General Discussions and Shenanigans Thread #07:

1603760756

Edited 1603761100
By the way, the game I meant to say was "Ancestors Legacy" the Viking game, which uses tactics similar to what Chris is describing. Post in this thread now. I try to keep each one to around 50 posts, so you don't have to page flip.
Temujin rode out of Mongolia w/ just 10,000 men and routinely defeated 5:1 odds by means of showing the enemy meat and ambushing them. We do not have to give the enemy any meat, just show it to them. Fabius the Delayer was a 2nd rate general but he defeated Hannibal by giving the enemy meat. A frustrated foe w/ tend to chase the meat. Sam Huston defeated 8:1 odds vs. Santa Anna the same way. Sun Tzu says that the worst generals attack cities. Ordinary generals destroy their foes in the field. The best generals destroy their foes w/o fighting. In Romance of Three Kingdoms, Zhuge Liang desotroys enemies w/o fighting regardless of the odds.
O typo. Temujin had 100,000 riders
I was playing a Space Marine Lieutenant in a Sci/Fi RPG. The Colonel said "frontal assault" so I shot him.
I really do think we need to break the enemy forces into bite size chunks not try to take them on all at once
Thats details of the fight, we can start with gathering our forces buy as many Gladiators as we can, Besides the Yuan ti we need to take out the Bugbears, I just dont want to drag this out for years literally, totally against guerilla hit and run tactics because they have the advantage being in the city and they know they do so we cant draw them out Yuan Ti are pretty intelligent they control the bugbears and grippli the bugbears and grippli can only be fooled in limited encounters, trying to turn them against each other wont work as a long term plan because the Yuan Ti will see it and set them straight, same thing goes trying to fool the Yuan Ti, the ones we dont fool will set them straight cant do that as a long term plan as again, that will drag it out for years we meet once a week for 3 hours, maybe a bit more we cant drag this out, I understand we may be outnumbered by some unknown margin but as I said We cant drag this out for years we need to make a decision and do it, my ideas are gather in the mogrelmen area, us the free gladiators and the mongrelmen, try to get some idea of what we are up against discard hit/ run they wont chase us because that gives us the advantage, my plan is Blitzkrieg, we will have surprise if we just act fast and furious before they can get organized which is the other thing they will do if we go with hit/ run tactics they will have time to get organized.  Gather troops attack the Bugbears compound then see what happens
Ok. You are the Boss.
Just got word that they are updating "Tomb of the Mummy Bride" for DCC and adding, "A ton more content" to the adventure. I had just started working on copy/pasting the adventure onto roll20 and even got 3 color player maps that were not in the regular pdf version. I will continue to get it's information onto roll20 but will wait until after they release it next year to add in the new content. [They could also do some editing on the text as stuff meant for the players also has things only the DM would know or that the players will not initially see until they examine things closer!] There are 4 small temples I might add into this current module or just wait and see if they add anything to them. I will just get the Yawning Portal adventure module and upgrade the, "Hidden Shrine of Tomoachan" one for this game and run that one next. Also, by now you all now know that the Forbidden City's actual original name is Thracia, you probably know of the other module that's coming and that one's map will need a lot of work in Dungeonographer or Dungeon Cartographer 3+, even though they updated the maps during the 3rd edition period, they don't have 'Player Maps'. On another note, The glitch with the Armor Class getting set to Zero is also occurring in my 5E game so it is likely the Tracker.js and or the tor-hightlight-token-on-turn.js that is causing it, and neither one of those has been updated in a really long time! I get around the glitch for duplicated minions/pawns/peons/mooks by setting the attribute value to 'None' in the token configuration, where the AC is displayed above the tokens.  Also, as you note the Token highlight API no longer clears out the flashing when it's the next token's turn or when I clear out the turn order. The Strength ability bonuses glitch is the other glitch that happens.  And the glitch with the AbilityStatRolls Button not displaying for some of the players is another glitch, (It should be seen in the lower left of the screen under our names). Any other glitches I am missing here?!?!
I think those are the ones that show up the most the others are just a bit annoying cause they show up now and then
Just a reminder to  Vyr-Vandalous  to Please get your character sheet filled out Prior to the game on Sunday! I will place a blank sheet under the bio/info tab or an existing one, once I know which class(es) is will be, and just replace the information with the new character's information.
It seems I have another medical check ... I'll come ealry but w/ probably have to leave early :(
We attack Horan at dusk.
Better to draw Horan out of his home by taking out his troops, hes got the best place well protected we dont want to go in there

