Belle Venture), and August 27th, 6:00 am on day 29 on the isle. The adventurers move out of the control room where there were
levers and switches, button and dials on two walls and a holographic map of the
maze comes up on two others, curious to see what the other 3 rooms that are
around the obelisk have inside. They go to the room off the south east corner of the obelisk.
Balen touch opens one of two doors and Sheila’s Find Trap spell does not glow
in the doorway so they enter. Inside is a stack of 300 metal sheets, that measures 5 ft x 2 ft
in size by ½ inch thick. Balen picks one up and it feels to be about 10 pounds
in weight. As that is going on Coal searches the room for about an hour,
looking and feeling for a secret door or hidden object but does not find one. Balen and Sheila moves to the next room that is off the north
east corner of the obelisk. After touch opening the door which slides down into
the floor, Sheila’s Find Traps spell does not glow so this room is entered to
find that it contains a lush 10 ft tall tree and a 5 ft wide pool of clear
water. The tree begins to sprout out two buds upon and and when it
flowers beef jerky is in one, two minutes later, and what looks to be (pain) pills
from an apothecary sprout from another. It turns out that these were the food
the two were thinking of when looking at the tree. Balen has a closer look at the pool of water, of which he can
tell is shallow. Balen has a taste of the jerky and it was tasty and filling,
no ill effects having occurred. Balen and Sheila then go, have a look at the room on the north
west side of the obelisk. Once touch opened and with no glow from the find trap
spell, both enter the room and see the following: In the south east corner of the room, a massive golden throne
sits in the alcove, facing north west. Its seat, back and arms are lined with
plush velvet cloth. Sitting in the throne, apparently asleep, is a familiar
figure, a clean-shaven human male, with a hooked nose and short hair. He is
wearing an orange robe and a pair of red boots. Balen decides to ring the non-magical bell to wake him up and
the figure snaps out of his slumber. Torgel says, “What the hell?! Oh, who are you?! Thank the Maker
you’ve finally come! I knew my king would not leave me to die of tedium and
loneliness in this place. It’s been so long, so long since I’ve talked to
anyone but myself.” Balen says, “We need to get out of here quickly. Can you help
us?” Torgel
says, “Yes, yes, I can try to help you.”, “You see, about two years ago, I think,
I set out by command of the king with a group of brave adventurers much like yourselves
in search of this obelisk. We lost a few members to giant insects and spiders,
but pushed on. Then we were ambushed by the frogmen, hordes of them. In the
fray, I was forced to teleport out. Somehow I appeared here, next to the
obelisk, trapped in the maze. I was trying to teleport home to get help. I don't
know what went wrong. And my spell book...it's gone. I must have lost it in the
battle." Sheila
says, “You are a liar. We are not going to free you. You are evil.” Torgel
says, “My name is Torgel and no Mame, I am not lying.” Sheila
says, “You lost your spell book? Boo Hoo. You are a liar if I ever saw one.
What happened idiot?” Balen
says, “Can you tell us anything about this place?” Torgel
says, “I have not ventured far due to traps that zap you, (Wiggies his two
fingers with the missing tips out for you all to see.), So I have stayed,
within the center of the maze here, sorry if it smells a bit in the maze.” Torgel
says, “For about the first year here, I have tried to use the time to meditate
and contemplate. Now, I am just bored to death and want to get the hell out of
here.” Balen
says, “The key to getting out of here is the room with all the levers.” Sheila
says, “Um. Balen? His story is so lame, he’s pathetic.” Torgel
says, “Oh that room, I have dared not try to mess with it, after this accident,
(wiggles his two fingers again for all to see.)” Sheila
says, “How many men and women came in with you and what was their fate? We don’t
need you and I don’t know how you feed yourself. But wiggling fingers? What happened
to your party?” Torgel
says, “There were 8 of us. Some like I mentioned got killed by giant insects
and spiders, others by frogmen. If any survived I do not know as I got
mis-teleported here into the maze somehow.” Sheila
says, “By the way, You might be a genius, but you are a complete dolt. Giant
stuff of which there is nothing in this maze? Where were you when this happened
and how come you can’t move?” Torgel
says, “Oh the food tree and pool of water in the one room, provided me the food
and drink. Both must be magical in nature, because all you need to do is think
of what you are hungry for and the tree buds and then flowers your meal, and
the water never runs out.” Torgel
says, “Though I am running out of places to take a dump and not stink up the
center area here. Well yes my lady, I just simply dozed off. You see this chair
at least has some comfy padding on it.” Sheila
says, “Balen? Your decision now, I’m done with the Interrogation.” Camlin
says, “Can we kill him…joking.” Balen
says, “Well, looks like we are your best way out, come on with us back to the
levers and we need to figure out how to turn the traps off. It’s our best
chance to get out of here.” Camlin
says, “Seems like he will lead us on a wild goose chase.” Torgel
says, “I was sent here by the King of Thyasis, my group arrived here via a
merchant ship owned by the merchant Rollo Bargman.”, “Very well, I will watch
and see what you do in the control room.” Camlin
says, “Torgel, how long have you been in here?” Torgel
says, “Oh, uhmm, at least two years is my best guess.” Camlin
says, “Maybe he can get us out of this wretched place.” Rolo
Bargman, was the merchant whom got the party onto the Isle of Dread and also
offered you the job of looking into the obelisk. He wants it for the King
before the pirates try to take it. Balen
says, “I hope Rollo is still waiting for us when we finally get out and back.” The
party makes their way back to the control room with Torgel in tow. Sheila is
told to go near a location where a trap is known to be with her Find Traps
spell active and to holler when the trap turns off or back on. When
Balen flips the big switch up on the north wall, it activates the holographic
maze map on the west and south walls. Many of the doors are lit with green
lights. The big switch on the east wall is in the up position. Previously when
you pushed it down, the message in a foreign language flashed on and off on the
maze map. Meanwhile
Phicenta, tries to scare Torgel with an illusion of a poisonous snake, while
Rown tries to cast a Command spell on Torgel and Torgel was able to save
against all 3 spells! So none of them effect him!
Balen
then pulls down the left lever of the two smaller ones on the north wall, which
then returns to the up position. This results in all of the door locations now
glow in red, instead of green.
