Weekly Gaming Summary #30 (11/01/2020)

Thank You For Playing today's game 11/01/2020 - From 8:15 EDT, until 11:00 pm EDT, and our 268th Gaming Session, goes out to:   Barbarian – Human Female – Zhora & Cleric – Human Female - Sheila - Chris M.   Cleric / Thief – Human – Dalnoth - Gabe G.   Fighter / Thief – Drow Elf – Maximillian Rockatansky - Brendan M.   Magic-User - Elf - Xilicien -  Devin M.   Monk (Oriental) – Human –Lo Shan -  Roxxifarius     Paladin Knight – Human – Lord Cromther - cromth   Ranger – Half Elf – Camlin  –  Buddy-D     Whom Could Not Make It Today!   Full Party Attendance!   Ranger – Half Elf – Pavel – No Player     Game Summary for Sunday Evening (11/01/2020):   Opening Scene: It is now 39 days into the adventure (since setting off in the Belle Venture), and September 2, 6:00 am on day 35 on the isle.   After resting for a few days, the party decides to go have a look at a domed library in the north west temple section of the Forbidden City.   They reach the eastern block near where the library is and have a look at some of the ruined buildings lining the street from south to north, first before going to the librar.   Lo Shan goes up to a double door and has a listen, rolling an 82% needing ≤  25% and does not hear anything beyond the door, so he looks for a trap and did not find on a roll of 81% ≤ 40%. Lo Shan tries to pick the lock rolling a 95% needing ≤ 52%, the door wasn’t locked anyways so they enter the ruined building to see that it has a black and white marble tile on the floor and the rubble that was laying about has been gathered up into several piles here and there, likely to clear it up for re-construction.   Camlin, tries to listen for anything while in the room rolling a 43% ≤ 10% and does not.   There are doors on the north and south walls, so Lo Shan goes to the south one and has a listen for anything going on  beyond it, rolling a 22% needing ≤ 25%, he did not hear anything.   Camlin, has a listen at the north door, rolling a 32% ≤ 10% and did not hear anything, so he opens the door into another abandoned structure where the rubble as been gathered into piles, just like the current room. There are more doors on the west, north and east walls here.   Maximillian, has a look at the north door, checking for traps, he rolls a 96% needing ≤ 40% and did not find one. Looking for a trap on the west door, he rolls a 59% needing ≤ 40% and did not find one.   Max opens the north door to see another ruined building also in the process of having the debris removed. Doors are on its west, north and east walls, with a blue & white marble tiled floor.   Lord Cromther uses his detect evil ability to scan the room and did see any evil aura emanations.   Camlin, has a listen at the south door in the room they had first entered, rolling a 40% needing ≤  40%, he did not hear anything. He opens the door into a white marble tiled room also being cleared, with doors on its south and east walls.     Maximillian, checks for a trap on the north door, in the blue/white tiled room, rolling a 40% needing  40%, he did not find one. The door opened back to the outside along a west / east going cobblestone street.   Maximillian, then checks the south where Camlin just had a listen at, for a trap, rolling a 79% needing ≤ 40%, he did not find one and opens the door into a red marble tiled room also being cleared, with more doors on its west, north, south west & south east walls.   Maximillian, checks the west door for a trap, rolling a 42% needing ≤ 40% and did not find one, he opens the door and enters a green marble tiled room with Camlin, Lo Shan & Dalnoth.   A portion of this 100 foot long rectangular building is still covered by a trapezoidal roof.  The front has large 30-foot tall columns supporting the remaining ceiling.  A few pens formed by metal cages still stand within. They all roll a surprise roll and all succeeded in not being surprised by two female and one male ghost that start attacking them!   [Note: I forgot about the victim also running away in panicked fear for 2d6 turns!]   Initiative rolls are made and Combat Round #01 begins!   Xilicien, casts the Magic Missiles spell at the 3 ghost with the first two going to one of them for 2, 2, 4 and 3 damage!   Ghost #01, hits Lo Shan with a Ghostly Touch, aging him 20 years so now he’s 41!   Lord Cromther, tries to turn the Ghosts but they prove to powerful for him to do so!   Maximillian, swings his long sword and missed a Ghost!   Camlin, fires an arrow from the magical +1 Foeseeker long bow, but Ghost #03 deftly dodged it!   Pavel, narrowly missed Ghost #03 with an arrow from his long bow1   Dalnoth, attempts to turn the Ghosts but proves to powerful for his ability!   Ghost #03, attempts to Magic Jar Maximillian, however Maxillian’s saving throw vs spell is a successful roll of 20, so he fights off the attempt!   Ghost #02, attempts to Magic Jar Lord Cromther, who rolls 17+2 [Protection from evil bonus] = 19 needing ≥ 11, succeeding on his saving throw vs spell, thus fights off the attempt!   Sheila, tries to turn the ghosts but could not!   Lo Shan, tries to stab a Ghost with his magical +1 dagger but missed!   Zhora, stays back for now.   2 nd Attacks for Round #01:   Maximillian, missed a Ghost with his long sword!     Round #02 of Combat!   Xilicien, stays put for now.   A Ghost tries to Magic Jar Lo Shan who rolls a 12 needing ≥ 10, avoiding the ghost taking possession of him!   Lord Cromther, attacks Ghost #02 with his weapon of choice, the long sword but missed!   Maximillian’s long sword goes right through a Ghost without having any effect!   Camlin, fires an arrow but missed Ghost #03!   Pavel, fires an arrow and missed!   Dalnoth, stays put for now.   Ghost #03, attacks Maximillian with it’s Ghostly Touch, ageing him 40 years, making him 130 years old now!   Ghost #02, stays put for now.   Sheila, swings her magical +2 footman’s mace at Ghost #03 but missed!   Lo Shan, missed a ghost with his +1 dagger!   Zhora, stays back!   2 nd Attacks for Round #02: Lord Cromther, missed Ghost #03 with his long sword!     Round #03 of Combat!   Xilicien withdrawals out of the room!   Ghost #01, attacks Lo Shan with it’s Ghostly Touch, ageing him 40 years to 81 years old now!   Lord Cromther, hits Ghost #02 while it is still in semi-material form, his magical +1 long sword doing 11 damage!
