In my opinion one of the biggest drawbacks of Roll20 is the inability to share user content. I have used a number of virtual role playing tables in the past including MapTools and Tabletop Simulator and all of them allowed saving a "game" so that it could be shared with others. As far as I have read this is not really possible with Roll20 content. Yes, I can share all the digital image files outside of Roll20 but that is only a small fraction of setting up a game in Roll20. It would still take someone else a considerable amount of time to re-import all the images, fill out character sheets, set up dynamic lighting, etc. The reason for not allowing this, that I have seen thrown around the forums, is copyright infringement. To me that is not a reasonable reason for not having this functionality. Anyone can still use copyright material even without this feature. It just limits the propagation of such material. But should we immediately stop the creation of any music players because someone might listen to copyright music? Should we stop the creation of all video players because someone might watch copyrighted video? No. The impact of using copyrighted material is with the user and not the tool (i.e. Roll20). If need be, have a checkbox during upload that attests to the fact that all uploaded content is not copyright. In such a case if the user does upload copyright material, Roll20 will not be held responsible. If I make a adventure that is 100% my own content using either SRD content or custom foes, why should I not be able to share that with other gamers? If the concern is stealing content for Marketplace paid content then don't allow such content to be exported. For example, when I played the Marketplace's Sunless Citadel module, I added some additional content such as an overview map, a map of the inn where the adventure starts, some NPCs used during the adventure hook, and so on. Others might appreciate those upgrades, so it would be nice if I could package these additions (but none of the core Sunless Citadel Module content which needs to be purchased) and make that available to others. It is a shame when you spend hours setting up your own module in Roll20, play it once, and then all of the hard work is done with. It would be so much nicer if you could share that hard work with others.
