Ch. 30: Exploring the Great Hall and Servant's Dining Room

Dungeon Master (GM): We can have chandor snooping around the manor here or we can wait to bring him in when the party returns to Phandalin, the hunter's lodge or Conyberry.   Chandor Daltos: Either way is fine with me. Whatever works best.   Roqar: Last live group I had we tried 4e for 2 weeks, made our Chars played a bit one day next week played a bit next week come to play DM We are switching toPathfinder that was it   (From Chandor Daltos):  As part of my "weapon bond" ability, I'm going to say Chandor is bonded with his longsword. Not that it comes up much other than for flavor now and then.   Dungeon Master (GM): Pathfinder i have not played yet. When a couple of friends ran a module they made with their new company, Mischief Inc which has since folded due to infighting, they ran it using Castle and Crusades so that was the first and last time i played with that rules set. Hello Buddy!   Roqar: Alright so in front of the mansion   Dungeon Master (GM): Ok, so you want the party to head to the front of the place now, how about the rest of you. Or perhaps try another window? Chandor you can pick up any character that doesn't have a player today. Sildar is the NPC i control in the party   Chandor Daltos: Why not? I'll try the echo knight.   Dungeon Master (GM): ok   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Lets try going in the front door this time, maybe he will be a bit nicer"   Dungeon Master (GM): He, being the revenant that is Lord Taris Havenfall   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Gotta warn ya Its damn cold in there"   Xar'Tharkas nods, "Let's do it then."   Dungeon Master (GM): oh yes, right, the air around and inside the manor here is frigid.   Dungeon Master (GM): The double doors are made of a thick oak, that have now been splinted by damage. Each of the doors barely clings to the hinges which they were originally connected to. Trying to peer between the shattered doors just reveals darkness beyond them.   Roqar: Eimong will open the doors   Buddy D.: id like to enter with willie   Xar'Tharkas grips his glaive and follows.   Dungeon Master (GM): ok, as Roqar opens the doors they creak very loudly, alerting anyone inside of your presence. you can't see anything inside as it is totally dark!   Buddy D.: even for a elf? is it magical darkness   Dungeon Master (GM): Yes even for an elf, you'll need to find out if it is   Roqar: Can Roqar see into the place?   Dungeon Master (GM): no she can not see in the darkness, it’s just jet blackness to her   Xar'Tharkas mutters, "Seems welcoming..."   Buddy D.: looking to see who has detect magic   Dungeon Master (GM): ok   Buddy D.: Light evocation cantrip Casting Time:  1 action Range:  Touch Target:  Objects Components:  V, S, M (A firefly or phosphorescent moss) Duration:  1 hour You touch one object that is no larger than 10 feet in any dimension. Until the spell ends, the object sheds bright light in a 20-foot radius and dim light for an additional 20 feet. The light can be colored as you like. Completely covering the object with something opaque blocks the light. The spell ends if you cast it again or dismiss it as an action. If you target an object held or worn by a hostile creature, that creature must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw to avoid the spell.   Dungeon Master (GM): ok you can cast the light spell, that will last you an hour's time   Roqar: Roqar lights up a hooded lantern   Dungeon Master (GM): ok roqar's lantern's light does not penetrate the darkness inside.   Roqar: Roqar is going to take a chance that the darkness is only by the door and try walking in passed it   Dungeon Master (GM): ok, you walk in and it is still complete darkness beyond the door way   Buddy D.: does the light spell work   Xar'Tharkas seeing the elf enter, follows tentatively, "Don't stray too far..."   Dungeon Master (GM): ok, what do you cast the light spell upon?   Buddy D.: the floor in the room   Dungeon Master (GM): ok it lights up now.   Xar'Tharkas says, "Whoa...this place is big."   Roqar: (Is it still cold?)   Dungeon Master (GM): opps really that light only extends out to 40 ft from the doorway that box represents the actual light which should be a circular radius actually heck yes it's very cold in here.   Buddy D.: howdy sir who is this?   Roqar: Sildar I think
Xar'Tharkas looks about, "What's the plan?"   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Its damn cold in here my nips are hard we need to find the ghost"   Dungeon Master (GM): the darkness must be magical in nature if the lantern light could not penetrate it.   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "How about you cast that light on my lantern?"   Xar'Tharkas: (So he cast light on floor, right?)   Dungeon Master (GM): yes which extends out to a 40 ft radius max 20 in bright light 20 in dim   Buddy D.: does anyone have dispel magic?   Xar'Tharkas grunts, flexing his muscles while gripping his glaive, "I usually dispel the caster. Works fine."   Travok moves forward and casts light on Roqar's lantern.   Dungeon Master (GM): Prayn doen't have dispel magic ok you can do that   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "We need to find a way to light things up and find out about the ghost before we get frostbite in this damn cold"   Dungeon Master (GM): i'll just post the description as is, it even assumes the darkness was dissipated:   This large room is massive. Several large tables, now broken, lie scattered about. Pieces of armor and broken weapons line the floor. There are noticeably, three suits of armor on the western wall, northern wall, and eastern wall, all of which seem undamaged. There are broken paintings along the floor and tossed in the middle of the room. It appears that some fighting may have taken place here on top of the destruction this room suffered from the dragon’s attack. A deep crack splits the roof where portions are open to the night sky. The floor also has a similar crack along the floor.   Xar'Tharkas the Half-Orc Fighter Says: "This place is a dump. Reminds me of home."   Dungeon Master (GM): so as you explore around that is what you see in whole. you also find a couple pieces of parchment on the floor.   Xar'Tharkas the Half-Orc Fighter points to the parchment with his weapon.   Buddy D.: can we read them   Dungeon Master (GM): yes they are in the 2 handouts   Buddy D.: cool got them   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Looks like we need to find his wife"   Dungeon Master (GM): that is Roqar's lantern light   Xar'Tharkas points to the unscathed armor, "That's suspicious, no?"   Dungeon Master (GM): so more her about the room where you wish to have a closer look i'll mark doors with a X   Roqar: Roqar goes to check the suits of armor   Xar'Tharkas follows.   Buddy D.: i go with Roqar   Dungeon Master (GM): I marked the one you would see right now for sure ok that statue comes to life when you get within 5 ft of it!   Xar'Tharkas: Xar'Tharkas, the Half-Orc Fighter, gets ready to make an attack move! This echo is a magical, translucent, gray image of you that lasts until it is destroyed, until you dismiss it as a bonus action, until you manifest another echo, or until you're incapacitated. Your echo has AC 14 + your proficiency bonus, 1 hit point, and immunity to all conditions. If it has to make a saving throw, it uses your saving throw bonus for the roll. It is the same size as you, and it occupies its space. On your turn, you can mentally command the echo to move up to 30 feet in any direction (no action required). If your echo is ever more than 30 feet from you at the end of your turn, it is destroyed. You can use the echo in the following ways: • As a bonus action, you can teleport, magically swapping places with your echo at a cost of 15 feet of your movement, regardless of the distance between the two of you. • When you take the Attack action on your turn, any attack you make with that action can originate from your space or the echo's space. You make this choice for each attack. • When a creature that you can see within 5 feet of your echo moves at least 5 feet away from it, you can use your reaction to make an opportunity attack against that creature as if you were in the echo's space.
