Multiple Map Layers

Whenever I'm designing the maps and layouts for my campaigns, I have to draw on the map layer (usually because if I have something on the token layer it'll get deleted or moved away from position) and I find that having multiple map layers would be extremely useful. Maybe have the ability to add new ones? I find that whenever I have to delete something off of the main map layer, I end up deleting the actual map frequently, and not the small mark that I meant to get rid of.

There are layers in a way, but they're not really convenient. What would be really beneficial is if we could mark certain images as uneditable with the right click menu. So you can have a big map background placed where you want it and make it so that if you accidentally drag it, it won't actually move.

Having another layer or two would be really nice. Maybe one behind the token layer, and one in front.

I had a lot of trouble when I wanted to place a cloud of gas over the field, and I wanted it to appear on top of the characters, but then I couldn't move their tokens without a lot of trouble.

A layer on top of the tokens would be pretty awesome
+1 on more layers, as always

I would definitely put an extra layer to use for spell effects mostly. Entangle, web, and obscuring mist are the most obvious ones that could benefit by not interfering with token movement within the effects.

As an alternative, I've so far drawn spell templates, but they can still be cumbersome when stacking with other tokens, and are not nearly as nice for visual impact.
*bump*
Just trying to keep this suggestion alive.

Please post if you support this idea so the devs can take notice.

I'd love to be able to have a layer of roofs over buildings, and layer other effects like clouds, etc. Multiple layers would be awesome. Being able to lock things so they aren't selectable without a modifier key would be a big help too.

+1 I've never met a layer I didn't like.

Having a map image/drawing layer and then a layer over top of it to make minor adjustments would be nice.. Whenever I make a map I go through and outline doors with the square tool and sometimes end up moving the map image rather than the 'line'.

Would even be happy with a way to lock an image or group in place. Could be useful on other layers too where you can set a lighting source and lock it from those "accidental" movements.

Alicia, I suggest making changes (such as outlining doors) on a different layer and then shifting the object to the map layer. You will not accidentally move the map image that way.

+1 I can't count the number of times I end up accidentally moving the wrong token\map\text\etc...

+1 on more map layers. 1 object layer and 1 gm layer is fine but map layers this would help immensely
+1 for more layers

I have tried this a few times, and I find that the object added to the map layer ends up under the main map.
Add me to the rallying call for more map layers please :) (only 1 or 2 though, lets not go daft)

Razielskorp, right click on the main map and hit "To Back" in order to fix that.

I think two new layers would be great. Something that would essentially be "Upper Map" a layer in front of the tokens.I think two new layers would be great. SometingI think two new layers would be great. Something that would essentially be "Upper Map" a layer in front of the tokens. Then a second layer, which could just be "Spells". This would be a perfect place for Entangle/Web, etc etc
Couldn't spell effects be tokens? With Alt+ for placing, they can overlap other tokens, yet be seperately deletable.

This has my vote being able to draw the layouts of upper floors of buildings and reveal them as the players go upstairs..... Bliss ;>)

I'd like (from the "deepest" to the "highest") : map/background < objects (walls, furniture ...) < tokens (PCs, NPCs, creatures ...) < roof/effects < GM/hidden layer (semi translucid as it is now)

Yes, I could really use multiple map layers as well. A ground layer, building and furniture layer, and maybe a roof layer......so three or four beneath the active tokens, and then retain the gm layer as well. Multiple layers also allows for stacking of multistory structures without needing to change sheets.

+1 for more layers. Also +1 for being able to lock tokens to prevent them from being moved accidentally. And +1 for a quick way to select a token beneath another (like a submenu popup).
