It's difficult to tell without more information, but the most common causes are: A) You are not using a sheet that supports drag and drop (assuming you are talking about compendium drags). B) Procedural error in creating the default token. Here is the wiki article on Linking Tokens to Journals , and here is a video which demoes the procedure. If you post the steps you are trying and what exactly is happening, we may be able to give you more specific help.
I'm using the "D&D 5E by Roll20" sheet. I'm dragging the sheets that I've created from the Journal, not from the Compendium. But some of the tokens are linked, others are not, so I have to link manually. I know how to link, but it would save a lot of work not having to link one by one. I'm GM in a game my friend had created, and I don't have this problem there. Oh, and some of my handouts are marked green, what is this?

That sounds like your friend have done the work for you, as that is needed when new characters are manually created. Anything from modules or taken from the compendiums are made in advance. Oh, and some of my handouts are marked green, what is this? Maybe you have a browser plugin that adds custom highlights?