Maximillian, withdraws from the room!   Camlin, fires an arrow but Ghost #013 was not in semi-material form so it just goes right through!   Pavel, fires and arrow at Ghost #03 and missed!   Dalnoth, withdrawals from the room!   Ghost #03, tries to Magic Jar Sheila but she succeeds on her saving throw vs spell, rolling a 13 needing ≥ 11, preventing the ghost from doing so!   Ghost #02, tries to use it’s Ghostly Touch on Lord Cromther but missed him!   Zhora stays back.     Round #04 of Combat!   Lord Cromther, missed Ghost #02 with his long sword!   Camlin, fires an arrow, but missed Ghost #03!   Ghost #02, attacks with it’s Ghostly Touch at Lord Cromther, ageing him 40 years to 64 years old!   2 nd Attack for Round #04: Lord Cromther hit’s Ghost #02 for 9 damage with his +1 long sword!     Round #05 of Combat!   Ghost #01 tries to Magic Jar Camlin and succeeds to do so after he fails his save vs spell rolling only a 2 needing ≥ 13! Camlin is now possessed by a ghost!   Lord Cromther retreats out of the room!   At this point combat has ended as everyone has now left the room occupied by the ghost, other than Camlin who just got possessed!     When Camlin leaves the room, the others jump him to try and tie him up, and he resists the attempt so Sheila, cast a hold person spell upon Camlin, who rolls a 6 needing ≥ 13, so he is held by the spell and can not move. So Camlin is then tied up and divested of his weapons!   When the party speaks to the possessed Camlin, they learn that the Forbidden City’s name is Thracia, and that the ghost was an enslaved Thracian from 1,042 years ago, who tried to escape the conquering barbarians only to be slaughtered. Lo Shan tells the ghost that what it sought was long dead. The ghost says, “Yes long dead only to be replaced by another evil, then yet another evil.” The Ghost tells the party, that if they could help drive the evil out of Thracia, that she and others will finally be at peace. Xilicien, asked the ghost if she would help the party fight the yaun-ti that they are preparing to war against. The ghost is glad they seek to rid of the yuan-ti and their minions and tells them that it will not rest until she she sees it is done. And that she and the other ghost would assist them, if the others can possess other adventurers. Xilicien, tells the party that having the ghost possess gladiators instead of them would be a better option. After this, Lo Shan goes to have a chat with one of the Yuan-Ti guards guarding the domed library. After the exchange, Lo Shan learns that the party will not be let in, unless they have authorization from Zoldathra or Horan. [The party does know of Zoldathra, through previous party members that passed the information on from the original group that first came to the Isle of Dread. He was the wizard Yuan-Ti Abomination that informed the adventurers of what he learned of the Vanguard’s demon lord Sertrous’ true intention to completely destroy the world, not to rule over it all.] After the exchange at the Library, the group heads back to the coliseum to have a chat with the gladiators. As things stand w/ my PCs 1. Sheila seems to be doing a fine job supporting the Away Team 2. Zhora gets cosy w/ Coal at the Mongrel Men Camp. She wants to orgainize a fall back position/ambush/kill zone in Case the fort is over-run. She needs Coal to deputize her for this mission. Also, she makes arrows and shortbows from Mongel Men capable of using them and to replenish her own arrow supply. She sets up a target range and drills the MMs in simple commands by hand sign or animal call. Is Coal on board w/ this?
I am sure King Coal would approve!
So I don't have to offer him my body? LOL Well ... it's simple ... In the case of the walls beginning to be taken, I hoot like an owl and everybody takes up their Ambush positions.  The Ambush/Kill zone is a gully where we can attack them w/ missiles ... they w/ be lured into it by the sight of me and a few MMs some 100 yards away. I'll be faking a gympie leg. Going after me? Snares and deadfalls. meanwhile pummelled from all sides now ------------------------------------------------------------- But a great trap needs an apparent exit route But that obvious way out of full of bunji pits and snap traps and snares and nets When they break for the "exit" lol I howl like a wolf and the force takes up it's coup d gras positions We try and take some of the important looking ones alive.  Any captives who try to cast spells w/ find themselves suitably maimed

I also promote some MM to NCOs and teach them all to move by sections and use cover fire --- on standard hand signals
This is all very routine to a 7th Level Scythian. Except normally we'd do it from horseback
Btw. Scythians never trust static fortifications. So if the walls are confronted by 1:1 odds, or even look like being surrounded, it's the Hoot Owl signal
If this means we lose the fort? we can retake that fort because we are aslo going to dig a secret tunnel. So get busy Mongrel Men. For tribe and kin and freedom!
Very bad news is that my outpatient sessions have been scheduled to clash w/ our game. But it will not be every week
Zhora will also craft some "Screamer" arrows to be used when she barks like a dog. The intent is to create a crowd crush in enemy ranks. Also, 1 in 4 arrows w/ be rigged for fire
So Zhora should not be w/ the Away Team fighting ghosts ... she'd be at MM Basecamp readying a killer defense
Sheila has a +2 Mace, but only AC: 3.  She can try a Hold Person on a Ghost. It probably will not work, but a single target saves at -2
