Ch. 40: The Adventurers Meet the Wizard Torgel in the Needle Maze and Finally Get Out, Then Explore a Temple!

Dungeon Master (GM): Hello Folks!   Buddy D.: howdy   Dungeon Master (GM): ok so you guys can get underway here. I believe you all wanted to move out of the controls room and look at the other 3 rooms?   Lo shan : Yes   Dungeon Master (GM): ok so we move to the room to the east? Does balen touch open the door?   Balen: Yes   Dungeon Master (GM): you would need to activate another find trap spell as well   Chris M.: Done. Find traps   Dungeon Master (GM): Ok, Balen touch opens the south facing door of the room and Sheila's Find trap spell does not glow in the doorway so you are free to enter.   Dungeon Master (GM): Area Description: This storage room contains a stack of sheets of an unknown metal. It looks to be hundreds of sheets.   Balen: Is it vibranium? hehe Lets make shields of it or is it stainless steel?   Buddy D.: i wish it was vibranium   Dungeon Master (GM): well, it's silvery in color but you are not sure if it's steel or not, the sheets are thin, like 1/2 of an inch thick. you could search the room if you wish.   Balen: sure and how big are these sheets?   Dungeon Master (GM): ok 5 ft long each x 2 ft wide, will you try to pick a sheet up off the stack?   Balen: Yes   Dungeon Master (GM): ok it feels to weigh about 10 pounds   Dungeon Master (GM): the sheets may actually be 1/2 of an inch thick it's typoed as V32   SEARCH FOR SECRET Doors or Hidden Items For Coal Blackstone the Human Ranger Search includes North, East, South, West Walls and Ceiling and Floor 1 search =  10  minutes (One 10 ft wall section) / Full Search =  1  Hour Results Whispered to DM   SEARCH ROLLS RESULTS For Coal: North Wall:  3  East Wall:  4  South Wall:  4  West Wall:  6  Ceiling:  2  Floor:  4   Dungeon Master (GM): ok so Coal looks and feels around the room and does not find anything to be hidden.   Chris M.: I also know psychoanalysis and kung fu   Dungeon Master (GM): oh and 2 ft wide the sheets are cool   Balen: Not now but before we leave this place I'm dragging at least one sheet with me   Dungeon Master (GM): the fellow that worked with Chuck Norris had schools here. No only one remains open.   Dungeon Master (GM): Ok, anymore searches in the room from anyone else?   Balen: So Next room   Dungeon Master (GM): ok, just to be sure, no more searches in current room?   Chris M.: Search again kittens esp. camlin elf stuff   Dungeon Master (GM): 8 party members so basically you can do 7 more in the sheet metal room   Chris M.: move me to balen please. I lost him   Dungeon Master (GM): by the way so the spell doesn't run out i'll just have it that Coal searched the room while Balen and Sheila went to the next room's door   Chris M.: thanks :)   Balen: No traps?   Chris M.: ok. well ... it seems to me you tipped your hand ... did they find anything?   Dungeon Master (GM): This room contains a lush 10 ft tall tree and a pool of clear water.   Chris M.: balen? lets go back to tree?   Balen: Does th tree ook normal?   Dungeon Master (GM): Balen and Sheila, tell me what type of food are each of you currently thinking of? yes it looks normal and healthy   Chris M.: yeah. it gorws underground   Balen: Beef Jerky   Chris M.: Trees are generally good and helpful in D&D ... except for the ones that eat you   Dungeon Master (GM): ok as Balen is thinking of that a bud begins to grow on the tree.   Chris M.: Phicenta? Coal? you all good?   Dungeon Master (GM): what food was Sheila thinking of?   Balen: So its not a normal tree hehe Anything about the pool of water?   Chris M.: Soma   Dungeon Master (GM): it appears to be shallow.   Chris M.: food of the Gods   Dungeon Master (GM): ok well another bud pops up on the tree and grows   Chris M.: Did belen eat one?   Dungeon Master (GM): two minutes later both buds bloom open   Chris M.: ffs   Dungeon Master (GM): to reveal beef jerky and soma   Balen: Balen will eat the tree jerky
