Pointer Tool for both Players and GMs

It would be great to have a pointer that follows your mouse as a standard tool, so you can easily show and explain things without having to ping multiple times or draw on the map.
I use ruler as pointing tool as it is superior in ping in every way. Unless you shift ping, pinging may be outside of players' view but ruler's longer shaft is usually visible. With ruler, you can pinpoint the shown place way more precise than with a ping. Ruler stays in view as long as you need, ping fades away quite quickly. Ruler allows pointing out multiple points (or path or progression) whereas ping is limited to one. And list goes on. The only thing I use ping for is the Shift Ping as an attention grabber.
I also use the ruler as a pointing tool.  When using it for this purpose, it's unfortunate that the distance box appears over the arrowhead.   A generic "laser pointer" that fades over time would be really nice.

Something less.. obscuring would be nice, just to point things out or even emphasize something (e.g. an npc staring at the party by moving the pointer slowly towards them).
