Ranger – High Elf – Willie Belson –  Buddy-D - Was at COVID-19 Auction for Vets   Game Summary for Saturday (09/12/2020):   Opening Scene: Day 13: May 22nd; 9:00 am   The adventurers had just talked to the gnome guard Pog, who told them that Fibblestib and Dabbledob are in the inventor’s workshop on the other side of Gnomengarde, across the rope bridge. Xar’Tharkas stays behind in the mist filled chamber with Pog & Ulla still upon the ledge 10 ft up from him.   The adventurers cross over the 35 ft long bridge which is 20 ft up from the water at the base of the waterfall. The waterfall itself drops 60ft and comes as close as 5 ft from the bridge on it’s east side to 15 ft away on it’s west side.   Roqar is the first one to cross over and the bridge is a bit shaky and dips 5 ft at the halfway point and she makes it over alright, so the rest of the adventurers, aside of Xar’Tharkas, follow her over one at a time over the rope bridge.   Once everyone is on the west ledge, they proceed up a 10 ft flight of stairs into a chamber lightly filled with mist. Galdor is in the lead and had to make a dexterity save with a Dice Challenge Level of 15. Galdor rolls and 8 and takes full slashing damage of 4d8=25 hit points from a blades trap that was spinning counter-clockwise, that reaches from floor to ceiling with blades spaced 1 ft apart, that Pog had forgotten to warn the party about! Galdor had noticed another set of blades to the south west that were spinning clockwise.   It’s Galdor, whom crosses back over the bridge, bleeding from the blade cuts, to tell Pog that he forgot to mention of the trap.   Roqar, checks for any mechanism that may stop the spinning blades but did not find anything.   Pog, tells Galdor, he was sorry and assumed the party was already told by the gnomes the adventurers had met in the kitchen area. Pog, mentions that there is a switch on the wall on the opposite side of the spinning blades and asks if anyone in the party knows the Mage Hand spell as that is how the brass lever is pushed upwards to stop the spinning blades.   Pog offers to do the task himself and crosses over the rope bridge, up the stairs and a the top casts the Mage Hand spell, and guides it over to the brass lever and raises it up.   Pog tells the party to go up a passage, then up the stairs, turn north and they should find Fibblestib and Dabbledob in the workshop and that there are no traps.   Once everyone is on the opposite side of the trap, and Pog leaves the room,  Dolores, pulls the brass lever back down to set the blades spinning again.   As the adventurers approach the workshop an argument in gnomish, is to be heard.   Galdor announces their arrival, “There’s 5 of us coming through, Pog and the kitchen staff sent us to find Fibblestib and Dabbledob or whatever their names were!”   The arguing halts after Galdor shouts out.   Fibblestib the Gnome Inventor Says: "Oh, We have visitors! Welcome! I am Fibblestib and this is Dabbledob here!"   The rest of the party makes their way into the inventor’s workshop, which is cluttered with half-completed gnomish inventions. Dabbledob the Female Gnome Inventor Says: "Oh, a Greetings to you dwarf"   Galdor the Dwarf Cleric Says: "Greetings to you too, dwarf child"   Dolores the Human Wizard Says: "Should someone test them...?"   Galdor the Dwarf Cleric Says: "We have heard about a shapechanger of sorts around here"   Galdor the Dwarf Cleric Says: "We have performed a test on ourselves, Pog and the one that doesn't speak Common" Says: "Shall we perform a quick test on you two as well?, Just to be sure."   Fibblestib the Gnome Inventor Says: "Oh, excuse us and the mess here, we were uh, discussing a way to cure King Korboz's madness, you see. Dabbledob wants to build a thing she calls a straitjacket, while I proposed a wand that releases a sanity ray."   Galdor the Dwarf Cleric Says: "May we perform the test or not?"   Dabbledob the Female Gnome Inventor Says: "Er, a quick test?! What exactly do you mean?!"   Dolores the Human Wizard Says: "Why do you seem worried?"   Galdor the Dwarf Cleric Says: "Just gonna cut a few strands of hair, along with clipping one of your nails"   Roqar:(I'm careful not to touch any of them)
