Folks, So that I don't forget to mention it--and please spread the word to those folks who don't frequent this Campaign Forum--y'all earned XP for last night's Session 1 of what I refer to as "Episode 4" (to distinguish our adventures from the "Chapters" of the Eberron sourcebook in the Roll20 Journal). Perhaps, if the PCs survive the fight with the Orog war band, we can refer to it as "A New Hope?" Because there are many potential pathways in Episode 4, I'll be calculating and awarding XP after the sessions rather during the sessions in most cases. I really mean it that I want to reward roleplay and smart, strategic play equally to combat. The mechanics of D&D have never been very clear about how to do that. But if it's just as important and rewarding to play through a session of roleplaying, or to execute a non-combat solution to an encounter, as it is to defeat a band of Orogs, then the rewards should be similar, too. My notes say that the party is presently 4th level and (roughly? Exactly?) 3,000 XP from 5th level. Last night's session involved some great roleplay from lots of folks--and a special Hero Point award to Steve C./Thornduk for playing in character through some intense, personal scenes!  For playing your way through the departure from Sharn, the journey to Krona Peak, the meeting with the Iron Council, and the encounter with the mysterious lurking figure outside the Battered Helm, the group earned 500 XP each . That brings the party (whether this was previously exact or not, for simplicity's sake) to 2,500 XP from 5th level.   The good news? The group need only survive through about 5 more encounters to advance to 5th level. And really, 5th level is when D&D 5E characters really start to come into their own. The bad news? Well .... Surviving the encounter with the Orog war band--whether by defeating them through combat or achieving a non-combat solution--will be rewarded equally, as always. And the same will hold true throughout this Episode and the rest of the campaign. Onward! Koop
