Arthas, Elaryan, Eovan, and Aron drag the body of Sosiel out of the vescavor lair. Arles, Kamilo, Lor, Nor, and Xhotl are all missing, but the party is reluctant to return to the swarms. After resting for a few minutes, they decide to press forward into the Abyss. Aron leads the party through a twisting ravine, in what he believes is the general direction of the Drezen Citadel. After an hour of walking, the heroes round a corner and happen across a goat swashbuckler resting against a boulder. The goat introduces himself as Chalmers, and chides the party or abandoning their friends. He seems to know about their adventures in a surprising amount of detail, and he claims that at least one of their lost companions has survived. He presents the heroes with a decision: they can continue onward, to a desecrated temple a few miles away, or they can double back to the vescavor caves and find their comrades. After a brief discussion, the party decides to return. Chalmer leads them back to the rift within the vescavor lair, and points out a second tunnel several hundred feet below. He explains that Arles and Kamilo leaped into the Styx to escape the vescavor swarms, and were washed into the lower tunnels. the swashbuckler offers to bring any living companions back to Anestral City, in return for any books the party finds in the subterranean complex. Elaryan dimension doors the party to the lower tunnels, then Eovan scouts ahead. The half-elf discovers a large cavern at the end of a twisting passageway. He hears faint mumbling ahead, so he returns to his companions, and the entire group explores the tunnels together. They discover a subterranean island in the middle of a small lake, and a waterfall pouring through a crack in the cavern walls. Arles Jhestander is there, his mind erased by the water of the Styx. He jealously guards the body of Kamilo Dann, who did not survive the trip. Though his memories have been removed, Arles instinctively protects his fallen comrade. As the party is discussing their plan, a huge beast erupts from a separate, larger pool and attacks. The size of a large elephant, this creature's massive body supports six shark heads. It pounces upon Aron, who has lagged behind, killing him in a matter of seconds. A fierce battle ensues, in which the party is cornered, and Elaryan is almost slain. Finally, in desperation, Arthas calls out to Erastil for help. Old Deadeye sends a ghaele to the party's aid... with a few blows of her holy greatsword, and a well-placed flame strike , the heavenly warrior defeats the shark-beast almost single-handedly. Elaryan and arthas knock Arles unconscious, and bring him (along with the bodies of Sosiel and Kamino) back to the twisting passageway. True to his word, Chalmers begins to drag Arles back to town. Meanwhile, the party decides that they need to rest, and set up camp in the narrow confines of the Abyssal tunnels. Everyone who played gains 2,000 XP