Dabbledob the Female Gnome Inventor Says: "Well, why do we need to be tested? "   Galdor the Dwarf Cleric Says: "To determine if either of you are a shapechanger" Says: "We'll need to test the stuff scattered thorought here as well"   Dabbledob the Female Gnome Inventor Says: "Oh, ok, so what do we have to do?"   Galdor the Dwarf Cleric Says: "Just stay still and one of us will cut off a bit of your hair, along with clipping one of your nails" So umm... Who wants to do it? Fibblestib the Gnome Inventor Says: "Ok, do me first!"   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Sounds to me like your King may be the shapechanger." Roqar will do it Galdor the Dwarf Cleric Says: "I am deeply sorry for my party member's offense toward your King..."   Dabbledob the Female Gnome Inventor Says: "Oh My, I sure hope not, as King Gnerkli, could be food by now!"   Fibblestib the  Gnome Inventor Says: "No worries"   Galdor the Dwarf Cleric Says: "It does not really make sense if a King is holed up, is somehow a shapechanger, yet bad stuff keeps happening all over the place" Says: "So yeah, I apologize in my friend's place" Go ahead, Roqar Fibblestib the Gnome Inventor Says: "You see, our kings are locked away in their master bedroom and from what King Gnerkli has shouted through the door, King Korboz has glued him down to a chair!"   Galdor Brawnanvil:Let's see what happens Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Just trying to cover every possibility."   Fibblestib the Gnome Inventor Presents himself to be trimmed.   Roqar: Roqar pulls out one of her daggers and cuts a snip of hair first then a nail Dungeon Master (GM):ok, and no adverse reaction from Fibblestib Fibblestib the Gnome Inventor Says: "Alright Dabbledob, your turn."   Dabbledob the Female Gnome Inventor Presents herself to be trimmed now   Roqar:Turns to Dabbledob "Your next" Cuts a snip of hair and a nail Dungeon Master (GM):alright and no adverse reaction from her as well. Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Whats this about a straitjacket?"   Galdor the Dwarf Cleric Says: "Shall I check your inventions now?"   Dabbledob the Female Gnome Inventor Says: "Oh, a straitjacket is like a shirt with extra long arms that you tie in the back so one can’t move around as much and cause harm. You folks would not happen to have any ideas to help King Korboz would you?!"   Galdor the Dwarf Cleric Says: "In my opinion, we should get rid of the shapechanger problem first"   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Like I said, first check to see if he’s a shapechanger"   Galdor the Dwarf Cleric Says: "One of us should stay here then, In case any of the inventions are the shapechanger.”   Fibblestib the Gnome Inventor Says: "Tell you want, if you can help us deal with our Kings, I can give you a clockwork amulet and a pole of collasping, for your troubles."   At this point, Fibblestib and Dabbledob tells the party which passage goes where and the party moves on to find the King’s master bedroom, Sildar Hallwinter, stays behind.   Proceeding west up a 10 ft long flight of stairs, then turning north, going north east, Galdor comes to a door that opens onto a ledge with a pedestal with a large book upon it. The ledge is 10 ft up from the inventor’s workshop below it.   The book’s cover is written in both Common and Gnomish and says, “Magick of Gnomengarde” upon it.   Meanwhile, Dolores, went down a couple 10 ft long flights of stairs that curved north east into a chamber where 4 female & 4 male gnomes where sleeping.   The floor of this cave is strewn with the remnants of old campfires. Four side caves serve as sleeping areas, with five small wooden cots crammed into each one.

