Tim M. said: Would it save Barbara anything if Erasmus and Jyrdani were to bunk together? He would be appreciative of a bed large enough to share. ;)  No, it wouldn't save Barbara anything, the Festhall is not short of beds :p - however Barbara is happy to assign Erasmus & Jyrdani a large double room on the upper floor. She reclaims her old room for herself & Norrin, and suggests that Erasmus & Jyrdani take Gurzun's old room next door, equally luxurious.
Erasmus is grateful for her generosity.  Erasmus is still not quite ready for reenacting the Kama Sutra with Jyrdani, but is working through his issues.
Bracers of Defence are actually more a Monk item, their formula known to the Yellow Rose. Once Erasmus reaches the rank of Master (5th level) he could potentially go to the Monastery and craft a pair himself. You'd then need a fine set of bracers, probably using 500gp of mithril, which Fraener could craft for you (or you could buy them for 1000gp), plus 2000gp worth of arcane reagants. Tim M. said: Simon N. said: Forge Priests have a class power to make one of their items +1 while they wear or wield it. Adapting the DMG level requirements, Fraener would need to be level 3 to create permanent Uncommon items (+1 magic weapons & +1 shields), level 5 to create Rare items (+1 magic armour, +2 magic weapons & +2 magic shields). Level 11 for Very Rare (+3 weapon/shield, +2 armour) and Level 17 for Legendary (+3 armour). Tim M. said: OOC Can Fraener enchant items then? That might be a useful thing! If so, Erasmus may have a job for him.  Chris T. said: Fraener would like to use his Blessings of the Forge to enchant the armour.  Ah, I see. So Bracers of Defence aren't happening any time soon. Good to know, thanks.
Tim M. said: Erasmus is grateful for her generosity.  Erasmus is still not quite ready for reenacting the Kama Sutra with Jyrdani, but is working through his issues.  Right now she'll settle for snuggles and some light petting, but a girl does have needs! >:)
Barbara's room assignments, unless anyone objects. Barbara takes her (very nice) old room for herself & Norrin, and gives Erasmus & Jyrdani Gurzun's old room. Fraener is assigned Alokoth's old room (third best room in the Hall) as befits a dwarf of his stature, with his men garrisoned in the adjacent barracks. Qiviel is assigned a large upstairs room, Malied an adjacent smaller room. Ted & Syrus small upstairs rooms likewise, with Syrus next door to Erasmus. Although Barbara would also be willing to kick Will the Weasel, the festhall floor manager, out of his nice room and give it to Syrus. Strohm is assigned a large downstairs room suitable for himself & his companions (& several festhall wenches too, most likely). Tenho on request is assigned a downstairs room, he indicates he'll not stay forever (many more calls on his time, don't you know), but at least until Khundrakar and its legendary hoard of Durgeddin's magic weapons is reclaimed. Fraener may want to talk with him about that. :)