Roxxifarius said: Better to draw Horan out of his home by taking out his troops, hes got the best place well protected we dont want to go in there True, but I scoped the place out with Divination; his spellbook is easily taken. There is a clear path. If we can deprive him of his spellbook, he will become powerless shortly, which will cause a rift in the alliance and a shift in the balance of power. If you want to put him on edge and on the defensive instantly, then tell DM to let me heist his book. Roxxi join the game real quick if you can.
I agree w/ Roxxy Whack the minions first I don't want to have to face a United Yuan Ti front. The ones in the last temple hurt us 50% and Sheila was down to 2 Deaths Door Spells. Out of CLW and CSW spells. We need to lug the bows and arrows back to the MMs and let Sheila heal us up. She's hurt too. She had to Tank for Xili.  So Sheila and Zhora both want to do the Bugbears because their Surprised You! power is deadly and they are what? 3HD monsters?
Oh, and Roxxy. It's only Day 2 and Zhora is still digging pits and sharpening bamboo spikes ... So the Tasloi Town has been mud-daubed and that's all so far ... O and they have poisoned arrows now ... poisoned spears ... poison everything that can be poisoned!  Still no cog advance for Zhora there over pit and flanking attack But I have refined it in my mind. The foe w/ want to use tree cover. We need the Tasloi to make a show then retreat back to Tree Fort. Foes advance? Line 1 goes into Bunji Pit ... boom ... so dead! ... So they will go around. Now MMs hit them on both flanks and in rear as tasloi rain poisoned arrows down w/ range advantage from on high.  I am thinking they are fucked as they are gradually pushed into Bunji Pit? Roxxy? seeking your tactical and logistical input. Also yours, Keeton B.

O. and as far as Sheila is concerned, Lo Shan signs off and has final say. Or it does not go into action. Zhora also follows Lo Shan. This if for metagame reasons. Lo Shan has natural leadership traits and is smarter irl than I am.
Ricky? I did not play the Viking Games. I did play Skyrim (&amp; loved it). I just know a lot about ancient warfare (and modern). I made a special study of medieval and ancient warfare in 1980 at Sydney U.&nbsp; As for Vikings, I have read the prose edda and every extant saga that has been trans. into English. The Vikings teevee Netflix was great. But had me squirming sometimes for historical innacuracies in it. But hey? It's a teevee show ... and they got so much *spot on* imho I have a PhD and a Book w/ Routledge You can now read the first part of my famous book on-line for free: <a href="https://books.google.com.tw/books/about/Family_and_the_State_in_Early_Modern_Rev.html?id=Izsz9AFqwOwC&amp;printsec=frontcover&amp;source=kp_read_button&amp;redir_esc=y#v=onepage&amp;q&amp;f=false" rel="nofollow">https://books.google.com.tw/books/about/Family_and_the_State_in_Early_Modern_Rev.html?id=Izsz9AFqwOwC&amp;printsec=frontcover&amp;source=kp_read_button&amp;redir_esc=y#v=onepage&amp;q&amp;f=false</a> &nbsp; It's not the games I played. I am the real McCoy. false modesty would be shameful. I am also mad as a cut snake ands my Aboriginal name is Mongarni which means angry idiot.
Horan isn't going to be a problem anymore guys.
If you say so Keeton B. But Sheila votes in Lo Shan's block.&nbsp; &amp; Zhora? well ... she'd think it looks like easy meat and Zhora is afraid to follow easy meat. But if it is just lying there? We send 1 thief to get it. A good thief who has no smell of being human ... and is invisible&nbsp; But if Lo Shan says Leeroy, Sheila Leeroys Zhora is busy fortifying positions now anyway and she is of little use underground&nbsp;