Galdor and the other adventurers, make their way from the ledge and turn north 20 ft, then west 15 ft, then north 5 ft to a locked door, of which Galdor, then knocks upon.   King Korboz answers, asking through the door, “Yes, who is it?!”   Galdor asked, “Is this the throne room?”, King Korboz realizing that the person on the other side may not a gnome due to speaking in the Common tongue.   Galdor, proceeds to tell the King that he is a dwarf who came with others and tells him of what they had encountered in Gnomengarde so far and how everyone is being tested to see if they are a shapechanger and have not found it yet.   When Galdor mentions, Fibblestib and Dabbledob, King Gnerkli, hollers, “What did they tell you!?”, King Korboz, tells Gnerkli to hush it.   King Korboz would not let the adventurers into the room, instead wanting some proof the shapeshifter has been found and dealt with. So Roqar, pulls out her thieves’ tools and begins tinkering with the lock   Dolores meanwhile, heads up the western stairs and follows the voices to where the adventurers are outside the door of the Kings’ master bedroom. Along the way she goes to the ledge with the gnome’s spellbook and takes a quick glance at it, happy to see that it is runed in both Common and Gnomish for all of the spells inside.   Roqar, rolls a 26, using her Thieve’s Tools skill, indicating she successfully picks open the lock and opens the door. She sees that it contains all the trappings of a nicely appointed gnome bedroom and sees King Korboz, standing near the door in shock while King Gnerkli is seen to be glued down to a chair!   To Korboz’s horror, screaming, “Oh my gosh! Did I forget to lock the door!? Noooo! Don’t eat me!”. Galdor, rushes in towards Gnerkli and quickly cuts off a strand of hair as Gnerkli, tries to jerk his head away.   King Korboz screams, “Oh my gosh! Don’t eat him dwarf! Stay away now!”   Galdor, snips off some more hair, this time Gnerkli doesn’t try to resist. The hair does not revert into another form of any sort.   Roqar, tries to cut King Korboz’s hair and he’s like, “Eh wait! No way! Stay away!”   Galdor runs over to King Korboz and attempts to grapple him rolling a 4 for an athletics check, while Korboz rolls an 18 on a Strength check, breaking off Galdor’s attempt and staying on his feet!   Dolores, then attempts to cast a Hold Person spell upon King Korboz, but with a Dice Challenge score of 15 Korboz rolls a 20, thus saving against the spell’s effect!   No Wild Magic effect happens after the casting of the spell.   Roqar says, “Somebody cut the little shit’s hair!”, King Gnerkli, could not help but laugh at Roqar’s comment!   This time Roqar tries to and successfully grapples King Korboz rolling 24 on an Acrobatics Check then Galdor himself tries casting a Hold Person spell! King Korboz fails his save against the spell this time only rolling a 9!   This also causes a wild magic surge in which Galdor suddenly sprouts butterfly wings out his back! (The Dungeon Master knows how long they can last. Movement speed is 30 ft.)   With King Korboz now paralyzed and held in place with a frightful look upon his face. Roqar, releases her tight grip on him and cuts his hair, which does not revert back to anything else.   Now satisfied that the Kings are not the shapeshifter, various pieces of furniture and clothing in a large wardrobe are cut or prodded, with no reactions. Then both Dolores and Galdor cast the Mending spell upon those items that needed it.   King Gnerkli, tells the party to retrieve a bottle hanging off of Korboz’s belt as it contains the solvent needed to unglue him from the chair.  Roqar takes the bottle and pours it on the glue, freeing Gnerkli from the chair!   King Gnerkli the Gnome Says: "Thanks folks for unglueing me here! I'll need a change of clothes I see and I desparately need to run to the bathroom! So, tell you what, If you find that shapeshifter, I think I can give you a couple of things in appreciation of your help!"   Roqar mentions why they had come to Gnomengarde in the first place, looking for stuff to help in fighting the green and white dragons she mentions to the Kings. (The Hold Person spell is kept upon King Korboz until it naturally wears off.)   