Problem with D&D 5e character sheet

When I first started on Roll20, everything was fine. Perhaps 6 months ago, the D&D 5e character sheet became messed up.

There are some annoying little issues, with the positioning of the words Inspiration and Proficiency Bonus, a slight shift to the Successes for Death Saves... but the main issue is the displacement of the third column.

The 3rd column of the character sheet - on the Core page and the Spells page - is displaced, so it’s down under the 1st column.

This happens in both the games I’m in.

Changing the page zoom has no effect. Changing font size and other similar browser settings has no effect.

This only happens with my laptop. It looks fine if I log in from my PC (but I don’t have a mic & camera attached to that computer).

In looking around for a solution, I've seen some other suggestions (for similar problems). Thus, I’ve checked for updates and other problems with the computer. I’ve found nothing wrong. I've cleared the cache. The computer is a fairly modern HP laptop, running Windows 10, and I'm using the latest update of Chrome. I haven't tried Firefox, but I don't use Firefox at all.

Anyone have any suggestions?

My guess is you permanently increased the font size at which Chrome renders.  Go to Settings.  Look for section called "Appearance" and check that Font size is set to "Medium (Recommended)".

EDIT: Should look something like this.

Heh. I was just going to post an update to say that changing the font size didn't have any effect either. It was at Medium, and I tried reducing it from there, to see if that would fix the problem. No luck.

Do you have extensions installed on your Chrome on that laptop?  One of them could be affecting the rendering.  Try accessing the site in Incognito mode.  That should by default turn all your extensions off (unless you have manually set them to be available in Incognito mode).

I do have a few extensions, but the only one currently active is for Tweetdeck.

I was hopeful your suggestion would work, but no luck. It looks the same in Incognito mode.

OH! I should mention that I hadn't noticed this having any effect the last time I tried, but I went into Customize fonts again, just before trying Incognito mode, and made the font size and minimum font size smaller (14 and 8 respectively, down from 16 and 10), and that fixed the displacement in the Death Saves Successes. So, that one's fixed. It didn't have any impact on the other problems, though.

Hi. Still having this same problem.

Here's a full look at both the Core page and the Spells page, with the problems highlighted.

"Inspiration" is displaced.

"Proficiency bonus" is displaced

The entire third column is displaced down underneath the first column. The third column of the Spells page is displaced in the same way.

Changing the font size of my browser only fixed one of the problems I flagged initially. In the Death Saves boxes, Successes was fixed.

One thing I didn't note last time, on the Core page, the bottom edge of the Proficiency block is cut off. Not sure what that's about. It's probably been like that all along, as I've been suffering these other problems. I just didn't note it as a problem until now. It might be symptomatic.

Have you tried Firefox? That will immediately tell you if the problem is Chrome, or a setting or extension within Chrome. That should always be your first step - isolating what is causing the problem.

I get the problem with the death save "successes" on Firefox on Linux, but not with Vivaldi.  I do not get that problem on any browser in Windows.

I have also seen the problem with the third column appearing underneath everything else, but I can't recreate it now.  I seem to recall that it only happened when I popped the sheet out into a separate window.

Alright, the problem doesn't occur in Firefox. It also doesn't occur in Chrome on my PC (as noted previously). I can't think of what the problem is with Chrome on my laptop, though. I don't have any unusual settings or extentions (and I'm fairly certain my extentions are the same on both computers). I even just reset Chrome back to default settings, and the problem persists. *shrug*

Alan - specific to your last sentence - for me it occurs when the sheet is in its original pop-up and when I pop the sheet out into a separate window.

If it's still happening with all settings reverted to default, and all extensions disabled, that's a bit baffling.

You could look at the scale settings in Windows - maybe something here will help? Laptop manufacturers love loading their computers with bloatware that can clash with other software. I can't think of any reason why any of these would specifically effect Chrome, but might be worth a shot.

The other options, I guess, would be to tinker with Stylus (could be a lot of trial and error), or to give up and switch browser.

If you right click the spell section that's in the wrong place somewhere on the level 6 spells header, and Inspect Element, it should open the html inspector to somewhere near a <div class="sheet-col sheet-col3">. Click on that, does it have any style settings in the "element" section? It should look something like this (this shot is from Firefox so it may not be identical):