&amp; when i play an MU, I always have a duplicate book in a very safe place just in case the dog eats my homework ... and it saves my MU many many times. Yeah I got rolled along w/ the whole party 3 times in that campaign. The other players were moaning, oh my +4 defender weep weep. O my Ring of Shooting Stars (he loved that Ring). Nevermind, says I, Wizard Elspeth still got a copy of her Book and a Crystal Ball.&nbsp; But first I copy out my spell book again&nbsp; And, of course by that time ... well ... we crush Pirates by +4 defender is nowhere to be found. I guess the dog must have eaten it. did not get Ring of Shooting Stars back either. I lost Bracers AC: 2!&nbsp; So we got all this Purate Loot and here we are all tooled up again. Players still not happy not even with the revenge, and I know that felt good, because they were screaming cuss words as they shook the dice and then let fly ... and off the table again? Dude! It does not matter how long you warm them up. Shut up Chris! It's my turn and I'll roll the way I like! C'mon big 20 .... pop pop pop onto the table matt ... cock die. roll it again. But it's a 20. cock die. next time land it on the table ... O those were the days In retrospect I do now think see what was going on. The DM was a bit sadistic. He'd load us up with class items then take them away. The other players would moan. I want a new PC ... And I'd say, and waste all that XP. You are Level/5 Paladin ffs, act Gandalf and fight the Balrog all the way down. but it was a repeating pattern. at least he did not put assassins on our case or rob my secret stash. The moral of the story.&nbsp; Well. Be more specific about your Divination. Do please. Try and sell me on it. I'm listening.
This is a perfect mini that represents a Character in my 5E game named Roqar after she had the party haul a 445 lbs, 6ft long fancy cast iron tub out of the Neverwinter woods and all the way to Phandalin where she bought a farm and put the tub in the house! <a href="https://www.crocodilegames.com/store/itemDetail.cfm?prodID=469&amp;catID=46" rel="nofollow">https://www.crocodilegames.com/store/itemDetail.cfm?prodID=469&amp;catID=46</a>
LOL @ Ricky. Flying Bathtub?
LMFAO Thats Roqar now&nbsp;
Well, no the tub doesn't fly yet!&nbsp; I have to get the mini, it's just so perfect a representation!

Outstanding! I'm digging a pit and lugging arrows back to base.
TenFootPole.Org has finally posted a review of the adventure module we play tested on here called, "Ravenloft: Prey of the Black Wolf"! Here is the review:&nbsp; <a href="https://tenfootpole.org/ironspike/?p=7001#comments" rel="nofollow">https://tenfootpole.org/ironspike/?p=7001#comments</a> If you were a part of the playtest I recommend posting on there what you thought of the adventure! I did think the artwork could be better, heck, would be cool if it was like "Tales of the Warlock: Revenge of the Gobcocker"! And the layout and editing could be improved. There is a sequel to that coming out called "Clan of the Black Wolf". I don't think he had this one play-tested.
Here is another review that I didn't know about even though i had searched youtube for one, that Christopher Moneymaker, the creator, linked me to: <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWwnK3X0yes" rel="nofollow">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWwnK3X0yes</a>
Ok, I now need to edit down the chat archive for the solo excursion into Horan's Compound and type up a summary for it. I don't know if I will get it done prior to Sunday evening's game or not.
Well, the power has now come back on! Sorry for Mother Nature interrupting the game! So we shall resume next week. I will work on Troy's sheet after I have a piece of my Birthday Cake from yesterday!
After editing down the chat archive for the 'story chapter', I noticed that on occasion that things people typed are not showing after their nicknames. This is happening for both the AD&amp;D &amp; 5E games I run. So There's another Roll20 glitch for you. I see that the Turn Order really got screw up in the AD&amp;D game. I wish the authors of the Tracker.js and tor-hightlight-token-on-turn.js would update their API scripts because it really needs done!

To give you an idea how much time it takes to edit the chat archive and edit it down into a story chapter then type a summary of it. It took 7.5 hours throughout the day to edit 55 pages (it was over 60 before editing, more that double that with the chat avatars included), then type up a 6 page weekly summary from that!
I believe it&nbsp; even if your mostly just copy/pasting parts, I'm sure we all appreciate being to read a summary of the previous week thanks for taking the time
Do any of you know how to work with API scripts?! I had just deleted out Tracker.js and Tor-hightlight-on-turn.js and replaced them with initiative_tracker_plus.js as it was recommend by The Aaron on the API scripts forums as a replacement. No errors were generated when the script initialized however, it's just placing a round marker at -100 in the turn order and nothing else seems to be working!
Hello
Hello Brian! I am actually in the game at the moment trying out new Initiative turn order and turn marker API's for the game.
cool
Brian A. said: cool Come back lol
Hey AquaAlex! I tried rolling an attack macro with the two new API scripts and the Strength Ability bonuses still are not going into the attributes and adding into the Rolls!