Dungeon Master (GM): ok and it was tasty and filling, no ill effects occur   Chris M.: well. we are all maxed out the only deficit is my own spells   Dungeon Master (GM): maybe go check the last room's door? before spell runs out   Chris M.: yeah   Dungeon Master (GM): ok   Balen: How big is the pool and whats it made of?   Dungeon Master (GM): didn't say but i just made it a 5 ft wide round one   Chris M.: You think loot grows on magic trees surrounded by healing water   Balen: last room   Dungeon Master (GM): Area Description: The southeast corner of the room, a massive golden throne sits in the alcove, facing northwest. Its seat, back, and arms are lined with plush velvet cloth. Sitting in the throne, apparently asleep, is a familiar figure, a clean-shaven human male with a hooked nose and short hair. He is wearing an orange robe and a pair of red boots.   Chris M.: Chec for traps. recast Move my token please   Dungeon Master (GM): ok well Sheila's find trap is not glowing so the room appears to be ok.   Balen: I ring the non magical bell   Dungeon Master (GM): ok, and the fellow snaps out of his slumber.   Chris M.: Sheila: Get up here you laggards!   Balen The Human Bard Says, "We may need a tongues spell if anyone has one or Comprehend Languages"   Torgel: Says, "what the hell?! Oh, who are you?! Thank the Maker you've finally come! I knew my king would not leave me to die of tedium and loneliness in this place. It's been so long, so long since I've talked to anyone but myself."   Chris M.: I am there   Dungeon Master (GM): I don't have a token for him actually but he is dressed in the typical garb a wizard would wear.   Chris M.: Ok. You see, about two years ago, I think, I set out by command of the king with a group of brave adventurers much like yourselves in search of this obelisk. We lost a few members to giant insects and spiders, but pushed on. Then we were ambushed by the frogmen, hordes of them. In the fray, I was forced to teleport out. Somehow I appeared here, next to the obelisk, trapped in the maze. I was trying to teleport home to get help. I don't know what went wrong. And my spell book...it's gone. I must have lost it in the battle."   Sheila: Says, “Ok You (Torgel) are a liar. We are not going to free you. You are evil.”   Dungeon Master (GM): the fellow says, "I am Torgel and no Mame I am not lying."   Sheila: Says “You lost your spell Book? boo hoo. You are a liar if I ever saw one. What happened? Idiot.”   Balen The Human Bard Says, "Can you tell us anthing more about ths plce?"   Dungeon Master (GM): you guys notice that the tips of two of his fingers are missing, cut cleanly off like a light sabre would do.   Chris M.: keep going Balen   Balen: (Think it maybe about time to change batteries in my keyboard)   Chris M.: Otherwise i'll waterboard him It's not torture. It's low impact   Buddy D.: ive been waterboarded in real life it sucks balls   Torgel: Says, "I have not ventured far due to traps that zap you, (Wiggles his two fingers with the missing tips out for you to see.) Now, I am just bored to death and want to get the hell out of here." Balen The Human Bard Says, "The key to getting out of here is in the room with all the levers"   Sheila: Says, “Um. Balen? His story is so lame, he's pathetic.”   Torgel: Says, "Oh that room, I have dared not try to mess with it after this accident, (wiggles his two fingers again for you to see.)   Sheila: Says to wizard idiot: “How may men and women came in w/ you and what was their fate? We don't need you and I don't know how you feed yourself. But wigging fingers? what happened to your Party?”   Torgel: Says, "There were 8 of us. Some like I mentioned got killed by giant insects and spiders, others by frogmen. If any survived I do not know as I got mis-teleported here into the maze somehow."   Sheila: Says, “By the way. You might be a genius, but you are a complete dolt. Giant stuff of which there is nothing in this maze? Where were you when this happened and how come you can't move?”   Torgel: Says, "Oh the food tree and pool of water in the one room provided me with food and drink. Both must be magical in nature, because all you need to do is think of what you are hungry for and the tree buds and then flowers your meal, and the water never runs out.
