Hello! My name is David, I’m
25 and I’m from Sweden, I’ve been struggling to find a campaign to join and
thought I’d see if I could find one this way. I’ve been playing a number of
different systems for several years now but I’m currently not playing in any
campaigns. I’m primarily looking for 5e campaigns but I am open to other
systems as well, I’ve played a lot of FATE, SWN, the Dragon Age RPG and several Powered by the
Apocalypse games. I enjoy D&D but I’ve had a lot of bad luck with it, every
campaign I join tends to die off around Lv 5 and as such I’ve never gotten very
far. As a player I love staying
in character and roleplaying with the rest of the party, figuring out what
everyone’s character dynamic is and having some fun banter. I enjoy doing
voices for my characters and making them feel organic. I don’t do minmaxing, I’d
much rather make a character that I find fun and/or interesting and I don’t do
metagaming. If I for some reason can’t make it to a session I will always
message you ahead of time to let you know, I would never intentionally ghost
someone. I’m currently in the CEST
(UTC+2) timezone and I’d prefer to play in the evenings but I’m open to
compromising. I’d prefer to play sessions that last about 4 hours, a bit less
or more isn’t a big deal but that’s generally the time I’d like to stick to. I
prefer smaller groups, I don’t tend to join groups with more than six players
as campaigns with any more than that tend to get very messy. Things I am looking for in a campaign and a DM No paid games – Bringing money
into a hobby just doesn’t work for me. I don’t like to think about sitting down
to play a game with some friends as a business transaction. If your game is
pay-to-play I am unfortunately not interested, this is not negotiable. No modules – I personally
don’t care for modules, I’ve tried them over and over again and have always
been bored out of my mind. That does not mean that your world has to be 100%
homebrewed, but I’d like to play with someone who made a campaign because they
had a story they came up with and wanted to tell. Starting from the beginning – I’ve tried to fill the spot of players who have dropped out of
campaigns that have already started several times and I always end up feeling
out of place. You’re missing a lot of context and you often just end up feeling
like a third wheel who awkwardly has to ask a lot of questions. I have a HUGE
amount of respect for players who can jump into any campaign and own it like it’s
nothing but I am unfortunately not one of those players. As such, unless it’s a
campaign that has only had one or two sessions I’d like to join one where I can
start from the beginning. Voice Chat – I don’t find
text based campaigns very engaging and while I don’t think there’s anything
inherently wrong with video it does prevent me from comfortably slouching like
a slob in my PJs while playing. A focus on story and roleplaying – While combat is all well and good and should of course be a part of the
adventure I do firmly believe that the strength of TTRPGs lies in the
roleplaying and character interactions. Incorporating Character Backstories – I believe that incorporating a player character’s backstory into the
world is a great way of both getting players engaged in the world as well as in
the other characters in the party. I fully understand being intimidated by or
exhausted by someone giving you a ten page backstory and asking you to keep track
of all of it, but there is plenty of room to compromise there. Feeling like
your character belongs in the world you’re playing in adds so much and I’d like
to play with someone who feels the same way. No Railroading – There’s a lot
of confusion about what railroading is and isn’t. When I say that I don’t like
railroading I don’t mean that a DM isn’t allowed to have notes or plans and has
to go into every session blind. To me, railroading is when a DM forces the
players down certain paths and actively prevents them from pursuing any
alternative routes. Railroading is when you’re not allowed to break out of the
dungeon because the script says that the mysterious stranger hasn’t showed up
to rescue you yet. It doesn’t matter that you succeeded on your lockpicking
roll, the gods have willed every lockpick you own to snap in half. This is what
I mean by railroading, and it sucks and makes everything less fun. No fake randomization – This is
a huge pet peeve of mine, I absolutely cannot stand when a DM goes “Let me just
roll on this 1d100 table to see what happens” and then you find out that it was
all pretend and that what happened was always going to happen no matter the
result of the roll. Either stick to the randomization or be honest with your
players, that this is something you planned out because you thought it was cool
or important to the story, honesty goes a long way. LGBTQ+ Friendliness – While I myself
am not LGBTQ+ I have friends and family who are and I find the notion of playing
with someone who believes such folks have no place in their world rather
disturbing. Acceptance is important and should always be a priority. Be aware of red flags – Every player
has topics, themes or events that just make them uncomfortable. Be aware of the
stuff that make your players uncomfortable to you can avoid putting them
through something that might ruin their campaign experience. We’re playing
these games to have fun and it’s always worth taking the time to find out what
would ruin people’s fun. I’d very much like to play with someone compassionate
enough to take the time to find out what to avoid.
If I sound like someone you’d
like to invite to your campaign then go ahead and DM me. If you want to talk to
me in person, perhaps for an interview I will send you my discord in a DM.
Really hoping to hear from some cool people and really hoping to make some new
friends!