Who wants these two found items from the last session? Magical ring (from The Boss) (needs Identified before XP is given) Sword of wounding: (INT 13, &nbsp; Ego 4, AL CN, empathy, detect invisible &amp; (heal as the spell once per week) XP Value: 4,400 | GP Value: 22,000 Here is a current listing of all magical items possessed by the party: If anything is missing such as items mentioned in game summaries that no one took, please let me know): [List Updated 12/04/2020 4:04 pm ;&nbsp; Handout Editable by Everyone: ] Barton Jollymead (Halfling Cleric / Thief): Short Sword +2 Boots of Infiltration (4 lbs): These simple leather boots appear to be made of high quality leather, but give off no aura of magical power. The boots have numerous magical powers: The first is that they do not detect as magic. Move Silently: +15% * Climb Walls: +15%&nbsp; * This will override the Garb of the Charlantan's ability boost of +10% The boots have a hidden cache that acts as a small bag of holding in the base of the left sole.&nbsp; The cache can hold an item up to a foot long and 10 pounds.&nbsp; Currently the cache is holding a set of thieves picks.&nbsp; Valued at 5,000 GP. Berenion is at a loss as to the power or origin of the boots, only that they were labeled “Boots of Infiltration.” Garb of the Charlatan (3 lbs): This appears to be a somewhat risque and/or outlandish outfit worn by stage magicians, their assistants, or circus ringmasters, including a top hat. The exact nature of the outfit (including head wear) changes to fit the situation and/or wearer,&nbsp; but it always appears to be in immaculate, spotless condition. When worn by a thief (or similar classes) or an illusionist (but not magic-user), it provides a base armor class equivalent to that of chain mail (15 or 5 in most systems). It also provides a +1 bonus to all saving throws, and a +10% (or equivalent) bonus when the wearer uses a thief skill other than climbing. XP Value: 6,000 xp Sale Value: 30,000 gp Ring of Free Action :&nbsp;XP Value: 1,000 Sale Value: 5,000 (Originally Coal's) Enables the wearer to move &amp; attack freely &amp; normally whether attacked by a web, hold or slow spell or even while under water. Under water the user moves at normal surface speed &amp; does full damage with weapons so long as the weapon is held. This will not however enable water-breathing. Camlin (Ranger): Mithral Chain Mail +1 Arrows +3 (15) Calenyanda (+1 Long Sword) . This +1 weapon is fashioned from steel with a light green sheen. It is nearly indestructible and razor sharp. Value: 5,000 GP In addition to its magical enhancement, the bearer of the weapon gains an additional +1 to damage on each consecutive strike (up to +5) with the weapon against the same target. Any miss resets the cumulative effect. Berenion Gilithil, relates that this elven blade was also the work of the smith Tincdan. Centuries after his death, the queen of the elves Eruanniel gave the blade to the King of Cadarn, Aelhaeran I. The blade was passed down through the line of human kings for ages until it was gifted to a prominent hero Sir Vorath, Knight of Belinos, and then passed down through that order for centuries as well. With the downfall of the order of dragon riders the sword was lost and was recovered by Glidas Trahern, on one of his adventures. It was his wish that it be returned to the order when their honor was restored. The elven name translates simply as “green blade.” Foseeker Longbow +1 (4,500 GP Value) &nbsp; (6ft) (2 lbs): &nbsp;(Previously Coal's) The bow has a strange magical property that protects the allies of the bearer.&nbsp; The bow either strikes the designated target or misses.&nbsp; There is no need to resolve firing into melee.&nbsp; In addition, the target may not get the bonus for soft cover &nbsp; provided by any other combatant. Coal Blackstone&nbsp; tells the story he was told by Johnny Bowman: Berenion, an elf from Caer Brennau once said, “This bow was a gift to Gildas by my Uncle Taurfaer, a ranger of great renown.&nbsp; He fashioned it himself from ebony and boxwood that was then alchemically treated by the elven Druid Meluieth." "The string is the sinew of a great two-headed troll my uncle slew in his youth.&nbsp;&nbsp; It is said that it is so resilient that it never needs to be unstrung.&nbsp;&nbsp; Fear not if you fire a missile from this bow into a chaotic melee.&nbsp; It has never been known to strike an ally of the wielder.” Boots of the Formene (4 lbs) –&nbsp; This pair of boots connects the wearer with the Formene allows the wearer to: • Navigate the Formene like an elf, by following&nbsp; hidden signs to reach their destination and&nbsp; avoid known pitfalls, • Avoid cave-ins through seismic warnings passed&nbsp; through the soles of the boots, and • Derive nutrition from the fungus, animals, and&nbsp; plants of the Formene without vitamin issues. Cloak of the Formene (3 lbs) – &nbsp; This cloak envelopes the&nbsp; wearer in a shroud of protection: • Providing protection from air quality issues, &nbsp; including toxins in the air, lack of oxygen, and&nbsp; breathing underwater. The hood of the cloak has &nbsp; a face mask that protects the wearer from such threats. • Suppressing all fires within 20’ of the wearer to &nbsp; protect them from air depletion, toxins, etc. • Reducing damage from flash floods. In addition &nbsp; to allowing underwater breathing, the cloak&nbsp; gives the wearer protection from damage &nbsp; that might be taken from sudden flooding of&nbsp; caverns.