This story begins where another ends. A band of adventurers calling themselves the Order of the Brightblade make a name for themselves among the peoples of Ten Towns travelling from town to town doing whatever is asked of them. Their exploits take them to the very fringes of Icewind Dale and they discover a plot to destroy the Ten Towns. Coming to the aid of Ten Towns the Brightblades manage to stop the beast before it destroys Ten Towns. In the aftermath of the attack it is decided they need to journey out to an island for something, presumably some sort of magic to end the everlasting rime. Tragically this is where the tale of the Brightblades ends as they are never heard from again. Nothing is known of their fate but given that the everlasting rime remains and has begun to take Icewind Dale, it can safely assumed they failed in their task. Lonelywood, Termalaine, Bremen and Targos have been lost to the Rime. Bryn Shander is on the brink of joining the abandoned towns and its people and the refugees it took in from the other lost Towns have begun to evacuate towards the remaining five Towns...
