[LFG] [5e] [EST] Old/New guy looking for a game

Hi, Don here. Looking for a persistent campaign group after 6pm EST but ending by 1am on weekdays or weekends anytime I was a massive D&D nerd in the 80's Played both the original and AD&D. Larry Elmore art on my walls. Much like in Stranger Things, me and the boys started getting GF's and the group broke up. Totally died off with the transition to college. Now I'm old (49) and don't care about being cool. Ten years ago, briefly joined a group playing 3.5e, but the DM was one of "those" who always had to be the smartest guy in the room, but wasn't. By the second TPK, I dropped back out. Recently my younger daughter discovered "The Adventure Zone" and asked to start playing D&D. Imagine my disappointment when AFTER I had bought all of the books, she decided it would be embarrassing to have Dad play with her group. (*sniff* Dad can be cool.) So now I need to find my own group. My go-to character is a Ranger, but I have played all of the original races/classes. Willing to fill any party role needed. New to 5e, but I've read through the PH and DMG. Resisting the urge to go through the MM so I don't end up meta-gaming. Have played persistent high fantasy campaigns, dark fantasy, mystery, Asian inspired, and sci fi.  Once did a wild west meets magic campaign. (Plate mail? Really? Meet my friends Colt and Winchester. Gatling guns are great for taking out dragons) No experience using roll20 and I'll have to set up a discord account if needed. (planning on doing that anyway). Once I feel comfortable in the system and with the tools, I'd be willing to be part of rolling DM duties. Outside interests: been watching a ton of anime since Covid hit. Renaissance Faire addict (yes, I have a kilt), crying about the diminishing quality of most video game franchises recently.  D&D Pet Peeves: Lawful Stupid clerics and paladins (I'm pretty sure your GOOD deity would prefer converts over blood sacrifices), DM's who mistake railroading for story-telling. Gnomes. (they freak me out, creepy little bastards.) Murder-hobos (unless it's an evil campaign, then it's part of the story if done well)