King Gnerkli says what he had in mind to give the party could possibly help.   Dolores, brings up the spellbook she saw on the ledge to King Gnerkli, who tells her she can use the book when the gnomes are not doing so and to leave the spellbook there so others can access it, and warns of the possibly of wild magic happening when spells are cast in Gnomengarde.   After this, the party makes their way to the throne room where they see two squat thrones, made of scrap metal, situated atop a stone dais. They are checked to see if they are the shapeshifter and are not.   Dolores, makes her way back to the gnomes’ spell book, and looks over it’s contents, the spells inside are: Burning Hands, Detect Magic, Identify, Mage Armor, Magic Missile, Shield & Sleep.   The party makes their way to the Treasury room, which is locked and Roqar successfully picks it open with her thieve’s tools rolling a 25!   The treasury contains a jumble of gnomish gizmos, as well as loose gears, twisted bits of metal and other scraps that the gnomes use to cobble together new inventions.   Galdor checks everything in the room and Roqar tries listening for any breathing, after closing the door, but nothing is heard and nothing appears to be a shapeshifter in here.   The adventurers go back to the inventors’ workshop and tells Fibblestib and Dabbledob that their Kings are not the shapeshifter and so Dabbledob goes to the treasury room to get the promised items.   Dabbledob hands Roqar a magical Pole of Collasping:
Pole of Collapsing Wondrous item, common While holding this 10-foot pole, you can use an action to speak a command word and cause it to collapse into a 1-foot-long rod, for ease of storage. The pole's weight doesn't change. You can use an action to speak a different command word and cause the rod to revert to a pole; however the rod will elongate only as far as the surrounding space allows.   Then hands Dolores a Clockwork Amulet:   Clockwork Amulet Wondrous item, common This copper amulet contains tiny interlocking gears and is powered by magic from Mechanus, a plane of clockwork predictability. A creature that puts an ear to the amulet can hear faint ticking and whirring noises coming from within. When you make an attack roll while wearing the amulet, you can forgo rolling the d20 to get a 10 on the die (plus add on any modifiers). Once used, this property can’t be used again until the next dawn.   Meanwhile, Galdor checks everything in the workshop to see it it’s a shapechanger but no.   Then the adventures go test the sleeping gnomes, with Dabbledob waking them up. None of the sleeping gnomes are the shapeshifter.   After that, the adventurers head back across the bridge with Dabbledob coming along as well.   Pog the guard, asked if they had found the Shapeshifter yet and told him that they have not but have gotten into the King’s master bedroom and got King Gnerkli unglued from a chair.   The adventurers then head to the wine storage chamber, where there are 12 large barrels of gnome made mushroom wine. Four big casks along the north wall, four along the east wall and four tapped ones along the south wall.   Roqar, grabs a mug from her backpack with the intention of sampling the tapped wine, her reasoning that if it’s wine it’s not the shapeshifter.   Galdor tries to dissuade Roqar by mentioning that, there could be a rotting corpse inside any of them, (the Mimic’s last meal)!   Galdor, checks each wine cask, and when he gets to the last untapped one on the east wall, everyone hears a voice exclaim, “Ouch! Hey that was nasty!”   Meanwhile, Roqar helps herself to the first west most tapped cask, pours some wine and samples it, then draws her short sword at the sound of the voice!   Galdor whacks the same cask again and “Ouch! Hey, take it easy!”, is heard!   Galdor the Dwarf Cleric Says: "Dare I assume, that you are the shapechanger, that these Gnomes are so afraid of?"   Mimic Disguised as Wine Cask Says: "Well, ok, yea I can change shape, so I guess that must be me, yes."   Galdor the Dwarf Cleric Says: "It's just that these Gnomes are terrified of you, saying, that you keep causing bad stuff to happen, with even some people disappearing"   Roqar:A Mimic!! Galdor Brawnanvil:Shh- Mimic Disguised as Wine Cask Says: "Eh, well, one's got to eat ya know."   