After returning to Greenest, the adventurers are met with troubling news. The enemy dragon princes, Skalnaedyr and Domborcojh, have taken the field in their dragon forms, violating the most fundamental pact of the dragon prince council of Murghôm. Chelnadatilar and Astanalan have done the same and have thus far held the line, but it is only a matter of time before fallout from their battle destroys the land and everyone living in it. This battle must be stopped, and soon! If Chelnadatilar and Astanalan could focus on Skalnaedyr, they could subdue him or drive him away, but for that to happen Domborcojh would need to be dealt with. The most effective way to pull a dragon away from a battle is simple: steal from his hoard. Governor Nighthill calls Jardeth to the council: When I was held prisoner, I saw Domborcojh take many rich items deeper into the cave system. I remember he was particularly taken with a magical beacon which could be lit to shine a great light in the sky, and a massive jewel. He boasted of how together they created the most beautiful rainbow. Most of his hoard is stored elsewhere, but those items I saw placed in a chest and given to a water elemental, who disappeared into the pool near my cage. The adventurers agree to retrieve these treasures and use them to distract Domborcojh, at no little risk to themselves. Jardeth is able to provide one potion of waterbreathing for underground diving. Mounting horses provided by Governor Nighthill, they speed across the land to the cave entrance. Gnomes still guard the entrance, but Malkior's magic-enhanced intimidating presence convinces them to let the party through. The xorns in the next room are distracted by a handful of gold, and the party drops into the underground pool behind them, avoiding the need to pass by the cavern of giant spiders. Soon they are once again by the cage where Jardeth was once a prisoner. While underwater they had spotted two giant octopuses and a chamber accessible only by going underwater. Using their waterbreathing items - Jardeth's potion, another potion found during earlier adventures, and a spell scroll - the whole party is able to function normally under the surface. A brief skirmish with the octopuses ends when Lariat's attacks and Malkior's spells frighten them away, and the party moves into the hidden chamber. This area is blanketed by some sort of defensive psionic field, causing minor pain with each passing moment. Moving quickly, Ulrik and Lariat move across the chamber to a small well, where they find the treasures and begin to collect them. But two water elementals rise up, alerted by the movement of the treasures! Thinking quickly, Lariat drops the treasures into Ulrik's bag of holding, then they run for the exit. Unable to sense the items they are bound to guard, the elementals settle back into the well. Having obtained the treasures, the party exits the cave and moves up into the rocky ground above it. They set up the beacon and gem, shining a rainbow into the sky that can be seen for miles. After just a few moments, they grab the treasures, put them back into the bag of holding, then hide nearby. Soon enough, Domborcojh appears in the sky, looking for his stolen property! Knowing that the dragon will find them soon with his telepathic abilities, the party sends an elemental summoned by Malkior to once again set up the beacon. As it does so, Lariat hides nearby and the others prepare an ambush of spells. As the beacon lights, Domborcojh flies directly toward it, landing with a roar! Ulrik casts a sphere of silence, Malkior lets loose a fireball, and Lariat darts out from her hiding place and once again steals the treasures, this time from right under the dragon's nose! An all-out battle ensues as Domborcojh pursues his stolen property. His relentless attacks knock Lariat unconscious, but meanwhile the others rain down blow after blow on the sapphire dragon prince. Focused as he is on recovering his treasures, the dragon fails to defend himself as well as he otherwise might. Ulrik casts a mighty healing spell that revives Lariat before Domborcojh can take back his items, then a final onslaught of attacks fells the weakened dragon! Moments later, two more dragons appear in the sky - Chelnadatilar and Astanalan have arrived! They are extremely impressed with the way the party subdued Domborcojh, and take him prisoner to be held accountable for his support of Skalnaedyr in the civil war. Chelnadatilar promises that this victory will allow them to consolidate their hold over all of Murghôm. He decrees that the cult will find no safe refuge now in his lands. Additionally, he will use his influence with other good dragons to support any action that the Council of Waterdeep chooses to bring against the cult elsewhere. Chelnadatilar brings everyone back to town, to rest and recover. For their valor against Domborcojh, he grants them each a new or upgraded magic item from his treasury. Additionally, at Lariat's request, he performs a magical ritual that transforms the dwarf fighter into a half-dwarf, half-red-dragon fighter - not quite restoring her to her original red dragonborn form, but as near as possible short of another death. The party will return to Waterdeep in the morning.
