New group? Light-hearted, beginner/intermediate

My name's Rich. I live in Southern California. Looking to join, or create a group. I've only test-played on Roll20. I was playing in-person games this past year and a half. Up until Covid. Actually played in 4 different campaigns. I kinda want to learn to DM. Or else, it would be fun to practice game-building, or brainstorm world-building, or creating improvisation games. I played a couple one-shots where we rolled completely random characters, and the DM even rolled dice to make up elements of the campaign as we went. It was surprisingly fun. Otherwise, any existing games, or start-up groups, that need more players, I'd like to at least try it out, if not become a regular player.

I've been skimming through some wikis and dndbeyond trying to get a grasp on the rules and lore of dungeons and dragons, though I get the feeling it'll make more sense once I put what I'm reading into practice. hey man, I think your Idea sounds fun. It would help a whole lot to me and other people reading this if you specify what times you're looking to play and time zones. I am running various one-shots (just did a Monster of the Week).  If you are interested (fantasy rpgs are on coming up on my to do list) I plan to do some others.  Oh I should add is DND 5E the only system you wanted?   I've been running games for over 40 years. Hello,  I'm part of a group of ppl enjoying al sorts of different TTRPG systems mostly based in Europe. We have different games al troughout the week and would love to have you! We have a discord group where we hang out and sometimes even have out of the blue session if we have enough ppl around. currently we have a pathfinder game, a dragon age game and system we are creating and testing we also often run one-shots for ppl to try out systems to see if they like them! Hi everyone. Thanks for your replies. I'm only looking to play DnD 5e. And I'm hoping to find people in the Pacific Time Zone. I am fairly flexible with days and times of the week.  I like the idea of one-shots. Maybe even rotating DMs. I also like the idea of just about anyone teaching me to DM - even if it's just talking on the phone! I wouldn't mind trying to DM a game with completely new players to DnD. And I'm tempted to take someone up on Lost Mines of Phandelver... Rich

Hey Rich, if you want to DM a game I can play in it and help coach you up on being a good DM. Until then my advice is be flexible with the story, not with the rules.
