Is there a way to add a race to the Compendium, specifically Merfolk?  If not, is there something in the marketplace that has a merfolk race that will add it to the compendium?

There is currently no way to add a custom or homebrew compendium entry. As for Merfolk, I don't think they have been presented as a 5e race yet (assuming you are asking about D&D). The closest would be Tritons, which are available through Volo's Guide to Monsters.
