The party approaches the group of elves, who look nervous and frightened, but nonetheless one of them comes forward in welcome. This is Lethan, a leader from one of the villages destroyed by the dragon. He is suspicious at first, but Ulrik is able to convince him that despite the adventurers' cultist disguise, they mean no harm. Lethan is happy to tell them what he knows, though he will take no overt action while the dragon remains a threat. From each of his victories, Chuth has taken a few prisoners, bringing them here and tormenting them. He regularly forces them to fight cultists, breathe poison gas, and listen to his rantings about Tiamat and the horrors to come when she has returned. The captives know little about the layout of the lair, having been forced to stay in one corner under pain of death. Lethan is able to point them to one useful area - a small shrine to the goddess Eldath, patron deity of waterfalls. The cult avoids the area, unwilling to risk her anger. Ulrik's knowledge of the pantheon of good deities allows him to make the appropriate invocation of her blessing. In response, the entire party is endowed with the ability to breathe water for a full day! Thanks to Lethan, the adventurers know that the dragon uses the pool in the east part of the cavern to come and go, so they make use of their water breathing to explore it. To the southeast, they find an underwater tunnel that leads to another large cavern. Emerging from the water, they notice many bones strewn about, remnants of the meals of a large carnivore. Soon this is confirmed to be Chuth himself, as the dragon speaks to them from his perch on the other side of the cavern! Chuth taunts the adventurers, asking why they had come to his lair only to die. They reply bravely, but the dragon is unfazed and calls to his partner and rider, the exiled elf prince Neronvain. Chuth tries to appeal to Lariat as a fellow draconic being, but seeing that this is futile, he moves to the attack! The battle is soon joined with Lariat in the fore, Ulrik moving to support, and Malkior using his magic to flicker in and out of existence while casting spells. The enemies attack first with their mightiest poison weapons, but thanks to the party's preparation before entering the lair, this has no effect! The counterattack is swift and deals heavy wounds to both Neronvain and Chuth. But the tide turns as a swarm of cultists emerge from the north, surrounding both Lariat and Ulrik. The many sword attacks hack through even the heavy armor of the adventurers, and combined with the continued attacks from Chuth, their endurance runs low. Malkior is able to defeat several cultists and even Neronvain, with fireballs and a fist of pure force. Chuth flees to the pool, but the cultists prove too many, and both the fighter and cleric are swarmed under. Malkior comes to their aid, but before he can revive them, Chuth re-emerges and strikes him down. You awake to find yourself tied spread-eagle to the wall of the cavern, in the southwest corner on an open bluff overlooking the pool. Your belongings are piled in front of you in some sort of trophy display. In the cavern below are a group of about a dozen terrified-looking elves, and hovering over the pool is the green dragon who bested you. "Behold the mighty adventurers who would challenge Chuth!" sneers the dragon in your direction. "None can withstand my might." He addresses the cowering crowd. "Never doubt that I am your master, now and forever." He bends his neck down and speaks to the crowd, too quietly for you to hear. Several of them climb up onto the bluff, and pick up some of your weapons. "Thus fall all my enemies!" roars Chuth. Shaking with fear, the elves approach you. Some are crying, and others choke out apologies in voices too low for the dragon to hear. Lethan, better composed than the others, shakes his head. "If only you had come when he was not at home!" They lift the weapons, and the last you see is the blades descending.
