Ch. 33: The Temple of Set and the Obelisk Grounds are explored

Dungeon Master (GM): Last week we left off after Xltixchuk and Maevis were talking about a trade goods deal Xltixchuk last say to Maevis, "So where do we meet up for the exchange of the goods? Along the Market Street? And on which day?” and that's where we pick up for tonight of course i'm sure no one has any idea what Maevis/Roxxifarius was planning! so you will have to improvise....You are all Pretending to be merchant traders and do not really have goods to trade but you have a connection to Rollo Bargman(sp?) whom is a well know trader and whom was looking into obtaining the Obelisk here in the city if possible. Pirates also want the Obelisk as well.   Dungeon Master (GM): So take it from there and see where we go   Lord Tendlore: So do I have remove my armor to pretend   Dungeon Master (GM): not neccessarily you are in a dangerous city Tendlore and Fenwe are still out on the streets somewhere...we'll have the party bump into them as they move around the city   Dungeon Master (GM): so you could basically simply tell Xltixchuk the day and time to meet up to trade the goods and then leave here. It is August 24 th at 4pm right now. You have an appointment to see Horan at his guarded compound at 1:30pm on the 25th, tomorrow. As a reminder you are pretending to be merchants looking for trade.   Lord Tendlore: Sound like a plan   Fenwe: Guys is this a bluff or do we intend to show up with something to trade?   Dungeon Master (GM): As far as I can tell it is a bluff as you have no trade goods whatsoever   Fenwe: Well in that case let's just have a smooth talking bard set up a date a week from now.   Dungeon Master (GM): that would be Maevis   Xilicien: Technically we have some food we could probably trade, wouldn't want to give up all of it though. Maybe even some cloth from somewhere.   Xltixchuk: Says, "so a week from today at 10:00 am then. Alright. I shall meet you then here at the exchange!"   Lord Tendlore: we can just say we have it stored for safe keeping until we come up to agreement   Dungeon Master (GM): that would be August 3rd at 4pm   Fenwe: Ok, that's settled. guys what is our current goal?   Dungeon Master (GM): ok aside of the obelisk I just mentioned you are roaming the city trying to get a good idea of it's layout and whom inhibits which part of the city. Whom is friendly, who the bad guys are. The baddies are the Yuan-ti, bullywugs, bugbears, lizardmen so far. You recently encountered gnolls guarding one temple.   Lord Tendlore: lets get moving   Fenwe: Right anything with scales = bad. let's go.   Dungeon Master (GM): You are trying to elimate the treat of the Yuan-ti whom are trying to spread their demon lord's reach around the globe so that he can come forth and rule over it....however thanks to a friendly Yuan-ti wizard you know that Sertrous intends to destroy everything not rule the world!   Lord Tendlore: if its evil, kill   Xilicien: The Oblivion Crisis, basically.   Dungeon Master (GM): ok, so looks like your business here at the exchange is done so let me bring up the city map so we can see where to venture next! Ok I pinged the party's current location so take it from there and decide where to go next!   Lord Tendlore: let hit t2   Fenwe: Sounds good to me   Dungeon Master (GM): ok, along the way you see a ranger type and a knight, in his armor in spite of the heat, looking at fruit to buy in a market stall Does the party stop to chat to them?   Lord Tendlore detects evil   Dungeon Master (GM): [If not the two can basically follow them, perhaps] upon someone in the party?   Lord Tendlore: on the ranger and knight   Dungeon Master (GM): that Knight is you though! and the ranger is fenwe so someone from the main party   Fenwe: Yep. You can never find fresh grapefruits at these vendor stalls.   Fenwe: It's the heat.   Dungeon Master (GM): one way to say something in character is to use the Say something macro   Lord Tendlore says dams worms in the fruit   Dungeon Master (GM): ok, Devin, you might want to interact with those two at the stall   Lord Tendlore wonder where we can get fresh fruit   Xilicien: Too squishy?   Lord Tendlore and seedy too   Dungeon Master (GM): Tendlore might want to detect evil on Xilicien   Xilicien: The uneven coloration on that one, over there indicates that it's ripe.   Lord Tendlore cast detect evil on Xilicien   (To Lord Tendlore):  Tendlore you detect no evil!