That night Lady Barbara treats everyone to a slap-up feast in the upper floor dining room - though I expect Strohm is otherwise engaged.
Simon N. said: Barbara leaves the division of Jack's possessions to Erasmus of course.  For clarity, Jack's possessions were: +1 Half plate (Jyrdani)  +1 Longsword (Qiviel)  Gauntlets of Ogre Power (Ted)  Shield(?)  2x potion of climbing 625gp (was this included in the hall treasure?)
The 625 gp was not included, Alokoth returned it with Jack's body and Barbara entrusts Erasmus to divvy it up appropriately. Erasmus suggests 50gp each to Erasmus, Jyrdani, Malied, Norrin, Qiviel, Strohm, Syrus & Tenho and 25gp to Ted (as he already got the gauntlets and didn't really know Jack). The balance of 200gp he gives to Norrin to do weth as he sees fit, suggesting it is returned to Jack's order.  The potions of climbing are split between Ted and Tenho, on the assumption that the ability to climb may serve them well to get the drop on someone.  Simon N. said: The 625 gp was not included, Alokoth returned it with Jack's body and Barbara entrusts Erasmus to divvy it up appropriately.
Before he leaves for Ravensburg with Norrin, Erasmus asks Syrus to keep an eye on Jyrdani and Ted as he worries about the handsome half-orc. On the ride to Ravensburg, Erasmus says to Norrin "I'm sorry for losing Jack. I made a couple of bad decisions in the planning of our assault on the hall. We should never have allowed so few to go so far ahead without support, nor should we have let Jack fall so far behind on our retreat.  "I knew this then as I do now, but I foolishly let my pride get the better of me, opting instead to defer all decisions to Lady D'Ashe. I am not suggesting that she or you are to blame for Jack's death. I saw a flaw and did not speak up and so I take full responsibility. I promise to always offer what counsel I can in future."
Ted's got some new armour too!  With the sack of gold Norrin gave him (thanks Norrin dude), he's upgraded to studded leather AC15 hahahaha, also bought a hand axe.
Matt said: Ted's got some new armour too!  With the sack of gold Norrin gave him (thanks Norrin dude), he's upgraded to studded leather AC15 hahahaha, also bought a hand axe. The sneak attack restrictions are a bit weird - anyway I'm happy to allow melee sneak attack with any light weapon, including hand axe & club.
OOC: Sorry for the wall of text.   :) IC: The morning sun streams through the window of the richly appointed bedroom, and slowly creeps across the floor towards the bed. In it, two people lay, a man and a woman, both asleep. The woman's golden hair spills across the pillow. The sunlight reaches the bed and climbs up until it shines on the man's face, waking him with the morning's gentle kiss. Norrin opens his eyes and squints at the light in his face, and looks around in a moment of panic. He doesn't recognize the room at first, but quickly remembers the recent events. Yes, Barbara is still asleep in the bed beside him. He sits up and groans slightly, holding his head. Perhaps a little too much ale last night. But why not? They were celebrating, and drinking to the memories of fallen comrades. He climbs to his feet, and begins to get dressed. A homespun open collar tunic, leather pants, and mid-calf soft boots. A wide belt and studded bracers. He looks at his armour piled in the corner of the room, and contemplates donning it. But why? Won't he be safe in his own home? He pauses at that word. Home. He's never had a home before, not since growing up in Waterdeep. Even then, his mother was a single parent working as a housekeeper in an inn in the Trades Ward, and the kindly innkeeper gave her a room of her own for her and her son. It wasn't so much a home as just a place to live. But here, in D'Ashe Manor, this may be Norrin's home. Nevertheless, he still straps on his sword belt. This is Damara, after all. He makes his way down to the common room of the establishment formerly known as Gurzun's Festhall. What it will be called from now on is up to Barbara. This is her place, and she has a far better business mind than he does. It's now his job to extend the business interests beyond the borders of her land holdings. He already knows there's a few abandoned farms in the area, thanks to Gurzun and his cronies, and he wouldn't mind seeing them resettled. The girls of the festhall are already busy at work, making breakfast, he's happy to see. He asks one of them to make him something -- fried eggs, cured ham, potatoes and toasted bread. He sees a few of his companions about, likewise beginning their day. He spies Will the Weasel on the balcony overlooking the common room. First things first, he thinks, as he finishes his breakfast. He gestures to Will, getting the man's attention, and then mouths, "A word," while nodding his head in the direction of the festhall's main door. He waits until Will meets him in the common room, and clasps the smaller man on the shoulder. He squeezes, not so hard as to cause pain, but just enough to let Will know that he could if he wanted to. "Good morning, Mr. Weasel," Norrin says cheerfully, leading will out the main door of the festhall. "May I call you Will? Very good. As you now doubt noticed, you are no longer in the employ of Gurzun Half-orc. He's had a much more important meeting to attend, one he won't be returning from. Lady D'Ashe," he says, emphasizing the word, "has now taken ownership of the manor, which was rightfully hers. I understand you're the floor manager? Good!" Once outside, Norrin continues. "Things will be changing around here, and I can see that you will want to be part of it, making things better for everyone. I've been from one end of Faerun to the other, seen many things and fought many battles. And one thing that tired travellers need is a comfortable and safe place to stay." Again, he emphasizes certain words. "The key to that is providing a good work environment for the employees. These girls are hard-working and deserve respect. Would you not agree?" "So, as floor manager, that is your responsibility. It's your job to see that they are treated well and make sure that every single copper that they earn for themselves stays that way. No theft, no abuse, and no cheating, because if word reaches my ears the girls are being treated unfairly and I have to investigate, things will not go well for the offending parties. I hope I'm being clear on this." He continues his friendly tone, but the look on his face says otherwise. " Lady D'Ashe will have much on her plate to deal with, and simply will not have time to referee disputes between the girls, or between the girls and the customers. Or between customers and anyone else . I hope I can rely on you to help things move smoothly in the right direction. Very good!" He claps Will on the shoulder, again a little harder than necessary, and dismisses the man. Tim M. said: Before he leaves for Ravensburg with Norrin, Erasmus asks Syrus to keep an eye on Jyrdani and Ted as he worries about the handsome half-orc. I am not suggesting that she or you are to blame for Jack's death. I saw a flaw and did not speak up and so I take full responsibility. I promise to always offer what counsel I can in future." As the pair rides together, with Jack's body wrapped in a shroud over the saddle of his warhorse, Norrin's face belies his deeply troubled thoughts. "You cannot blame yourself for this, Erasmus," Norrin replies. "We all need to shoulder the blame for what happened. I too saw flaws in the plan, but in my excitement of finally seeing my goals in view, I did not recognize them for what they were. I let that cloud my judgment. I could have spoken up as much as you, but I did not. Everyone thinks I'm some great general, calling me Sir Norrin and such, but I am not. I'm only a former caravan guard who managed to get lucky a few times, nothing more. But I'd rather be lucky than good. "Jack's death weighs on me more than others, I suppose," he continues. "I've known him longer, and he and I fought side-by-side in some mighty scraps. Saved each other a few times, too. So that is why getting his body back from Gurzun's men was important for me. Jack must be honoured and his remains returned to his order." He lowers his voice and his eyes. "And I'm not too proud to say I privately mourned his passing. He was a good friend, one who will be missed." He looks up and stares off into the distance. "He died what he was sworn to do, and that was upholding what was right and good. His life should be celebrated."

