This Sunday, I had a great time playing with and teaching
someone new to SFB. He was easy to instruct and a fast learner. But what I
discovered about roll20 or more precisely, how better to “utilize” Roll20
was the big news for me. As I mentioned above, handling a few jobs at 1 time in an efficient
manner is paramount for any game. With RPGs this is not as pronounced, but a war
game such as SFB it’s critical. I tried to accomplish this in a few different
ways. First: I tried multi monitors by using my TV. This was an improvement.
Second: I used 2 laptops (this was how I played Sunday). This was even better,
but living-room sprawl was a downer. Then it dawned on me! An epiphany zapped me to attention and was quicky followed
by a feeling of foolishness. This definitely
falls into the category of a “No Shit Sherlock” kinda moment. Just 1 laptop but multi logins. I know, I know… perhaps I’m
not as smart I as think I am. Ok, so I log in at the Battle map, then log in
again (new window) at the Impulse Chart and log in again zoomed in tight on the
SSD and Damage Allocation Chart. THIS WORKS GREAT! Fast, efficient and super
effective! What I like best about this is: If I select a tool in 1
window, it stays selected even if I select different tools in different
windows. I know this sounds like I just learn how to tie my shoes and begin
preaching the importance of shoelaces, but wow, Roll20 is geared up for RPGs.
War games are a horse of a different color. Say what you will but, this is
going to be a game changer…. Hehehe Literally! If this can help anyone else out there, thinking about
forcing a square peg into a round hole, perhaps this will provide the chisel.
