[LFDM] Four-Player Group Looking For PF2e DM!

Hello there, and thank you for your interest! We figure it's best to start with things that might put potential DMs off: At this time we're looking for non-paid DMs, finding the general enthusiasm to be higher in such cases rather than the session just being phoned in. Two of us are gay, two of us are bi. While we're not expecting (or wanting) every character to lean male sexually, it's a fact that we'll joke and flirt among ourselves and likely reference such topics occasionally. With that in mind, we do want a diversive cast of characters. Different races, male and female 'leads', a mix of sexualities as/if it makes sense for it to be relevant (rather than shoehorned in), various skin colors among NPCs, and so on. We're wanting to play in the evenings, Weds and/or Thursday probably, from around 6 PM to 9 PM CST. There might be some give in this schedule, but probably not much due to when everyone works, gets home, or needs to go to bed for work the next day. We're wanting to play PF2e. We're new to the system and hoping to find a patient DM willing to work with us as we screw up. Though we're all old-hat tabletop RPG players, learning a new system is always a process. Ideally it won't be a large issue, but it's likely important to set expectations early--we're not going to know every obscure rule or be angling to min/max out of the gate, etc. We're wanting to play on roll20, with voice comms over Discord and without cameras. With roll20 in the picture, we're less about theater of the mind. If you're still with me, fantastic. I realize opening a thread to see bullet points can be kind of intimidating but that's not what I hope this came off as. Rather, we're trying to find the DM that best suits us and who will enjoy playing with us as much as we enjoy playing with them. Any one of those might be an immediate turn off for a DM so best to get it out of the way. Beyond that, let me give you a bit of information on what we're hoping to find, in no particular order and with no necessity to fill all such desires--this is more to just express things we enjoy. All of us are mature players and enjoy shades of gray and moralistic choices in our games. Political intrigue can be a lot of fun, and we enjoy a good balance of the three pillars with a big focus on RP and character development. Integrating our backgrounds and bios is always a plus, as well. Exploring either your own world or one of Paizo's and interacting with it is something we'd look forward to. Combat is a slightly lesser focus, but we still hope to find ways to be inventive and creative in how we go about it. Sometimes this may require DM decision making, such as 'Can we knock this wall over? How much force do we need?'. We're detail oriented and love really getting into the nitty-gritty of a system and setting. As far as genres and settings we enjoy, Ravenloft and Ustalav are both fondly remembered. From greater media as far as tones you could look at perhaps A Practical Guide to Evil, the Dragon Age series, or even Witcher for ideas; perhaps the linking theme being 'good people having to make bad choices for the right reasons'. Whether we run an AP or a homebrew is largely irrelevant to us, assuming even if we do play in an AP it would likely be edited a fair bit. Base building or crafting, defending against sieges, making decisions for larger forces, etc are all aspects we enjoy but are of course not required. None of this is meant to restrict or detract from a DM's creativity, but rather hopefully add to it, spark ideas, and give an idea as to whether we have enjoyments that cross paths. Regardless, thank you for your time and interest. We're looking forward to hearing from you. Feel free to post here, email me at Xurtan@gmail.com, or contact me on Discord at Xurtan#3484 and we'll get back to you.
I'm sorry you've had that experience with professional tables. I appreciate your clarity.
Baloo said: I'm sorry you've had that experience with professional tables. I appreciate your clarity. I'm oddly sorry too, it seems like an excellent system given the right DM and group. Perhaps we just haven't found that, but regardless we're hoping to find someone as excited to DM as we are to play--so far that hasn't seemed to be in the paid circuit. To everyone else, certainly happy to answer any questions anyone might have, as well. Finding the right group can be a process, we realize, and want to be that for a DM just as much as we want the right DM for us.
