an entire wooden ship on display, complete with a chest of gold and jewels on the deck. Jamna finds no traps, and Ulrik sees no magic beyond that which pervades the dragon's lair, so they take the treasure and move on. Next, they move to the tunnel which leads down into the depths where the dragon lurks. But just as they approach, two trolls loom out of the fog! Shouting their loyalty to Arauthator, they attack and manage to inflict some minor wounds to Lariat and more serious ones to Jamna. But the party regroups quickly and finishes off one troll, and severely wounds the other before he escapes down the tunnel. After a bit of discussion, the adventurers decide to pursue the troll. Sliding down the tunnel deeper into the iceberg, they find themselves in a huge cavern of broken ice, filled with icy pillars and outcroppings. It is even colder here, well below freezing, and the ground is slippery enough to make climbing difficult. Leading off into the fog to the north is a trail of troll blood. Using his flying broom, Malkior scouts ahead along the blood trail, and soon finds the troll talking to more of his kind. The party carefully positions themselves just out of sight, then attacks! In quick order, two trolls lie dead and the third is badly injured, though they do manage to get in a few hits of their own. As the adventurers close in to finish off the third troll, a freezing globe of thick fog closes in on Ulrik and Jamna. Just as they escaped it and move near Lariat, ice chunks rain down from the ceiling on all three! The cause becomes clear as a huge white shape comes gliding through the fog - Arauthator has arrived! The battle with the dragon is a blur of action. Malkior uses his magic to hold the great wyrm in place with an invisible hand, but he responds with icy breath that causes the wizard to lose his concentration and knocks Jamna out. Lariat moves to the attack, trading axe blows with tail and claw swipes. Ulrik heals his allies, and both the cleric and the wizard send fiery spells against the dragon. Less than a minute passes before Arauthator is in retreat, using his freezing fog cloud to cover his escape. Ulrik uses his magic to send messages to the dragon, trying to taunt him into returning to battle. But Old White Death is too canny for that, returning the message that the adventurers have won this round and are welcome to what they find in this lair. But make no mistake, Arauthator will not forget this, and when Tiamat rises he will rend them limb from limb!
