More chat options for players, please.

I would like the players to have more options in the chat window. At the moment, they have basically two: Either normal type, as the player or character name, or the /emote command, which can also be done as the character but most players tend to forget and their /emotes are as the player name, not the character. And that's it. We need more options, and I suggest these as some ideas: 1) /emas for players. To make it easier to remember to be in character. Would also be usable in macros, so the player doesn't have to remember to go down and switch the 'As' function every couple sentences! Could also allow those playing multiple characters at once to more easily distinguish who they are. 2) A version of /description for characters. Similar to the above in function, but with a distinct style. The standard text gets cluttered, and too much pink from emotes gets ugly. Give them a third option for specific, intense actions that are supposed to stand out from the rest; something that looks different enough to catch notice but not so flashy as to distract. 3} Bold , italicized , and other types of text. Again, to spice things up a bit. I sometimes want to be able to highlight parts of my macros, both as a GM and as a player, but unless I'm missing something there's no way to include this sort of function in a chat message. 4) As mentioned in another thread, the ability to whisper to the GM things that THEY THEMSELVES cannot hear... for example, let them make a stealth roll in such a way that only the GM can see the results of the roll. Sure, the GM can make that roll in secret, but you know as well as I do that the GM has enough to do already. Let the players handle this part of it. Besides, they love rolling their own dice, no matter how little difference it makes in the outcome. 5) Probably lots of other things I'll think of as soon as I hit 'Post Topic". -Phnord

In most campaigns, a player is only going to have one character to speak as. If they set themselves to Speaking As that character, they can then use /o or /ooc to speak as themselves without touching the dropdown. Not a perfect solution, nor one that solves the problem for campaigns where players have multiple characters, but it's an option.
Yeah, I know about the Speaking As dropdown, but speaking for myself that's not a very good option; it's too much trouble to remember to change it every few lines. In my current campaign, four out of six of my players have familiars or companions. One is also a summoner, likely to have control of a great many varied beings over time. Of the other two, one summons a spiritual weapon enough that I've given it its own character sheet, and one has a tower shield that, well, ok it doesn't do much but sit there. But still... that's at least one alt. for each of six different characters. So, yeah, maybe most players won't see a benefit from this. But I bet enough would to make a little coding worthwhile. This change would let them (and me) automate the 'speaking as' for each character, making it much easier to tell exactly which character is doing what. -Phnord

As I said, it's not a solution that works for campaigns where the players have multiple characters, but I doubt that's the most common case.
I'd like to second a /desc for players for a slightly different reason. Sometimes you want to describe your character doing something in such a way that having your name as the first word doesn't work well. For example, you might want to say "The panel on Cyrrile's arm begins to glow". Often times, these snippets can be reworded, but other times that just makes it more awkward. Similarly, sometimes it would be nice to add a modifier to your name (e.g. "Cyrrile's shadow wavers and fades"). In either case, "Cyrrile: and "Cyrrile " don't really work.

All of this would be pretty trivial in an API script, but I agree it would be nice to have expanded options.
+1 on this, yeah.
There is a blind roll script on the API forum that sends a roll to the GM only. I have it in all of the thief macros: /w gm Bob picks a pocket! ?{Who?|" "} @{pickpocket}% !broll 1D100
Aye, I'm liking the ideas of this, +1. Any more additional ways, no matter how small, to add to roleplaying in Roll20 is alright in my books. Also more ways to roll dice. Dice rolling is good.
I just posted something similar to this (Didnt see it, ty for the link).. the /emas specifically is needed.. Brian yes in most campaigns you are right.. but not all campaigns.. I feel that it should keep that in mind. I myself play two characters currently, and have to constantly swap between characters.. Also I think the /em should auto detect if the macro in question is on a character sheet.. to auto speak as them. I mean.. I'm not going to use my Eldritch blast from my warlock.. as my bard.. am I?
