Ctrl-L depends on your lighting setup.  The token you have selected needs to have sight (vision enabled in UDL or "has sight" checked for LDL) and there needs to be a light source illuminating something they can see (either global illumination or a token emitting light on the page near by).

Post screenshots of your page settings for dynamic lighting, and your token settings for lighting on a token you want to be able to see from and we can see about spotting the issue.
