With the dragon driven away, the remaining kobolds and other dragon-servants have no fight remaining in them. The adventurers find a moderate treasure hoard - clearly not all the dragon's wealth, which must be in other lairs - but as it is frozen under sheets of ice, it takes some time to collect. Some judicious additional exploration of the ice caves leads them to a more important discovery - the tiefling sorceress Maccath the Crimson! She had been held here by the dragon since disappearing several years earlier. Her quest to find the Draakhorn was unsuccessful, but she has learned that it is now held by the Cult. She and her ice toad allies are happy to come with the party, and they bring all the accumulated knowledge gathered from the dragon's plundered items with them. The Ice Hunters in the village above have seen the dragon's retreat, and are already packing up their belongings to leave. They fear to remain here in case he returns, but are happy to have this opportunity to find another home without danger of dragon attacks. The party follows their example and leaves the iceberg, taking ship once again and heading south to Waterdeep. On the trip home, Jamna comes to the party to take her leave. She has business of her own to conduct, but wishes the party well and may see them again if the fates are kind. After collecting her share of the treasure, she disappears into the city. Soon after, the adventurers are again called before the Council. The lords are pleased to hear of Arauthator's defeat, a solid blow against the cult even though the dragon survived. The return of Maccath is especially well received, and the Arcane Brotherhood in particular is ecstatic to have their lost sorceress back with an additional bounty of scholarly ice toads and dragon knowledge. The discussion then turns to current cult activities. Word from Harper intelligence agents, relayed through sending spells, has reported that Arauthator wasted no time in returning to the conflict. He has attacked Skyreach Castle and caused it to crash! Other reports coming from the Misty Wood have reported dragon attacks there also. A green dragon has been spotted, and rumor is that the wielder of the Green Dragon Mask is involved. After listening to the reports, the party decides that the more urgent matter is the crash. The fate of Skyreach Castle is of great concern for the Council, as an alliance with the giants will be of great value against the Cult of the Dragon. Little is known of the situation at the crash site, though the councilors do know the location and some information about a nearby dwarven settlement. The party agrees to investigate and re-boards their ship to head north. Skyreach Castle has crashed in the southeast corner of a large ice-covered island. From the information provided by the Council, they know that there is a giant settlement in the center of the island, but they first decide to visit the crash site. Travel to the crash site is slow in the cold and snowy terrain, but they reach the castle without incident. Skyreach Castle lies in a large crater caused by the crash, with the front gate and outer courtyard largely destroyed. The main tower and inner courtyard seem intact, but have been frozen into the crater by the snow and ice. It will take a major effort to clear the ice to free it, and additionally the magic powering the castle's flight requires repairs. The party is met by several ogres, who have been left to defend the castle. They are easily convinced that the adventurers are friends, especially when they drop the name of Blagothkus. But the limited ogres can tell them little of the crash itself, so they climb the giant tower in search of the spirit Esclarotta, who they remember from their previous visit. Fortunately, she remembers them as well, and it takes only a little convincing to learn from her what happened. After the party left the castle, Blagothkus had thrown the cultists off the castle, and even driven the white dragon Glazhael from the ice caverns below. Then he took the castle north, meaning to join with his cloud giant kin and prepare to battle the Cult. But these plans were interrupted when an attack came from two dragons! Glazhael and Arauthator joined forces with many cultists and mounted an attack, and with a force of only himself and ogres, Blagothkus was unable to fully defeat the assault. He did drive them away, but not before they damaged the castle and caused the crash! Blagothkus himself left the castle to visit the nearby storm giant hall, hoping to find help to repair the castle and enough giants to defend it. Armed with this information, the party follows Blagothkus to the frost giants. In the great mead hall of the frost giant chief Brunvild, they find Blagothkus trying to convince his kin to assist with repairs to the castle. Brunvild does not seem to be in any hurry to do so, but the adventurers offer to assist. The frost giant is intrigued by these small folk, though he doubts their ability to be helpful. So he sets them a task - retrieve the egg of a remorhaz, a kind of cold-loving beast prized by the giants as guard animals and mounts. If they can complete this task, he will consider their requests. After questioning some of the orcs that serve the giants, the party learns where the remorhaz nesting grounds can be found. As they travel towards the hills, they come across a lone remorhaz and watch it carefully. It stalks and kills an elk, then returns to the hatching grounds where many remorhaz roam. The hunter remorhaz enters a burrow, so the party follows stealthily. Inside, a long tunnel slopes downward into a large room. As they approach the entrance, they spot another remorhaz in the corner with several eggs. The remorhaz share food - a moderately disgusting process - then switch places and one begins to leave the cave. Quickly, the party flattens themselves against the icy walls and Malkior casts an illusion to hide them. The illusion holds, and the remorhaz leaves without incident. With only one beast remaining, the party decides the time is ripe, and moves to the attack! Ulrik and Lariat attack to draw the attention of the beast while Malkior uses his arcane hand spell to retrieve an egg. This plan works flawlessly - at first. Malkior grabs one egg, and the remorhaz is unable to follow since Ulrik and Lariat threaten its other eggs. But as Malkior begins to move out of the tunnel with the egg, the enraged remorhaz bites the cleric...and then swallows him whole! At the same time, the wizard notices that frost is forming on the egg - removed from the hear of its parent, it will soon freeze. Lariat continues to attack the remorhaz, hoping to force it to regurgitate Ulrik. For his part, the dwarf is able to cast a spell to sicken the beast, but afterward loses consciousness in the noxious innards of the beast. Malkior continues to flee with the egg, warming it with the occasional firebolt. Fortunately, it is immune to the fire damage, and the warmth is enough to prevent freezing. Combined with the magical illness, Lariat's efforts begin to yield results, and before long the remorhaz is noisily sick all over the ice cavern. Quickly grabbing her fallen comrade, Lariat flees the burrow before the beast can recover. The adventurers beat a hasty retreat before any of the other remorhaz in the area can come to investigate. Once at a safe distance, they are able to wrap the egg warmly, heating it with the flames from Lariat's magical axe. Ulrik recovers from his ordeal enough to make the trek back to the frost giant hall, a bit worse for wear but with their quest complete.