Will seems nervous but compliant! Re Festhall economics: on the current setup the girls pay about 50% of their takings over, covering food, drink, accommodation etc (but clothing, makeup jewelry & such they buy themselves). On a typical day a girl brings in 2gp gross (including customer purchases of accommodation, food, & drink), 1gp to her & 1 gp to the Hall, which with 18 girls & outgoings of 14gp/day gives you a typical profit of 4gp/day.  If they kept all their nookie money the Hall's income would halve to around 9gp/day, giving a deficit of -5 gp/day. Outgoings could be reduced by eg making PCs drink small beer & eat gruel (or spend money on upkeep); those numbers assume the PCs and senior NPCs all enjoy a 'comfortable' lifestyle. With enough belt tightening you could probably get expenditure down to 9gp/day and break even.

Norrin just didn't want Mr. Weasel to get any bright ideas of cheating the girls out of their net income to line his own pockets. He doesn't like Will and thinks he's a lowly scumbag, kind of the way he viewed Fulnok when they first met. Once the local farms get up and running, then the festhall's income should improve.
Geoff said: Once the local farms get up and running, then the festhall's income should improve. Farmers, in my experience, don't tend to have much in the way of disposable income. You'll probably want to ensure the quality of the experience is as high as possible. You will probably lose money to begin with, but in time you'll attract a more affluent clientèle. You'll need to be able to ensure discretion, and the safety of your guests.  Do we need to do some paid jobs ourselves to inject some liquidity? We could see if there are any opportunities in Ravensburg?
@TIM: Are you dividing the below loot up for us all ;) If no one is claiming the "Lantern of Revealing", can Syrus have it please? @SIMON And how long is this period of Resting Activity? If there is time, Syrus would like to spend another week (or 2?) learning Herbalism as well as craft up another 2x scrolls of "Dissonant Whispers"... Barbara leaves the division of Jack's possessions to Erasmus of course.  She discusses rewards with Norrin, and suggests awarding 200gp in coin each to Erasmus, Syrus, Strohm, Qiviel, Malied Ted Jyrdani & Tenho, so 1600gp total in coin. Perhaps 100gp to Fraener for his assistance IDing the magic items?
Looking at 15 days downtime so Fraener can complete his armour, plus long rests & level ups. You can do 2 weeks herbalism & make 2 level 1 scrolls ok. You can ask Barbara for one of the items in lieu of your 200gp cash if you like.
The Manor treasure is Barbara's. We got 200gp each as a reward for retaking the manor. If you want anything else, you'll have to take it up with her.