Dungeon Master (GM): anything more to say to each other? will the party continue on? will Tendlore & fenwe take to following behind them or will you inquire more about each other here and bring the ranger and knight into the party now?   Lord Tendlore: What are you doing here X   Fenwe: I think Lord T can make the call after his detection spell   Lord Tendlore: what is your business here in town   Dungeon Master (GM): I put the tokens down so you can use macros   Camlin The Half-Elf Ranger Says, "So you now can do this!"   Xilicien The Elven Magic-User Says, "Trade"   Lord Tendlore The Human Paladin Says, "who are you fellow adventurer"   Xilicien The Elven Magic-User Says, "Xilicien, and you?     Fenwe The Human Ranger Says, "I'm Fenwe. Nice to meet you all."   Lord Tendlore The Human Paladin Says, " am Lord Tendlore a Paladin, of the god Heironeous, argh."   Xilicien The Elven Magic-User Says, "Are you a Pirate?     Fenwe The Human Ranger Says, "A pirate? Does he look like one? My Lord is on a holy quest. I'm accompanying him."     Devin M.: I know we didn't do much, but I need my sleep. Goodnight guys.   Dungeon Master (GM): ok, devin! Thanks for playing tonight!   Fenwe: Nice meeting you, Devin.   Devin M.: +   Lord Tendlore: Have a good night   Dungeon Master (GM): we'll just fast forward here & i'll bring up the t2 area map ok so here we are in front of a temple in the style of the Aztecs.   Fenwe: Any obvious entry points?   Lord Tendlore The Human Paladin Says, "detect evil"   Fenwe: I'll look for tracks. How often and how recently was this place used.   Dungeon Master (GM): upon the one yuan-ti you see?   Lord Tendlore: yes   Dungeon Master (GM): he would be in range if you stood near the front gate the road here is well traveled you do see two cobra statues peering out over the walls here   Fenwe: Might be an entrance between those statues. Wanna go look?   Lord Tendlore ask fenwe if you want to scout ahead   Dungeon Master (GM): it is a gate   Fenwe: I'll go check it out. closed? locked?   Dungeon Master (GM): it is closed and you see no lock on this side   Lord Tendlore: Lets move up   Dungeon Master (GM): ok you can move the tokens where you would like them to be   Fenwe: I'll try the door. Maybe it'll open.   Dungeon Master (GM): ok as you go to try the gate the one yuan-ti you see speaks Yuan-Ti PureBlood #01 -T2 The Yuan-Ti PureBlood Says, "Halt! This is a sacred temple to our Lord Set! You may enter to worship and say your prayers."   Lord Tendlore The Human Paladin Says, "i will never worship in such evil place"   Fenwe: Hmmmm. Lord T won't be too keen on that. Check round back?   Dungeon Master (GM): [you can do that of course]   Fenwe: Hmm. What's this thing?
Dungeon Master (GM): it's a statue of a giant cobra   Fenwe: spooky. let's keep going. You know, a big ole temple is where I'd keep my obelisk. ...if I had one.   Dungeon Master (GM): [you know where it is it's visible but not here]   Fenwe: Oh, I see. So we are really just sightseeing here. Maybe there's a gift shop. I'll buy a Keep Calm and Giant Cobra T-Shirt.   Dungeon Master (GM): the back end is similar to the front with a similar gate here as well with one yuan-ti looking on   Lord Tendlore The Human Paladin Says, "unless we plan on breaking down gate maybe we should move on"   Fenwe The Human Ranger Says, "You're right. Where should we go?"   Dungeon Master (GM): I can bring up the city map if you wish to go elsewhere   Fenwe: Lord T can decide. I'm not super clear on our goal.   Lord Tendlore: neither am I Just guessing let move on   Dungeon Master (GM): ok   Fenwe: OK. Town map, please. Frogmen mound? DM, you said we know where the obelisk is, right? Where on the map? Thanks. Perhaps we should go there if the obelisk is the mission?   Dungeon Master (GM): yes i'll ping the Obelsk   Fenwe: thanks. whaddaya say, Lord T?   Lord Tendlore: lets do it   Dungeon Master (GM): Area description: You catch glimpses of the Obelisk area's crumbled stone walls and approach cautiously. Standing tall and clean in the center of the area is a large stone spire, 50 feet tall and 15-20 feet wide at its base. It reaches to within 20 feet of the treetop canopy.   