Nameplates are too big on large maps

On large maps, the nameplate size ends up being huge: each letter is like 10 feet of game distance.  (If you've bought OoTA then Gracklstugh is a good example.).   Here's an image of a city view with 70ft grid squares. Our first workaround in my group is to use character initials instead of names.  Our second workaround is to use an art program to embed the player names in the token.  I suppose another work-around could be to use text objects and group them with the token. We like the nameplates but they are obscuring too much space.   So, what is need is some way to have nameplates while keeping them out of the way. Suggestions: Scale nameplates with the token.  They could get too small but maybe they change to 8pt on mouseover. Use an extremely lightweight font like roboto (stop using bold). nameplates only appear on mouse over transparency for font color. a thin line connected to a name that's a little bit away from the token (like in Star Trek Discovery)
This is a problem with maps that are scaled, for sure.