Tim M. said: Do we need to do some paid jobs ourselves to inject some liquidity? We could see if there are any opportunities in Ravensburg?  Not really - on current numbers the manor treasury is growing by 4gp/day (so 60gp over the 15 days of downtime) while supporting you all nicely. :) Attracting farmers back will be harder - Barbara says it was not Gurzun but the Wolf Winters and the menfolk being taken off to fight for the King against Zhengyi that drove the farmers off the land, fleeing to the warmer lowlands. With orc, goblin & worse raids now frequent along the frontier it will be hard to tempt settlers back. She suggests the secret to success is expansion - establish a powerful Barony, conquer the Stoneheart Vale, restore Carak Nur/Goblin Town to the Dwarves, and all will be well. :D
@Simon: Thanks for the info! 2x weeks of Herbalism and 2x scrolls it is, Thank You!! :) Syrus is now "Syrus, Bard of many Scrolls" ;) Syrus addresses Lady Barbara with a deep bow: "My lady, Thank You very much for your offer of 200gp reward for our help with reclaiming the manor. May I humbly request to trade in my treasured 200gp for the Latern of Revealing instead? I feel that this item will really help with defeating powerful foes from here onwards and it will greatly benefit our party as a whole. Especially when faced with the hundreds of monsters that no doubt we will encounter in the next part of our adventure together!" (BTW Syrus has alone started writing song to celebrate the life of Ser Jack called "Oink! Oink!")
The prospect of free land may be enough to entice some to settle around the manor. It won't be an overnight thing, but plans for the future, after the region is cleaned up of monsters and the like. Norrin isn't worried about the money, though. He still has a long adventuring career ahead of him, and a lot of his free money will go into the festhall's coffers. As for establishing a barony, that will be problematic, since the existing barons might not be so eager to give up their lands for the creation of a rival. That's how wars start.
Barbara smiles graciously. "As you wish, good Syrus." (deduct 200gp, add lantern of revealing). GM: Your party returns the body of Jack Blackthorn to the House of the Golden Thorn in Ravensburg. Sir Veritas thanks you and sends a letter to Lady Aryn Blackthorn, Jack's mother, at Fulscarp Manor in Grimstead Barony, informing her of the loss and how her son died bravely in the finest tradition of the Rangers. In Ravensburg Erasmus is able to arrange a private meeting for his party including Lady Barbara with the Ducal Steward Sir Arthur Dahnim, but not with the Duchess Malla. Sir Arthur explains that politically Camarthan cannot be seen to intervene in Arcatan politics - to take sides between Barbara & Gurzun, who both have friends at the Arcatan court in Valls - but privately of course the Duchess welcomes events. She would officially knight Norrin as a Knight of Camarthan if she could do so, but this would make it look like Camarthan had encroached on Arcatan territory, and they have already had a letter of complaint about the Ramvira situation. With Baroness Sylvia of Ostel still casting greedy eyes on Camarthan and questioning Duchess Malla's legitimacy, and the King in Heliogabalus closely allied with Sylvia, Camarthan risks encirclement and cannot afford to provoke Arcata further. He's sure you understand.
Sir Arthur Dahnim to Lady Barbara D'Ashe: "The Duchess is particularly keen to ensure that her former ...comrades... at your Hall are well taken care of. She's also concerned that some of those who 'left suddenly' during Gurzun's tenure may have been abducted and taken to Goblin Town... as almost happened to yourself." Lady Barbara grimaces. "I did a head count - there's at least one recently 'departed', Jana of Valls. I'll see what I can do." Sir Arthur: "The Duchess thanks you most deeply. Camarthan welcomes the restoration of the rightful Lady of D'Ashe Manor - off the record, of course."

GM: The Courana sisters return from Ravensburg in their carriage along with Norrin Erasmus Barbara (& anyone else who went to Ravensburg). They enjoying lording it (ladying it?) around in their fine silk dresses, eliciting some jealousy from Beverly's former co-workers at the Hall. Beverly isn't the fastest worker, but she can make one potion of healing per week at cost of 25gp in ingredients. She can make two in current downtime. Greater Healing is beyond her, but she can turn the ingredients into 4 potions of healing at standard work rate.
ooc the burn poor Strohm XD
Brewing Potions of Healing Brewing healing potions has a separate set of requirement. A character who is proficient with the herbalism kit can brew potions. Here are the other requirements: Type Cost Time Healing (level 1) 25 gp 1 Day (1 Workweek level 1-2) Greater Healing (level 3) 100 gp 1 Workweek Superior Healing (level 6) 1,000 gp 3 Workweeks Supreme Healing (level 11) 10,000 gp 4 Workweeks

