I have to say I am a bit overwhelmed with all the games that are active online, but I also feel I am ill prepared to jump back into the online DnD community. My history with DnD was playing at my uncles house with his family when I was growing up (This was about 15+ years ago) and I haven't touched a DnD game since then. These days, being a disabled veteran I have a lot of time on my hands and was toying with the Idea of getting back into weekly sessions and really engaging my creative brain with immersing myself in a character. I have no idea where to look, how to even create a new character in the new 5E rules so basically you could consider me brand spanking new to the game. I don't know if folks comb these forums looking for folks like me to help get them into the online DnD world but I would appreciate it if someone could help point me in the right direction or even help set me up with a very new player friendly DM. I do always remember the DnD community being very new player friendly and I hope that hasn't changed much. I do have a mic, video and all the required hardware to run a game but do not have any of the new rulebooks or anything of that sort so any resources would be greatly appreciated as well.