Galdor the Dwarf Cleric Says: "What exactly do you even need to eat?"   Mimic Disguised as Wine Cask Says: "Eh, well pretty much anything really. But I must admit the taste of gnome flesh, is quite satisfying to the palate."   Dolores the Human Wizard Says: "That manticore would've loved this... (whispers to herself)"   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Here I thought we were looking for a Changling"   Dabbledob the Female Gnome Inventor Says: "Oh my gosh! So you ate Orryn and Warryn ! "   Galdor the Dwarf Cleric Says: "Would you be interested in helping us on our quest, seeing as there are currently two dragons on the loose, wreaking havoc... If you joined us, we could promise you dragon flesh, along with whatever tries to kill us on the way"   Says: "I am currently just trying to not cause any fight to happen, you know"   Mimic Disguised as Wine Cask Says to Dabbledob: "Yes, I have to admit, they were indeed delicious."   Galdor the Dwarf Cleric Says: "Seeing as both parties would benefit."   Dolores the Human Wizard Says: "This one is quite honest."   Galdor Brawnanvil:tfw I just don't want anyone good to get hurt, therefore getting the help of a mimic to defeat anything evil... would be quite the help weeeeeelp
Mimic Disguised as Wine Cask Says: "Hmm, sounds like a tasty idea one such as myself can't refuse, can't say i've every tasted dragon yet!"   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "But, Can we trust it not to eat us?"   Galdor the Dwarf Cleric Says: "Everyone has wants, everyone has cravings, everyone has needs" Says: "Those can be surpressed"   Says: "The mimic eating us now would not be any beneficial to it" Says: "Sure, it would sate him for the moment, but it would have to keep preying on weaklings"   Galdor the Dwarf Cleric Trying to say not in a way, that would insult the Gnomes   Dungeon Master (GM):someone give me a wisdom perception check Roqar: 18 | 13 PERCEPTION (1) Roqar So Roqar's knowledge of such creatures as mimics tells her that this one here is a rare breed indeed as it is intelligent and capable of speech. Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Do we trust it?"   Galdor the Dwarf Cleric Says: "Having to prey on Gnomes and occasionally a few adventurers will get boring after a while"   Dungeon Master (GM):the mimic gives what Roqar perceives as an innocent smile Galdor the Dwarf Cleric Says: "How about you join us... You would get a variety of meat to choose from along our travels"   Dolores the Human Wizard Says: "I don't see why we should trust it."   Galdor the Dwarf Cleric Says: "Leading all the way up to a dragon" Galdor could be lying, Galdor also could be saying the truth Noone knows in such a situation, unless the DM decides, that I should roll Deception or Persuasion Mimic Disguised as Wine Cask Says: "Well, your offer does sound tasty, especially if dragons are on the menu."   A discussion is had by the adventurers on what to do about the Mimic.   Galdor the Dwarf Cleric Says: "So umm... My party decided on not letting you stay with us... They want to kill you instead of letting you live... Therefore I give you a choice... Live, by going away from here... Or die, by our hands......... I am sorry for even having to say this"   Mimic Disguised as Wine Cask Says: "Eh, well, looks like I will be going then, I will leave here and let the gnomes alone!"   Galdor rolls an Insight check of 25 so he thinks the Mimic is telling the truth.   Roqar follows the Mimic out Gnomengarde and down the pathway and watches him off until he could no longer be seen in the woods.   Dolores the Human Wizard Says: "We should've killed it."     Adventure Time is now May 22nd, at 9:00 am   And this ends the gaming session for the day, until next time!   The Adventurers’ Experience Points Earned This Session: Mimic (Disguised as a wine cask): 450 xp 450/ 5 = 90 XP each ----------   Grand Total Experience Points:   Everyone is at 3,252.84 XP  Level 5 reached at 6,500 XP!   Loot Found: Clockwork Amulet Pole of Collasping   Number of Sessions for current Adventure Module: 37th Session for “Lost Mines of Phandelver / Dragon of Icespire Peak” 09/12/2020 [1st Session start was 08/15/2019]