Afrafa doesn't know much about Lady Barbara - another struggling widow with her husband lost to the war. After her Manor failed, with Sir D'Ashe lost at Goliad in M6 1357, and the Bloodstone Wars winding down in late 1358 DR with Dragonsbane's victory over the Witch King, she brought in Gurzun & his men to turn the failed D'Ashe Manor into a successful Festhall, servicing the miners rich in gold from the western mountains. Master Temminische considers the question:  "She is high-born - a Dulac, from Ostrav in northern Arcata, though born without title. The Dulac have a reputation for doing what it takes to survive in a difficult world... her uncle the Lord Dulac dealt with Zhengyi the Witch King during the war, even before Goliad... and Ostrav survived, unsacked. I would say that by all accounts Lady Barbara maintains the family tradition. She is a survivor. She may not be cruel, but she will do whatever is necessary." He shrugs. "Perhaps such times as these need such folk, hmm?"
Strohm approaches Erasmus "Erasmus my friend since we save the merchant princess and dealt with Gurzun reclaiming D'Ashe Manor we now need to help your order and deal with the menace that is the crimson monks which I hear are terrorizing the friendly folks at Roadhouse inn I say that we need to go now soon as possible"

I fear there are many menaces vying for our attention at present. I get the feeling, overhearing conversations in the main hall, that Tenho believes we have unfinished business to the west. Fraenar seems eager to delve into the Forge at Khundakar and both he and Tenho are convinced there is an impressive hoard of magical weapons and armour to be found.  "While I am keen to carry out the request of the master of my Order, it may be more efficient to deal with the matter of the Forge as we are over this way. At least we will have somewhere comfortable to rest when we're done there, before heading on to deal with this crimson monastery."
"I see yes there many riches that could be hidden in the long-forgotten forge" turning to Erasmus "I'm ready to travel anywhere as long as our group is willing my sword is ready Erasmus you can count on that"
With Erasmus' Passive Insight 14 he suspects Strohm may have some ulterior motive for saving the lovely ladies of the Roadhouse Inn Festhall from the Crimson Monks... if only Erasmus could work out what that motivation might be, hmm...

OOC: Did I see a recent post where Mistress Afrafra wanted to meet with Norrin? I looked around and couldn't find it, so I might be mistaken. I would have been in the last week or so, before the events at Gurzun's Festhall. If so, then he will take advantage of their presence in Ravensburg and see her.
OOC: I believe that, when Erasmus was at the castle, Malla or Dahnim extended an invite to Norrin and Jack [:(] to visit. I don't k ow whether Afrafa asked specifically to meet Norrin, but Erasmus will be happy to arrange an introduction.

He wanders off, seeking out Barbara.  "Lady D'Ashe, might I trouble you to store some money for me, please?" If Barbara agrees, he hands over a chest containing 600gp. "Just in case, you understand. Should I fall in battle, I wish for 50 gold to be given to each member of the party, with the remainder split equally between Jyrdani and Syrus. I trust that you will see to this?" He then goes to find Syrus. "I have put a little money aside to be distributed in the event of my death. Barbara is aware of my wishes, but I want to ensure you are aware, too. Dthere is 600gp in a chest here at the manor. 50gp to each member of the party. Don't mention it to Jyrdani, but there is a little extra for you and her; share whatever remains between the two of you. Anything I have on me, please return to the Monastery with my body. Thank you, my friend."

I would have been in the last week or so, before the events at Gurzun's Festhall. If so, then he will take advantage of their presence in Ravensburg and see her. GM: Afrafa is eager to meet with Norrin and find out what's been going on since last they parted. She listens keenly to the tale of Gurzun's Fall, saddened at the death of Jack. Afrafa: "The Brotherhood of the Yellow Rose is very glad to have you as a friend and ally, Norrin. Grand Master Cantoule and Master Temminische believe more dark times are coming, as evil forces try to take advantage of Damara's weakness and confusion, You must have your wits about you at all times. But know that the Yellow Rose will always be a firm friend to those of good heart." She pauses. "Please do not repeat what I am about to tell you..." (long pause) "Grand Master Kane and the Heroes of Damara have identified the great wyrm Nidhogg, paramour of Tiamat, as the cause of these dragon attacks. They have embarked upon a quest for ancient artifacts known as the Orbs of Dragon Control - the only way to save Damara from Tiamat's vengeance. But the Orbs are scattered across the Multiverse. It may take them months - or years. If the people of Damara were to know this, they may lose heart."
Barbara happily agrees to store Erasmus' 600gp in her treasury.