The area around the spire is roughly about 150 feet across. The ground is littered with crumbled ruins and what little can grow on the rocky city floor. No trees grow within 150 feet of the base of the pillar. The stone ruins that you first glimpsed through the walls form a rough square around the pillar, about 150 feet from it. Some rubble lies within the area, but not much.   Fenwe: might wanna dust off the detect evil one more time, LT I'd like to investigate those ruins.   Lord Tendlore: do I detect any evil   Dungeon Master (GM): i just move you to a jungle area map to represent the ruins here where you can search around.   Lord Tendlore: ok this would be easier if we had one person who been playing for a while   Fenwe: oh dear, yes   Maevis/Quintolos: Hey :)   Fenwe: I read the abstracts of previous sessions, but I'm still lost   Dungeon Master (GM): No evil detected on the obelisk. Oh Hello Maevis! we are near the Obelisk area now   Fenwe: Lord T... I think you summoned him!   Lord Tendlore: your in your element on this map Fenwe   Dungeon Master (GM): I had to use this as the obelisk "Grounds" as there is no real map of it   Lord Tendlore: Let me check to see if I am a magic user   Fenwe: Yep. I'm looking for tracks.   Maevis/Quintolos: Maevis will check the obelisk for any secret doors   Dungeon Master (GM): i guess what i will do here is that every 10 x 10 spot you try to search you roll to see if you find something...there is rubble about so you may trip up here and there.   Fenwe: OK, is each square 5'? 10? This could take a while.   SEARCH FOR SECRET Doors or Hidden Items For Maevis Silverleaf the Half Elf Bard Search includes North, East, South, West Walls and Ceiling and Floor 1 search =  10  minutes (One 10 ft wall section) / Full Search =  1  Hour Results Whispered to DM   SEARCH ROLLS RESULTS For Maevis: North Wall:  1  East Wall:  2  South Wall:  2  West Wall:  3  Ceiling:  3  Floor:  1   Dungeon Master (GM): ok so let's keep it to 6 searches to make it easier i'll take the floor roll for the results   Dungeon Master (GM): in this case Meavis found something!   Lord Tendlore:  (To GM)rolling d6( 1 ) = 1   Lord Tendlore: brb dog need to go out

Might be an entry   Dungeon Master (GM): ok, there appears to be ruins below you, it's actually cleaner down there than up where you are standing, it appears to be a passageway.   Fenwe The Human Ranger Says, "LT, you out-rangered me." Can I get in that hole? Will I need a light source?   Dungeon Master (GM): by the way, you also can search 2 more patches of land   SEARCH FOR SECRET Doors or Hidden Items For Fenwe the Human Ranger Search includes North, East, South, West Walls and Ceiling and Floor 1 search =  10  minutes (1 wall section) / Full Search =  1  Hour Results Whispered to DM   SEARCH ROLLS RESULTS For Fenwe: North Wall:  3  East Wall:  4  South Wall:  5  West Wall:  3  Ceiling:  4  Floor:  5   cromth: rolling 1d6( 2 ) = 2   SEARCH FOR SECRET Doors or Hidden Items For Maevis Silverleaf the Half Elf Bard Search includes North, East, South, West Walls and Ceiling and Floor 1 search =  10  minutes (1 wall section) / Full Search =  1  Hour Results Whispered to DM   SEARCH ROLLS RESULTS For Maevis: North Wall:  3  East Wall:  2  South Wall:  6  West Wall:  1  Ceiling:  2  Floor:  6   cromth: i can’t get higher then a 2   Dungeon Master (GM): ok no one found anything you want a 1 ok one more attempt in the last spot of land here from each of you   SEARCH FOR SECRET Doors or Hidden Items For Maevis Silverleaf the Half Elf Bard Search includes North, East, South, West Walls and Ceiling and Floor 1 search =  10  minutes (1 wall section) / Full Search =  1  Hour Results Whispered to DM   SEARCH ROLLS RESULTS For Maevis: North Wall:  3  East Wall:  5  South Wall:  3  West Wall:  6  Ceiling:  6  Floor:  4   rolling 1d6( 5 ) = 5   Dungeon Master (GM): Tenlore roll a search do you also want to have another look at the passageway below?   cromth: rolling 1d6( 1 ) = 1   Fenwe: yes for sure.   Dungeon Master (GM): ok, let's see what he finds (To GM)rolling d6( 4 ) = 4   Dungeon Master (GM): he find what looks like some sort of wand, made of some sort of smooth shiny substance.   Fenwe: Wow. What a find.   Dungeon Master (GM): ok? back to the hole?   Maevis/Quintolos: Yes   Fenwe: yep. Is it dark?   Dungeon Master (GM): ok well, the sunlight is currently lightning it it appears it's seems to be about 15 feet down to the floor below
