Can players edit sheets?

I am running a new campaign for the first time here on roll20. We are using the character sheets on the community sheet database. Can players edit their characters for a campaign, while that campaign is not running on roll20? I have one player that doesn't have dependable internet and wants to finish his character later... is this possible? if so how?

I haven't done this myself, but it should be doable. As long as they have logged into a campaign at least once, you should be able to add a character sheet to their token and they should be able to edit it.
i have added character sheets to only 2 tokens so far... so I hope they can... the rest of my players haven't signed into the campaign yet so they won't be able to i guess until they do.
Calle A is correct; until your players have actually joined the game at least once, they're not available as an option to which the GM can assign a journal entry (and its associated token). However, once they've done so, and the GM has given them access, the players can join the game at any time and modify anything they have permission to modify, regardless of the presence of anyone else. The game board is persistent even when the GM isn't there... this is one reason many put up 'splash pages', for the players to view between games. (Reduces the temptation to move pieces around when nobody's looking!) -Phnord
that is a awesome idea i hadn't thought of thank you both :)
I disassociate ownership of tokens when games are not in session.
thats not a bad idea either but i think i'd just add a splash page and drop the players on that page
To do that, you would have to make sure they don't have their characters in their journals, because you don't need to see your token do access its sheet, just need it in your journal. You don't have to have a character in your journal to have control over it.
If I thought my players were cheating, I would kick them out. If you are paranoid, make a copy of the campaign, and spot check anything suspicious. I want them to work on their characters during off time, filling in stories, laying out plans, etc. This discussion was just up before, "Trust and Verify", said Ronald Reagan. this is a reasonable policy. What exactly do you think the players are doing? If a player suddenly has magic items you did not give them, a simple "Where did you get that?" is in order. Stealing a few coins to pay for armor? Changing stats would be apparent right away, I can't think of how a player would scam the system without being obvious...
i'm not trying to prevent them from doing anything but at first I just wanted them to be able to finish character creation even if i wasn't online. That's all .

As long as the have been invited as a player (has the game url) and has a character under their control, they can edit the sheet for it. You do not need to be logged in or have the game running.
Thank you all for answering this and suggesting more:)