&nbsp; (save vs. Paralyze at + 4 to mitigate&nbsp; damage; the saves are for half vs. no damage, &nbsp; not full vs. half damage) Ring of Elvenkind –&nbsp; This ring grants the wearer a&nbsp; connection with nature. This allows the wearer to: • Communicate via a form of telepathy with &nbsp; any willing intelligent being in line of sight,&nbsp; including strangers that want to communicate &nbsp; but have no common language or no language&nbsp; at all. • Maintain a sense of time. The wearer is in tune &nbsp; with the sunrise and sunset on the surface. • See in the complete darkness of the Formene&nbsp; (Infra-vision 60’). Lord Cromther (Paladin Knight): Shield, Large +1: &nbsp;bulky ; 10 lbs Long Sword +1 / +3 Vs Regenerating Monsters Gloves of Arrow Snaring:&nbsp; Once snugly worn, these gloves seem to meld with the hands, becoming almost invisible. Twice per day, the wearer can act as if he had the snatch arrows ability even if he does not meet the prerequisites for it. Both gloves must be worn for the magic to be effective. At least one hand must be free to take advantage of the magic. Wearer Rolls a Save vs Petrification, a success means the arrow is snatched! Faint abjuration; CL 3rd; Price 4,000 gp. Lo Chan (Oriental Monk): Amulet of Protection +3 This amulet in the form of a distorted&nbsp; boar's head on a fine gold chain has been specially enchanted by KalnaKaa. It has the&nbsp; properties of a ring of protection +3 but also protects any lycanthrope wearing it&nbsp; from the effects of wolfsbane. Armor Class improves by +3 and adds +3 to saving throws The&nbsp; magical properties of an amulet of protection are cumulative with all other magical items of protection except as follows: 1. The amulet does not add to armor value if magical armor is worn, although it does add to saving throw die rolls. 2. More than 1 amulet of protection operating on the same person, or in the same area, do not combine protection; only one — the strongest, if applicable — will function, so a pair of +2 protection rings are still only +2. Ring of invisibility : The wearer of an invisibility ring is able to become&nbsp;invisible at will, instantly.&nbsp; This non-visible state is exactly the same as the magic-user&nbsp; invisibility spell (q.v.), except that 10% of these rings also have inaudibility&nbsp; as well, making the wearer absolutely silent. If the wearer wishes to speak, he&nbsp;or she breaks all silence features in order to do so. Maximillian Rockatansky (Drow Elf Fighter / Thief): Currently None Pandelume (Grey Elf Cleric / Magic-User): Currently None not counting Spell books Quintolos (Half-Elf Cleric / Magic-User):&nbsp; Needs cured of his water breathing affliction Elven chain mail +2 Mithral large shield +2 Krootad's Black Flail +1 Shiela (Cleric): Mace +2 Xilicien (Elf Magic-User): Bezel's Staff of Healing:&nbsp; 1D6+1 healing Cube of Force:&nbsp; A device of but about the size of a large die — perhaps ¾ of an inch across — the cube of force enables its possessor to put up a wall of force 10 ft per side around his or her person and this cubic screen is impervious to the attack forms shown in the table below. This expends a charge. If 2 charges are expended, bonus damage is doubled (d6 + 6); if 3 charges are expended, bonus damage is tripled (d6 + 9). No more than 3 charges can be expended per strike. The staff can be recharged. Umbrella of Free Falling (1 lbs): &nbsp; As the 1st Level Magic-User Spell.&nbsp; The wearer assumes the mass of a feathery piece of down. would like to get a character set for the game
I am going into the game right now as I was going to work on fixing up some of the spell macros anyways. So, if you drop in I will see you there!

Ok, with the new TurnMarker1.js API script by TheAaron, I installed I need to leave the avatar graphics in the chat archive as I edit it down because if I use the MS Word function to remove all graphics from a document at once, it also removes the Names of everyone in the turn order so we would not see whose turn it is! Which means I have to go back to the tedious old way of deleting graphics one at a time. I need to see if the script has a command to turn off displaying the tokens in the chat box and see if that helps. Also, Brian A. , Brizzen &amp; Troy D. , Please, let me know As Soon As Possible!, when you guys can come online and finish getting your new character sheets made!