Sheila: Says, “So you can move?” &nbsp; Torgel: Says, “Though I am running out of places to take a dump and not stink up the center area here.”, "Well yes, my lady, &nbsp;I just simply dozed off. You see this chair at least has some comfy padding on it." &nbsp; Sheila: Says, “Balen? Your decision now, I'm done with the interrogation.” &nbsp; Camlin: Says, “Can we kill him...joking.” &nbsp; Balen: Says, "Well, Looks like we are your best way out, come on with us back to the levers and we need to figure out how to turn the traps off. Its our best chance to get out of here" &nbsp; Camlin : Says, “Seems like he will lead us on a wild goose chase.” &nbsp; Torgel: Says, "I was sent here by the King of Thyasis, my group arrived here via a merchant ship owned by the merchant Rollo Bargman. &nbsp; Camlin: Says, “Torgel how long have you been in here?” &nbsp; Torgel: Says, "Very well, I will watch and see what you do, in that control room.", "Oh, uhmm, at least two years is my best guess." &nbsp; Balen: We may know who the King is and it was Rollo that we are working for. &nbsp; Camlin: Says, “Maybe he can get us off this wretched place.” &nbsp; Chris M.: To Buddy:he might be a random donor &nbsp; Buddy D.: true &nbsp; Dungeon Master (GM): [Rolo was the merchant whom got you onto the isle of Dread and also offered you the job of looking into the Obelisk. I cannot &nbsp; Dungeon Master (GM): back &nbsp; Chris M.: make fool memorize spells &nbsp; Torgel: Says, "So the jester fellow, is a wizard too and from the looks of it that elf follow is a wizard like me." &nbsp; Balen: we fiddle with the levers with sheila watching the nearest trap &nbsp; Dungeon Master (GM): ok let me see here i believe you turned on the controls again by pushing the north wall toggle switch to the up position? &nbsp; Dungeon Master (GM): Buttons There are 80 buttons, 20 per row, two rows per wall When you flip on the switch: The south and west (outer) walls of the room light up, showing a phantasmal image of the entire maze from above, &nbsp; Many of the doors on the map are lit with a green light. &nbsp; Balen: Hehe No offense but, um can we just get the fuck out?? hehe &nbsp; Dungeon Master (GM): ha ha! &nbsp; Chris M.: Ok that new NPC stays near belen. Ok or he has me to answer to &nbsp; Buddy D.: i agree balen lol ha ha &nbsp; Dungeon Master (GM): the main switch on the east wall is in the up position currently. It was when you pushed it down the flashing text appeared on screen that no one can read. There are 2 smaller levers on the north and east walls they are all currently in the UP position so take your pick and see what happens &nbsp; Chris M.: You move up or I w/ kick you half to death! move that NPC token or not &nbsp; Dungeon Master (GM): just tell me north wall left lever or right lever or east wall left lever or right lever or press a button &nbsp; Chris M.: The new NPC wizard has to stay w/ balen My token vanished &nbsp; Balen: I want Sheila to stand by that trap and shout when it goes ff &nbsp; Buddy D.: i accidently moved it sorry bro &nbsp; Dungeon Master (GM): ok yea her find trap spell will stop glowing &nbsp; Chris M.: Done, balen Ok. So fool is not moving? You have the two smaller levers on the east wall now. &nbsp; Balen: For Sheila, Did the trap that she is watching turn off? &nbsp; Dungeon Master (GM): the trap did not turn off yet &nbsp; Balen: East wall left lever pull it down &nbsp; Dungeon Master (GM): ok and you see that more red lights now show up on the map, including where Sheila is watching the trap. &nbsp; Balen: East Wall Right lever pull it down &nbsp; Dungeon Master (GM): ok now all of the red lights that the previous lever lit up are now all off and Sheila's find trap spell no longer glows for that passageway she is watching! the large switch on the east wall is in the UP position &nbsp; Chris M.: I dont know if the trap turned off. But i want that new NPC to understand that he is on point &nbsp; Balen: So the trap Sheila was watching turned off? &nbsp; Dungeon Master (GM): yep it certainly appears so &nbsp; Chris M.: Did it? How is the fool? I need to settle that &nbsp; Balen: Says, “Ok I think its safe to get out now Sheila Lets get going" &nbsp; Chris M.: No. i need to see the fool on point &nbsp; Dungeon Master (GM): you don't want to see what that last big switch does? you don't have to of course &nbsp; Balen: We need Sheila up front to make sure there are no traps &nbsp; Chris M.: No. I want to see fool on point and submissive levers can wait, imho &nbsp; Balen: Yeah sure What does the big east switch do? &nbsp; Dungeon Master (GM): ok, and will shiela move up to where coal is to see the other trapped spot? &nbsp; Balen: Sure &nbsp; Dungeon Master (GM): ok, and the spell does not glow there now! &nbsp; Chris M.: is anybody subdueing the fool? &nbsp; Dungeon Master (GM): no trap glowing there either now &nbsp; Chris M.: I guess i w/ have to do it myself &nbsp; Balen: Says, “Alright time to GTFO!!” Balen is dragging a sheet of that metal with him &nbsp; Dungeon Master (GM): ok, you do make your way back to the way you entered the maze! &nbsp; Buddy D.: heck yeah &nbsp; Chris M.: I hit fool w/ staff of striking +3 &nbsp; Dungeon Master (GM): is that fool the jester Balen or Torgel? &nbsp; Chris M.: You people are wimps.