cromth: Do I detect evil   Dungeon Master (GM): down in the passage?   cromth: yes   Dungeon Master (GM): no evil detected   Maevis, using a glowworm, cast the DANCING LIGHTS Cantrip! Level 0 Magic-User * Evocation Components V,S,M Casting Time 1  Segment Range 100ft plus 10ft./level:  170 ft Duration 1 round Area of Effect Up to 4 lights, all within a  10 ft radius area Saving Throw Special Effects:  Depending on the version selected, you create up to four lights that resemble lanterns or torches (and cast that amount of light), or up to four glowing spheres of light (which look like will-o’-wisps), or one faintly glowing, vaguely humanoid shape. The dancing lights must stay within a 10-foot-radius area in relation to each other but otherwise move as you desire (no concentration required): forward or back, up or down, straight or turning corners, or the like. The lights can move up to 100 feet per round. A light winks out if the distance between you and it exceeds the spell’s range. Dancing lights can be made permanent with a permanency spell. Chance of Spell Failure (15%):  66 %   Dungeon Master (GM): ok you created the lights what do you do?   Lord Tendlore: Back to computer until the next dog needs out   Fenwe: Seems I don't own a rope. Is their a vine I can cut?   Maevis/Quintolos: Have them move around the passageway   Dungeon Master (GM): there are plenty of vines along the cliffs but you have to leave the city to go to the rim of the crater that surrounds it and the lake. there are some areas of trees in the city that have vines, the main party would remember especially in the park area where the tasloi are said to live. so someone attempts to climb down anyways?   Fenwe: Has nobody got a rope?   Dungeon Master (GM): on and vines also cover the area of the secret entrance to the city where the party came in.   Lord Tendlore: I think I do   Dungeon Master (GM): I would think someone does   Fenwe: Well, let's tie one end to something heavy and go. I'll go first if you like.   Dungeon Master (GM): grax has two silk ropes and a grappling hook   Lord Tendlore: I got rope   Dungeon Master (GM): ok, so as you go about trying to go down you realing something is blocking your way! you realize the ground there is solid yet you can see right through it! Also, as Meavis guides the dancing lights to follow Fenwe down he sees that they don’t penetrate through the clear substance!     Fenwe: invisible dirt?   Dungeon Master (GM): perhaps   Fenwe: Only the most evil fiends use invisible dirt...   Lord Tendlore: spell?   Dungeon Master (GM): hmm, ok i should note that during your searching of the area, in sections 1, 3, 4 and 6 you saw 4 openings as well that went down into the ground.   Fenwe: I guess we'll see if they are similarly blocked.   Lord Tendlore The Human Paladin Says, "lets look at another hole"   Fenwe The Human Ranger Says, "That's what she said, LT."   Dungeon Master (GM): oh and section six you did see an old human armored skeleton   Fenwe: Well forget invisible dirt, let's check out the knight.   Lord Tendlore cast detect evil on knight   Maevis/Quintolos: (Hate to drop in then drop out but I will be here next week Hope to play with you again )   Dungeon Master (GM): searching the skeletal remains didn't find anything of value other than some bits of unidentifyable bundles, nor was evil detected.   Fenwe: Maybe it's a good time to wrap up.   Dungeon Master (GM): Ok Meavis Thanks for stopping in!   Fenwe: I'm out too. Nice meeting you guys.   Dungeon Master (GM): Buddy did show but couldn't dget on it kept booting him out ok so we shall stop here then so thanks to you all for playing tonight!   Lord Tendlore: Might as well I am by myself   Dungeon Master (GM): ok then bye guys!
